People really tend to focus on the graphics/animations on this video. I just want to point out, this is incredibly well written. No amount of pretty graphics can make up for a bad story, and this is so well told I would have listened to it with no graphics at all.

There’s so much more to this than meets the eye. One thing I’m surprised at is the description of the moth man matches that of some of the angels. Albeit a dark one.
@@TheMidnightQuarter it was like around when I was 7 it was near the edge of point pleasant it was dark around 7-8 pm I was with my cousins outside for my sisters birthday and we were just playing around having fun when my second youngest cousin Isaiah said “hey look at that” and we could see something big flying around in the air before disappearing behind trees we it was hard to make it out at first but I remember wings and glowing eyes it was kinda cool but weird and that’s really all I remember from that day never saw it again and I’ve since moved to another place in West Virginia.

So this is very well put together. That said, I think it severely lacks in the kind of skepticism needed to evaluate something like Mothman. In telling the story, it omits pieces of context. In particular, it makes no mention of a few key facts: 1. The original sighting, the one by the two couples, was not an extended one. Their entire assessment of the Mothman, including their judgement of his size, took place in a matter of seconds, in pitch darkness, other than the rather poor illumination of decades old headlights. This also makes the idea they could have identified the carcass of a dog, frankly, ridiculous. 2. The reported wingspan of the creature was, due to this issue of timing, WAY too small. A creature the height of mothman would need wings far, far larger than it is tall to even achieve flight. Wings of such size it makes it far more likely that they overestimated the height of the creature in the darkness, which makes comparing its height to the measurable height of an owl absurd. Especially since owls perch on things, so the height of one would be impossible to determine unless you could see that it isn't on a branch, fence post, large rock or any number of other things that could make an owl look over 2 meters tall. 3. No sighting was reported or recorded before the original one was printed in the papers. Thus, all subsequent reports, including reports of sightings before the couple's, were tainted by the description given in the newspaper. This is also self-selecting-any more accurate sighting of, for example, a large owl, would not have been reported or recorded because it did not match the description and height of the original sighting. Or details might have been altered by the reporting itself 4. This also creates a very real and obvious reason why Mothman stopped being seen when the Silver Bridge collapsed. It was a media driven phenomenon. The massive tragedy and subsequent investigation pushed something as trivial as mothman out of the public consciousness. 5. It is just worth noting that the entire connection to the Silver Bridge was retroactive. It was made up after the bridge had collapsed. There were no sightings there, no tie between the two at all except for vague geography. 6. Also important: Mothman was, from the start, connected to Batman. The name is believed to be a deliberate reference. Why does this matter? I suggest people look up pictures of Ceasar Romero's Joker from the Adam West Batman series, which was airing IN 1966. This might clarify why the connection might have been made to a man in a suit with an unsettling grin. The description of the encounter by a child was, quite frankly, also pretty much a textbook case of sleep paralysis. Mothman was at most few sightings of potentially a larger than average owl, which was contorted by media hype and public panic into a story that has lasted decades. That is a far more interesting story than any of the "sightings" themselves.
Whats uo with the goverment backed radiation experiments going on at a seperate piece of land portioned off by the government inside the TNT property? They were doing sketchy radiation experiments three hours away in Cincinnati as early as 1960. I've heard of other radiation experiments even closer to Mason County than Cincinnati. Anyone have insight on that?
@@TheMidnightQuarter There is a brief line in the Mothman Prophecies film that mentions a department of the government had sectioned a sizable piece of land inside the McClintic Reserve aka TNT area that was off limits. Look for a podcast by Nick Bryant about the Mothman, in the comment section there is a guy who left some interesting theories about government bacled radiation experiments.

Born and raised in Pt Plaesant WV ,nice town but a story that you hardly hear was there was ufo sightings during these times by alot of people

Really enjoyed this, but felt the background music would drown out the voiceover in places that was a little troublesome.
