Hi, yes this console is able to record an artist's performance then play it back using MIDI. There were a few companies that made player reed organs whose keys moved but I'm not aware of any commercially produced self-playing pipe organs with moving keys. The stop tabs on this organ do move as the MIDI system plays back the performance.
@Trent Hamilton, many mechanical music devices are only programmed to have one volume setting: loud. So the reason the swells move continuously is to help control the level of volume similar to a modern volume dial.
@@andrewlardieri4110 I'm aware of what they do, but I've never seen swell shades that move constantly without any rest. To use your analogy, who sits in front of a volume dial and moves it every second?
In a musical phrase, there is a natural dynamic flow, there are also accented notes- it’s what separates music from just simply a string of notes. Any other instrument, from percussion to the human voice, can do that naturally. On a theatre pipe organ, the shutters were designed to make this possible.
@@zachframe so how does the Carma labs instrument compare to the pizza palace instrument? I’m quite curious, quite different venues. To be fair I’m not extremely familiar with either instrument, but I love listening to recordings of both. P.S. I would LOVE to see you or Jelani take command of either the Kimball or Midmer Losh organ in Atlantic City. Y’all are both extremely talented organists.
This is amazing! The work that must've gone into this is insane
who was the organists that had this arrangement captured??????
All I can say is WOW! One of my favorite Christmas songs done incredibly well. What an instrument!
This reminds me of a place we used to have in Seattle called Pizza & Pipes. Such amazing memories of the music from there! I LOVE this!!
Beautyfull sound.
Really impressive sound and a great arrangement. This must sound incredible in person.
It would be nice if there were pictures of the enclosed ranks. Lots of pictures from the floor, but we see only the unenclosed ranks.
Thank you youtube algorithm. This is just *chef kiss* soo good, amazing
Someone sounds as though they're enjoying themselves hugely. Awesome.
Yes, it's to bad that none of the videos on this channel say what artist performed the music we are hearing.
Did my eyes deceive me, or did I glimpse the ghost of Felix Bernard shimmying along with his music?
Love this organ.
Bravo + Pipes =A+
Fantastic....those swell shutters would drive you mad.......constantly moving
I love this old stuff, I wish this was the norm today,!!!
Wonderful!
I'm excited! Greetings from Germany.
Love, love, love it...
Woooooow that both looks and sounds so cool! Merry Christmas!
Thanks for sharing!
Guess the Velthoen W 165 rep. organ vids are on their way.
Fan frigging tastic
MIDI playback?
Recorded from a real organist.
Is this refit with MIDI to do this? Since I don't see anyone at the console... and older automation systems tended to make the keys move too.

Are those rolls in the cubbies on the right in the piano room?
They are indeed. This organ is hooked up to a refurbished Moeller roll player (if I'm not mistaken).
Has the reverb time in this space been measured?
couldn't be much over a second. not that large a place.
Who is the organist playing this tune?
Jelani Eddington I think is how you spell his name
Who's the organist? Mark Herman??
Sounds more like Jelani Eddington to me, but I could be wrong.
Both are superb organists@@TheAmpico
@@williamcoine3710 That they are.
I missed it at first, but if you listen closely at the start, someone says, "Jelani," so it must be. What a great performance. @@TheAmpico
@@williamcoine3710 Good catch!
why does this remind me of george wright?

@@MegaMobass They are completely different animals, but both excellent at what they do. Thanks!
