      I totally get the fact that cars can catch fire.
      Relocating the fuel filter is one thing.... the brass fitting can still pop out of the carburetor. The brass fittings can still pop out of the fuel pump... the fuel pump diaphragm can rupture and fuel can get into the oil sump. The fuel hoses can rupture. The power wire to the coil car rub against the fan shrouding... short out and cause a fire.
      Customers don't want me to fix all of that... they just want the car to run smooth as quickly as possible.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  5 лет назад +3

      Accelerator pump is not spraying fuel. Look down the top of the carb (engine off with choke open) and look for a squirt of fuel from the accelerator pump jet as the throttle is opened. If no spray, check for clogged jet or broken pump diaphragm. If it sprays, make sure it sprays down the bore and not against the venture.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  3 года назад

      Backfire through the carb / intake is usually due to lean fuel mixture, not enough accelerator pump action / fuel, incorrect ignition timing, restricted carburetor passages. A good cleaning & overhaul should get things dandy again.

      @EXOVCDS  6 лет назад

      There are several things that could cause idle issues.... from air (vacuum) leaks, carburetor adjustments to ignition points / timing issues. You'll have to do some checking to find the cause.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  3 года назад

      Are you sure the plug wires are installed correctly? Post a video so I can see where / how the wires are connected. If it has good power when driving, then the wires are probably OK / not mixed up. You can determine which cylinder is causing the roughness at idle, by removing one plug wire from the distributor when the engine is at idle. A wire that does not cause the rpm to drop when the wire is removed, means that that cylinder is not firing... for whatever reason, that you then need to check.

      Make sure that the accelerator pump is squirting fuel as the throttle is pressed. Engine off, look into the carb from the top and move the throttle from closed to wide open. You should see fuel squirting out from the L shaped nozzle (gold colored tube) that's pointing down the center of the carb.

    • @garyburgess7980

    The Bug will go up in flames some day if you don't put a pair of fuel hose clamps on that fuel filter.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  6 лет назад +2

      That's why hoses are checked regularly... as you can see, new hose & filter. Yes, hose clamps help, but not needed with good fitting hose. I've got factory service manuals that show no hose clamps on the hoses (filter or no filter).

    • @billsimpson7588
      @billsimpson7588 6 лет назад

      Thomas EXOVCDS, please listen to John Collins, and Always have hose clamps on any hose carrying a flammable liquid (gasoline), and under pressure of 7psi. Your car will go up in flames, if no clamps. Also, the old-timers like Bob Hoover have said Never place a gas filter leading into the carburetor. The brass ferel is a press fit into the bowl of the carburetor and will pop out after miles of the gas filter bobbing up and down and vibrating in the fuel line --- then another BIG John Collins Beetle fire. Actually, I believe Bob Hoover used to advise "Anyone with no hose clamps, or a filter near the carb... should carry marshmallows for roasting when the big fire happens. It is just a matter of time for you to be eating marshmallows. Best wishes, Bill Simpson amboslacker@softhome.net

    • @billsimpson7588

      Thomas please see my note under John Collins. amboslacker@softhome.net

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the info... I understand the potential risk. Filter or not, the hose will "pulse" with every push that the pump gives and the resistance the needle valve places on the hose / pump when the valve is closed. Clamps or not, the brass pipe will eventually pop free due to those pulses. We no longer work on aircooled vehicles, so I won't have to worry about things anymore. They were fun cars to work on during my apprenticeship.
