- IndyCar Series Champion Alex Palou, the young champion, sits at the table with Dale Earnhardt Jr. to talk about his sudden rise to the pinnacles of motorsport. The colorful Spaniard didn't come from a racing family. It was a local go-kart track near his home village of Sant Antoni de Vilamajor Spain, that sparked his interest in becoming a racecar driver. From there, a path of persistence, raw speed, and opportunity led him to eventually become the 2021 NTT Indycar Series Champion.
Alex Palou came on the scene with success in his rookie IndyCar season with Dale Coyne Racing. But it was his sophomore season that set the stage for his meteoric rise. An opportunity came with Chip Ganassi Racing and he took full advantage of it. Leaning on veteran leadership of teammates Scott Dixon and Jimmie Johnson, the youngster made a name for himself with three victories and the series title.
The 24-year old shares his personality as he and Dale Jr. talk about the dynamic personalities of the international scene that IndyCar presents. Dale Jr. first experienced it in iRacing, and it is why he and Mike were on fire for the open-wheel brand of racing.
Alex is a very impressive young man. Very thoughtful and intelligent.
Alex is so bright, positive & appreciative of his fortune. How refreshing!!
2022 in Indycar is going to be awesome.
Colton herta coming for that title next yr.
@@Bobbarker23455 Or he is driving for Andretti [Sauber] in F1 ...
@@thesteveruss I doubt it, he needs to work in consistency first, he wasn’t top 5 in the championship. He’s fast for sure, but he needs to learn how to manage a race and not wreck himself out trying to win.
Alex is a badass, awesome having him on here.
The champ has a BRIGHT future
He's consistent too. Some people online say he out-dixon Dixon.
@@izzdin6228 Alex is best driver in the 10 since Dario Franchitti. Looks like Dixon found competition that’s not named Josef Newgarden
One thing I love about Dale is even though he is very intelligent about racing and knows a good bit about whoever he interviews most of the time, he will ask them questions like he knows nothing bout them or racing at all.
That may be to get his interviewees to talk, or so that new or casual fans can learn more.
I think its because Jr wants to know different people's perspective. So, even though he does understand the finer points of racing, he tries to approach it with an open-mind still.
He definitely deserved that championship 100%

"On the ovals, we didn't do that great."
Says the 2nd place finisher of 2021 Indianapolis 500.
He's a pretty funny guy ...I'm like wow... this dude made it on talent with little money ...pretty rare in racing today ...great show
Loved watching Alex have a fan boy moment talking about iRacing
With alex palou, colton herta and pato oward. The young talent, man its going to be an amazing next 10 yrs for indycar.
Watched the TV version. Alex Palou has a new fan.
Okay so this is the behind the scenes version. Even better. ☺️
Love the T-shirt that Dale is wearing with Al Unser
Awesome TShirt Dale!!! That one is a real Winner!!
Dale, thanks for the great interview with Alex. It’s been so much fun listening to the Indy car guys, who seem to have so much personality (Joseph Newgarten and his Disney Princess) that we wouldn’t see otherwise. And having Jordan Taylor from IMSA was a “hoot”. I know you’ve had others too (my fav driver is Simon) - keep it up and get more during their off season if possible - TK, Pato, Colton Herta, Scott Dixon, Graham Rahal & his dad - to name a few. Thanks again for awesome interviews!
The future of IndyCar is bright! Can't wait for the full interview.
“You don’t remember, you wrecked him” classic, I love it
This year I watched 3 Indycar races flag to flag. Indy 500, Worldwide Technologies, and the Championship. I started becoming an Indycar fan this year.
super awesome!! I'm a huge Indy car fan I followed the whole season closely and it was an awesome season. Alex is an awesome race car driver and makes a great champion. thank you so much for having him on this is badass!!
☮️❤️🎵🌍🤗🏁
Dale, thank you for this!
Ganassi does it again with Palou. He's in good company with Vasser, Zanardi, Dixon, JPM and Franchitti.
I might add I hope Dale Jr. can interview a current F1 driver or legend like Jackie Stewart in future Podcasts.
Three people having fun and inviting us in along for the ride! This was just great stuff! My respect and love for all and all the effort putting this together!!!
I knew nothing of Alex before the podcast. What a great personality, and (something that doesn't seem to be common for a European) awesome sense of humor! When Alex gifted the Kleenex to Mike in recognition of Bama losing to A&M, I was an instant fan! 😂
This podcast is going to hatch a LOT of new Alex Palou fans.
I’m now a fan of Alex. Just for showing up on Dales show lol he seems like a humble kid. Congrats to him! Scotty McLaughlin is coming though. Eyes out on the kid from Aotearoa 🇳🇿
What a sweetheart.
I want to hear Palou’s opinion on how the nascar championship is decided versus the Indy championship
Indycar does it the rite way in my opinion.
@@Bobbarker23455 for sure, makes no sense to reward a driver for driving well at the end of the year when it “counts”(playoffs), than to reward a driver for driving well the entire year and being consistent
@@EL1TESHARK hey man its opinion. i liked the winston cup format, don't cry about it.
@@Bobbarker23455 im pretty sure NCripTid was agreeing with you
@@Bobbarker23455 i have no problem with the winston format, in fact i would 100% rather see that than the stupid stages and point grabs. it’s so embarrassing to separate the race into 3 stages, and it doesn’t take a genius to know that it’s because viewers don’t care to watch the whole race unless it’s more gamified
I listened to the whole podcast yesterday and it was tough. I say tough because I had to be quite and there were many moments when I wanted to bust out in a yelp or belly laugh. This is definitely in my top 5 podcasts!
Love the iRacing talk.
Great interview Dale...thank you! Congrats Alex!
Dirty Mo aka Jr... great entertaining interview!! asked many questioned where I was like yeah I'd like to know that too ~ from iRacing (just got new Hot Rod sim:) to driver personalities that sounded like some of my track days buddies
Alex is so likable!!!! What a great guest
Great show again crew, thank you very much
Watched the tv interview earlier this evening & very impressed with this young man. Really enjoyed getting to know him . Sandi
What a nice young man, hell of a racer.
If you guys don't include Alex giving Mike tissues in the next clip, could you make a youtube short of that moment? That had me rolling in my seat!
Nice to see you on Team Redline with Max, Max and co! Good luck!
Alex looks like he’s having a ball listening and talking to Dale Jr.
" You wrecked him" Love ya Mike !!
Knowing alex loves iracing is awesome!
Thanks Dale for this amazing interview, i´ve loved it. Hope you take him back one day, maybe when he wins his first indy500 😉
Love these chats. ❤
*Alex mentions Iracing*
Dale JR: Oh....well...we just became best friends
Jr, man you brought back memories talking about the iRacing testing at VIR with just the skippy. I was in the beta team also. I was with them since the begining in the 'First' days when we were still running the N2K3 software. Great times. I remember chatting with ya a few times over teamspeak.
Hello Dale and Mike and Alex great show I think Alex was shocked that Dale was behind the development of the I Racing maybe Dale should let Alex take a few laps in a Xfinity car. Wishing everyone there well Take Care Guys
like your shirt Juoinor!! go AL
New cars in Nascar in 2022, new cars in Formula 1 in 2022, so hopefully we can get a new design concept for Indycar soon also!!
I love hearing these stories, I don't think nobody's story tops Chase Briscoes tho.
Congrats. Great to see good things happen to good people. Oh my, first oval was Texas. Yikes.
Real good interview 💯🤙
Joe Rogan and Dale Jr podcasts is all I need. Thanks
Dude you should sign him up for some Xfinaty road courses! Might be great for the sport! Man if he could drive the Roval he could handle the Ovals!
Jr. Where you getting those cool t-shirts? I keep asking. That Al Unser is very cool..🏁
Many championships to come for Alex... hopefully Grosjean can sneak one in there also!
I would like to see Dale Jr and Alex Palou do car swap.
15:26 Yes Alex, NASCAR is all man. NASCAR reminds me of State of Origin Rugby League. Only Men are allowed
You should get daniel the honey badger on here I believe people would love to hear what he has to to say
Interesting guy. Reminds me of the System of a Down Aerials kid.
Alex!
Frankenstein was the doctor, not the monster.
Jr was so excited to talk iRacing lol
Will Power was only speaking native Australian 🇦🇺😂 Es Normal
Grande ese kiwiboss 🥝🥝🥝🥝 grandeee Alex
8:37 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Whole country is saying "Lets go Brandon" Why not have Brandon on, for a response.
Mike’s hat is sweet
Dale , put Alex in a Bushe car 👍♥️💯
Need Daniel Ricciardo on after driving the 1984 wangler car
One might ask why Alex didn't't go to F1 instead of IndyCar? Easy, he can win in IndyCar but would be relegated to a 2nd or 3rd rate team in F1 just fighting for the scraps. Look at Grosjean's success in IndyCar compared to F1. Nice young guy telling how you need to come thru the ranks to get a seat.
Title of this video will confuse Dyslexic ppl lol
HELLO PALOU
You wrecked him
I did ???????
