Masterchief is not usually afraid, usually. That was until he encountered the flood and for the first time in a long time felt very much alone and afraid of the threat before him. This video covers his thoughts and feelings when he first encountered the Flood.
The information was taken the from the book Halo: The Flood
Chief had massive balls to literally go into high charity to get cortana. That was beyond a suicide mission
Arbiter had balls too. To help combat the flood with chief
@@Unknown1-_U I wish we had more stories like this in games. Relationships where two foes form a team to combat a worst foe and then gaining a brotherhood from it is always a badass story type. Goku and Vegeta are a good example of how it naturally works too and doesn't feel forced.
i like the lore oriented gameplay narration
Adds so much more depth
Holy shit, that was intense
cool i didnt feel the time XD
Real Jesus loves you
@@lolezy8 yeah i love him
I should love him like all the prophets
Can you do another one in the same book of how the flood always put him on the defensive, and how he hated it, i.e. the library and near the end at the maw?
I could do that yeah
@@ThunderBuddy Thanks!
If you pay attention in Chief's body language, after watching the video from the marine, the way he threw the chip and kinda shaked his head and paused for a bit showed how he was disturbed but, he knows he still needs to fight and put the battle face on again.
Edit: you can also observe his breathing became heavy
Oh yh? I never realized this
Just realized that every time he fought the flood, cortana wasn't with him in the suit except the last 2 missions. So he was always alone and slightly hindered by not having cortana there.
And there are no navigation checkpoints because Cortana set them.
I feel if Chief were entirely fearless he wouldn't have much depth.
In all of his training, nothing could have possibly prepared him for a nearly unstoppable parasitic enemy swarm such as The Flood.
A lot of people who only play the games think John is essentially a fearless super soldier who can beat almost anyone.
In reality things like the Flood rightfully scare or creep the fuck out of him, and he dreads the idea of having to ever fight them.
Agreed. Anybody would be rightfully scared as hell by the thought of having to face the flood, its not even just the fact that they are an unstoppable horde that just keeps coming....its the fact that if you die, you end up becoming one of them and getting turned into one of their soldiers. I'm sure that would make somebody like Chief scared as hell of them.
Good to know my 10-years-old self wasn't the only one scared to death during the Flood encounters in Halo CE. Makes me feel a little better to know John was literally running for his life.
Chief might be a genetically enhanced super soldier, but he is still a human being, and the Flood is a true eldritch horror, capable of killing the entire universe given time and effort
@@LighthawkTenchi ain't that the truth but unfortunately there are some fans out there who think he's basically just the typical silent protagonist will basically do anything without any fear
@@LighthawkTenchiyup, he was terrified but his super soldier conditioning helps him hide his fear.
If I'm being honest, in my playthrough I put the scared soldier out of his misery so he wouldn't have to fear anymore. Later on I realised it was super out of character for Chief.
💀
Okay low-key imma just be honest when I first shot him I was like bitch tf fine imma pop your ass back now I have depression
i assure you it was a better fate than what awaited him if you hadnt
@@freakyskull516 thank you brother the weight of my guilt has been lifted 😎
I always tried to see if I could await him out 😂see if he ran out of ammo
He never does
@@freakyskull516you've probably seen it, but originally, if you walk away you'd hear a shot, implying he kills himself. I believe you can find this bit mentioned in the guilty spark cut content
The more I play, think about this level, and read the book's excellent writing, the more I think that the Flood was deliberately f***ing with the Master Chief in this level. Watching the super-soldier from a distance and allowing him to get further into the facility in order to overpower him. That and the door suddenly and conveniently locking itself back, trapping him inside.
And while John-117 is still mostly stoic and silent like he is in the game(s), a seasoned warrior, he isn't a robot without fear. As he immediately felt something was "off" ever since he landed and constantly felt like someone or *something* was burning holes in the back of his head.
The Most Badass thing Chief he did he shallowed his fear down his gut an digested it and stick to survival because he knew it will kill him first before the Foregin Giant bug like Virus
Even the most badass characters in the game won't mess with the Flood.
"Relax! I'd rather not piss this thing [Flood Gravemind] off."
-Master Chief
"You were right to focus your attentions on the Flood."
- Prophet of Truth
"The parasite is not to be trifled with. I hope you know what you're doing."
- Rtas Vaduum, Half-Jaw
"I told you, NOT to go inside. FOR GOOD REASON!"
- Atriox
Master Chief, has no weapons and doesn't want to have this MASSIVE creature turn (more lol) antagonistic at the moment.
Truth, knows how dangerous the parasite truly is and can ruin the Great Journey as their so close to it.
Rtas, has fought the Flood before and know it should not be underestimated. Hoping the Arbiter knows the risks he's taking.
Atriox, has to deal with an overconfident dumbass who just put the entire Banished, the Ark, and possibly our galaxy and *beyond* at risk. 🤣
Yeah I'd be scared too if I had to fight zombies alone without my ultrAIbabe brain girlfriend.
Jokes aside though, it would have been one of the first times without Cortana with him in a while.
Not only does this leave him alone, but I believe it left him at reduced performance when encountering a new, fearsome threat.
This was really good! Though it breaks my heart when Chief met Mendoza infected by the flood, even though he was gone, Chief still wanted to help him.
Got linked to this from 343's article. I love videos like this. Very atmospheric, good job!
Wait a minute, what article?

Great video, it kept my attention the whole way through and then only at the end did I realize how little views it has! deserves way more, keep it up
Thanks for the kind words!
And a lot of people have said that about my videos, algorithm doesn't seem to work in my favour but we persevere regardless!
Nicely done. Great narration. I especially like the scene with the door opening and the body falling on him.
Poor Jenkins had a hard time
“So this is why we’re rated M”
When the voices in my head narrated my gameplays
This needs more views. This was a really put together video!
Great books, I highly recommend them.
This is scary Fr. Jesus loves you
I wish the gore was better in the later games. Especially part 3.
you should have mentioned the "friendly" marines wondering around in the start
is this from the novelization of halo ce?
It is indeed
Question:
Did Master Chief go after Keyes right after taking the Control Room?
Yes, Cortana realised he was heading towards something dangerous, they just didn't know what it was yet
Man, I remember getting The Flood at my library and it absolutely sucked me in
Here from the algorithm. Nice video Thunder.
Even tho the games are goated (there was no halo game after Reach) I’ve always thought the books were leagues better
They both have their charms, and they complimented each other.
Shame they never any more mainline games after Reach (or 4, if you’re so inclined), but HW2 was dope!
@@Arander92 I forgot to mention that Halo Wars and 2 are counted in legit halo games. Solid story👌🏻
damn this narration GOES HARD thanks
Funny I was just rereading this part from Halo: The Flood
The algorithm is going to grab you buddy I got this recommended!
Beautiful
Wait were's the shotgun when ever I play that level I never see the shotgun?
Should just be by the crashed pelican.

Damn whats the songs played during this video? Also nice video.
Yooo this gets me all thinking tho that like "wtf was this foo thinking?!"
Keep ‘em coming

So those two marine bodies chief came across, did the flood leave them unaffected just to lure him?
The flood definately could've swarmed chief in the swamp but they only stalked him, you could say he was lured in because you could see the unknown yellow dots and some flood running away from chief in the first swamp area
The flood could’ve gotten the knowledge from the Marines about the Master Chief and could’ve known that eventually, Chief would’ve gone to look for them because the signal was lost, they probably waited for him to arrive in hopes of infecting Chief and get his knowledge.
The flood lure more prey in by leaving bodies dotted around like breadcrumbs, so that other people go in to follow the trail to try and find out what the hell happened and to see if anyone's survived. It tricks them into thinking there might be survivors who need rescuing. It's the tactics of a predator and we are their prey, taking advantage of our nature as social creatures to care for each other's wellbeing. They even leave a few alive that need rescuing to further draw more in, both humans and covenant. Humans use the same tactic when hunting animals and it's even scarier when we are the animal being hunted in this way.
