  • A short walk between the sites of the two roman forts at Carlisle and the location of the bath house. Hadrian’s wall runs north of the River Eden and on it sat Uxelodunum which was the biggest fort on the wall holding a 1000 cavalry troops. In Carlisle was another fort founded in AD72/3 which operated into the 4th century

Thoroughly researched and such professional presentation. A few TV companies could learn much from these videos on how to present history and archaeology! Another captivating walk and talk. Brilliant. Thank you 🙏

I lived in Carlton Gardens until 1975 / 6 and rememberer the headline in the local paper 'Head finds ditch in garden' which was Jack (?) Rawlings, Head of a Special School who found a Roman Ditch in the bottom of his garden in Cromwell Crescent just round the corner from where I lived. (Stanwix Carlisle). Don't know if this helps any but it was nice to see my old stomping ground before I moved away to N'casle to larn te talk proper like.

I as a Carlisle resident wanted the cricket club excavations to be kept visible and retained as an attraction for visitors and residents alike.

It would be nice to see it displayed if only underneath a glass floor but the archaeology is badly fragmented after centuries of stone robbing and there’s no money to build and more importantly continue funding such a museum. The sandstone section of HW further east was reburied after only a few years as several winters took its toil.

Sorry to correct but it's not 'Stanic' its 'Stanwix' pronounced 'Stanicks'
There was also a dig in Dec 22 at the site of the old bath house and the Cumbria park has closed its doors to the public and now being ran by Serco holding asylum seekers
