    Or when they exchange blows back-to-back the look on their faces is "You really want to do this game?"
    They make it looked like they're just having a friendly spar which is funny considering that the martial art itself is pretty deadly.

  • @shobaatannur1249

      it can be considered as a rare takedown maneuver to hit the shin to knowdown the opponent coz the one doing it might also get hurt -- basically your kicking the hardest part of the leg.
      Usually fighter swipe the back of the opponent supporting leg.
      Usually if you fell facing forward, there were higher possibility can get serious injury compare to if you fell backward. If backward, chances are your butt will hurt. But if fell forward, victim whole body could sandwich his own hand between your leg and could cause injury such as broken arm/wrist/finger/elbow

      @Chris A I saw some Muay Thai practionner condemmed silat and how proud he is about his Muay Thai.
      This, I give you some good example/historical prove how effective silat is in real life death-life fight @ warfare:
      1. Sriwijaya, Majapahit, Malacca, Patani, Perak WON many wars againts Siamese for thousands of years. The latest one was in 1822 Siam vs Perak where by Perak WON the war. The huge Siamese troops+muay thai fighter with the elephant were burned to the ground by Perak/ Selangor alliance near the border Kedah/ Perak territory. Read Perak Scholar and British manuscripts.
      2. 1836 Kedah/Patani independent resistance drawed Siamese up to Songkhla, retook Perlus, Satun, Patani and Trang. However, Siamese won the war because of British support-British attacked Kedah from the sea, blocked the food/weapon supplies and supply weapons + canons etc to Siam troops. Otherwise Kedah pendekar should have knocked your King Rama pendekar should have knocked your King Rama castle in Bangkok. Read British Navy Captain Sherrard Osborn 1836 diary about Kedah army-dicipline+skillfull in close combat.
      3. Majapahit@Javanese repelled Monggolian navy in 13 century. Their nose were cut and send back to Monggol. Monggol send many expedition to destroy Majapahit, all ended failed. Do you think Ayuthia@Siamese dared to fight Monggol? Even Rom empire think twice to fight the Monggol. Fact! 3. Spanish vs Sulu , 300 years war. Spanish never conquered the south part- Mindanao @Sulu.
      4. US army vs Sulu Juramantados in 1900. US army never dared to fight toe to toe with Sulu resistance who practiced silat. Read Moro resistance Panglima Hassan uprising+moro resistance how endurance and skillful they were in close combat. Shotted with 32 bullets but almost able to finish his last opponent. Above are the proves of the effectiveness of silat in life-death fight @ warfare. I am not saying silat is the best but I rather say real silat is designed for real fight where no rules applied and it is strictly not appropriate for sport mode like muay thai or box. Have you ever see someone claw their oppenent eyes, throat, testicle, joints in muay thai? In real silat, you will see this kind of thing.
      My humble opinion or conclusion:
      1. There is no better or bad martial art. All of them are good.
      2. The victory is for the one who practice hard + intelligence.

    Is the side valid target area?

    • @SilatFanTV
      @SilatFanTV  5 лет назад +5

      Hey. Sure thing bro. So the target area to obtain points is the chest pad, which as you say goes around the ribs which is also a valid target area.
      One punch equals to one point. Multiple punches in sequence also amounts to one point. This prevents the bout turning into a punching fest.
      A successful kick in the target area is two points and a takedown which can come in the form of catching and sweeping, scissors or floor sweeps are worth three points.
      There are three rounds per match with each round lasting 2mins . Any more questions let me know!

    • @SilatFanTV
      @SilatFanTV  5 лет назад +25

      S Jeff Good question. Possibly due to the stances associated with each sport. In Muay Thai they are very front on and doing a side kick would require a shift in stance and weight which would could be easily read by the opponent. However they use front kicks a lot which are still linear kicks (like side kicks). The silat stance is more side on not exposing much torso and making it easier to throw a side kick. That’s my understanding but I’m sure someone else may have some additional ideas or opinions. Good question.

    • @eddyflare120
      @eddyflare120 5 лет назад +4

      it is used in mma but not as often..fighters who are more proficient while standing on their feet do not want to risk getting takedown so they utilise low kicks more often..not side kicks

    • @SilatFanTV
      @SilatFanTV  5 лет назад +4

      @Limau Purut Sorry to hear about your leg. There needs to be a good understanding with your training partners when it comes to sparring. Thats why sparring those that are training other styles can be risky as levels of understanding are different. Yep you are right these lower kicks tend to be more suited for street scenarios where you need to take out and immobilise an opponent. In a sport silat match low kicks are often used as a distraction to create openings. They can also be used as a takedown but these take on the form of a sweep rather then a kick.

    It's a very momentum heavy and kinetic martial art isn't it?

    • @myownlilbubble
      @myownlilbubble 3 года назад +3

      In a sense yes. Every move should count and aim to exert the most force upon contact before pulling back into the original stance and continue to reserve energy in case of a need to repeat. Every move could be premeditated and pre-empted, given the different styles of silat. So if two opponent were taught in similar style of silat.....the main difference would consist of the difference in force used or how effective your defensive blocking and immediate followup counter attack stance. While other martial arts would lean more towards a defensive teaching, Silat in the olden days were more offensive attack based. So because of the use of dangerous body shots.....like the liver.....alot of emphasis was on self restraint. Hence the pullback. Hope I explain it somewhat. That was what my late grandpa explained it to me anyway.

Or that arts eventually change? Or any of that?

You cant. use elbow or knee. You cant out from the circle. That the basic rule i guess. Thats only for sports, the real arts is more deadline than this. Because we strike vital point' such as eye, neck, groint, guts and joints and Sometimes shin. And off course we use knees and elbow as well

      Must stay within the ring or points are deducted.

      This is the sport version where you score points not kill your opponent. Sport Silat can only do so much so you won't find any breaking bones and joints or joint locks here. You can only punch kick and take down your opposition and even then the area/envelope of your hit is restricted around the torso/armor vest area. You can't hit the head.

      Tournament techniques are different from street fighting techniques. At the training ground everything is learned. That's the reason why it looks different. In tournaments, fighters are not allowed to use street fighting techniques. Tournaments only want to get points, not lives

      know it's late but silat uses a variety of weapons on a larger scale than you might expect from, formerly silat were also used to fight colonial soldiers. And I feel cringe when you compare boxing with silat, silat techniques are more efficient because they focus on weak points where the aim is to paralyze the enemy or kill them quickly and efficiently. Not only that, silat also has punch, blocking, and takedown techniques..
