My favorite new niche house. And yes, I found the same parallels with GIT as well. And digging the new shirts, especially "Patch Ho." Thanks for featuring Rogue. Mahalo!
The guy who makes these fragrances (Manny Cross) was a contributor to Basenotes for years and a frequent forum haunt until his house took off. He's a super nice guy too. This is a house I've slept on but need not to.
Sebastian, thanks for reviewing 3 wonderful fragrances from Rogue Perfumery. I am familiar with this house. I discovered it last spring when I saw a review of Mousse Illuminee. I ordered a small sample set, and then, the large sample set, because of how good the first 3 samples were. I’ve bought everything from Manny’s Etsy store and have corresponded with him. As you pointed out, Manny is a true artist, who respectfully gives a nod to the past with his art, while displaying his creativity with his creations. Manny clearly explains his intent with each fragrance in his Etsy store, and I think these fragrances live up to his description. I don’t get the metallic smell that your getting from Fougere L’Aube. I’m not sure about the soapiness of Mousse Illuminee that you describe. It smells like the forest coming alive in spring. I agree. It is the sweetest of these fragrances. I recently purchased a bottle of Chypre Siam, my favorite fragrance from this house and received a sample of Bon Monsieur with it. It’s now my second favorite fragrance from Manny. My first thought was Drakkar Noir, which is from the same era of the fragrances he mentions in his description. I need to wear this more to become more familiar with it. One thing that is certain. Manny uses high quality materials, and it’s evident when you sample his artwork. I hope you become more familiar with this house, which offers many great fragrances.
I had a very similar experience with Rogue and Manny. Sampled through the house a year ago and finally got a bottle of Chypre-Siam for Christmas (my favorite from the line). Came with a sample of Bon Monsieur and it blew me away, jumping quickly to my next likely bottle from Manny. Such awesome scents!
Bon Monsieur has been one of my go-to fragrances for a long time now. It is such a classy, classic 80s smelling fougere. I have recently started digging in to Manny’s other fragrances via the discovery set! The quality of his ingredients is so evident. Such a great house.
Evening Sebastian from Ireland,I really enjoy manual cross and Rogue . I recently purchased what seems to be a limited edition called Flora and Fauna it only comes in a 50ml bottle and presented in a cofer style box notes look very exciting and it should arrive by 29 th December.its about 155 US dollar, blind buy and nothing on you tube about it but I am confident it will be a bit special.great vid as always happy new year to ya.
Bon Monsieur is the most interesting to me, and I read the patchouli is really prominent so of course I perked up at that but the ultra-strong lavender note you mention turns me off a little bit. I'll definitely need to sample both Bon Monsieur and Mousse Illuminee as I enjoy oak moss, and Fougere L'Aube sounds least appealing to me despite the candied violet note (which I also like). Love your detailed reviews, thanks Sebastian!
Just got Bon Monsieur and Mousse Illuminee in ! WOW ... what a great house and amazing frags! I cant believe an EDT just put most of my EDP's and Parfums to shame.
My husband & I are big fans of Rogue Perfumery. We own Jasmin Antique, Mousse Illuminee and Bon Monsieur. BYW, he sells 10 piece sample sets on his website and Etsy. Great Fragrances! // ❀✰⌣▼⏝ Congrats on 100k, Sebastian!! ⌣▼⏝✰✿
Funny,i have the 3 bottles in my cart since yesterday..i was waiting on more info on Bon Monsieur. And as if by magic ,here you are Sebastian! I have a bottle of FL and a sample MI .but Bon M. was the mystery. Derviche ,Chypre Siam, Flos Mortis,Tabac vert..too much for me. Congrats on 100k subscribers
I have Bon Monsieur and like it a lot but Targhee Forest also by Rogue which I prefer is similar but has a brighter citrus opening and more pine fir forest. It's also much stronger and lasts longer.
I love Derviche! With either Tabac Vert or Chypre Siam a close second. Unfortunately I haven't tried Mousse Illuminee yet. Not a fan of Fourger L'aube, or Bon Monseur. Wondering if MI is similar, I may not be a fan of these sharp, ultra green fragrances.
I have both Bon Monsieur and Fougere L'Aube full bottles and a roller ball sample of Mousse Illuminee. I'm a Fougere fan and like both of these better than the Mousse Illuminee. Right now I can't pick a winner between the two fougeres - they are both winners. Fougere L'Aube smells to me like if you took the Green Irish Tweed DNA and made it a full proper Fougere (dominant lavender-coumarin accord). And maybe a bit of the ozonic character that is in GIT giving Fougere L'Aube an "early morning dew in the rising sunshine" vibe. So Fougere L'Aube gives me the olfactory image of a Fougere in the early morning dew. Or think of a fern frond with beads of dew on it, shimmering in the golden shafts of light of the early morning ray's of the sun. "L'Aube" means "dawn" so that was evidently the intent. Mr. Cross succeeded. A fern at dawn. Brilliant. I do not get a metallic vibe with Fougere L'Aube, and I'm sensitive - meaning turned off by - to metallic accords in some fougeres. Interestingly, I describe Chanel Platinum Egoiste as being like a cross between GIT and a standard Fougere, and it is VERY metallic to my nose. And that's why Platinum Egoiste is challenging to me. Bon Monsieur reminds me of Gucci Nobile from the late 1980's. A very nice Fougere DNA. Similar, but different, to the Drakkar Noir DNA.
One of my all time favorite is EAU SAUVAGE PARFUM 2011 - 2012 THE FIRST FORMULATION. What in you're opinion comes the closet to that fragrance? I own the 2017 version of eau sauvage parfum and it is a beautiful fragrance also but unfortunately does not have the same richness and warmth of the original version.
I prefer Mousse Illuminee over Fougere L'Aube. My favourites from the house are Jasmin Antique and Champs Lunaires. Congratulations on reaching 100k subscribers 👏👏🎉
Fougere L'Aube to me was quite akin to JF by Floris - definitely pick-up on the forest aspects of Bon Monsieur as well, slightly referencing the fir found in JHL by Aramis.
I have been layering Fougere L'aube with Mousse Illumina. It's actually really pleasant to me. And to my wife, who isn't the biggest fan of fragrances.
It's funny: I own both GIT and Fougere L'Aube, and I don't get any similarity. I end up getting a really smooth, mildly animalic oakmoss fougere with a creamy/candy rose note. Really smooth and unique, while still having a classic vibe.
wow - Mousse Illuminee iawese. It reminds me a little bit of Bracken Man but with a nice sweet touch. Lovely 😃 🤣 Now i need to sample that new fougere as well
Even though i love Rogue Perfumery (especially its chypres), for me, Fougere L'Aube's camphor note is a little off-putting, as is the odd minty note in Mousse-Illuminee. Bon Monsieur is my favorite of Manny Cross's fougeres so far.
That is a very good question. Depends on opinion, but I, as a Fougere fan, would say yes. Although I do say that if someone calls a frag a Fougere and it doesn't have lavender, I ask questions. I often call lavender the "nearly indespensible Fougere note". "Nearly" is the key. The Fougere family have their defining prototype in Houbigant's 1882 Fougere Royale, which had lavender. But fragrances can smell like a Fougere and actually have a different note structure. So is it a Fougere then, or is it merely "like a fougere"? People generally are far too indiscriminate in using the term "fougere", however. Too many will call just about anything a Fougere.
What?!?!? The Art Deco labels are part of the charm. Rogue is creating tributes to classic frags. The bottles/labels are all part of the whole aesthetics and presentation.
Congrats on 100k, Plz do a video dedicated to that accomplishment albeit long overdue and delayed for reasons we know. It would be nice reflecting on your journey, as you have contributed so much to the fragrance community with your channel and knowledge packed videos. Now, can I tempt you after doing that video to do one on EDC from the 80s that you can still purchased today like Roger & Gallet L’Homme and few other masterpieces?

I love fougeres as well. Any fragrance that's heavy on the oak moss already has my heart. I'll have to try these. Thanks Sebastian.
They reminded me when i smelled them. I worked in a stock room and stocking the reps colognes in the back reminded me of the 80s working there.
My favorite new niche house. And yes, I found the same parallels with GIT as well.
And digging the new shirts, especially "Patch Ho." Thanks for featuring Rogue. Mahalo!

I picked up bon monseiur recently and also have fougiere l’aub. Both are beautiful, classic masculine and long lasting. Manny is the best!

I've been told that Bon Monsieur is very similar to Gucci Nobile so just ordered a bottle last night

Couldn’t have clicked like faster on this one Sebastian - I own all three and have been waiting for someone’s thoughts on them besides my own!

I have tryed 3 mousse, siam, and bon. Mousse is best. Although i like musk the others have. Classic smells.
Bon Monsieur reminds me a lot of Duc de Vervins by Houbigant, but I like BM better because it is not a strong. It is more subtle.
They do sell on line from their web page. I bought Mousse Illuminee from their web page and a few samples.

I was looking at Xerjoff Fiero and Roja Scandal, I think I'll buy Bon Monsieur first.
I hope the 30 ml bottle sprayers work better now.
Grey Flannel , Kiton ,The recent launch of Brioni have that candied violet a bit ? along with Fahrenheit
Love them all like Green Irish Tweed

Great timing, just bought the full sample set last night. Looking forward to getting my nose on these!
Oakmoss by regence is the king of all green & herbal 🌿 fragrances I bought it in San Francisco back in 2002 😎
Bon, reminds me of Lacoste. I was instantly whisked back to 1984. ⭐️

Have you tried Gravitas Pour Homme by Naughton & Wilson? I ordered a sample and really enjoyed it. Might be right up your alley I think.
wow - Mousse Illuminee iawese.
It reminds me a little bit of Bracken Man but with a nice sweet touch.
Lovely 😃
🤣 Now i need to sample that new fougere as well
Which do you like better between bon monsieur and mousse illuminee?
Wonderful fragrances from a true artist. I have all 3 and they’re true masterpieces. Thanks for the video
Couldn't agree more!
Mousse illuminee is so good.
Not anymore.. Sadly reformulated!
Now smells different!
Congrats on 100k!!!

Have smelt mousse illuminee next to lapidus pour homme edt?
Yayyyyy! Did I miss your 100 subscriber vid?!
I am new to this. So how much an average collector spends on fragrance/year? Do you decant and sell to others to lower the cost of ownership?
Which is similar or closer to Esencia EDT Loewe , Mousse Illuminee or Bon Monsieur?
Mousse Illuminee is similar. Bon Monsieur is not.
Happy 100 K 👍👍👍
