Thanks from Russia! I am 20 years old and at the age of 17 I had my first epilepsy attack on the road. I woke up in a car with adult men who knew where my house was, since we have a small town and everyone knows each other. I thought I was overheated in the sun, I didn't take it seriously. My relatives saw the attacks, I was prescribed a vimpat, and I will say that suicidal thoughts do not leave me, I think about the meaning of life every day. I wake up with a desire to sleep, and menstruation is extremely painful. This fall I will go to the consultation again. With love from Siberia🤧

This makes me feel so much safer transitioning from Keppra to Lacosamide. I've been on Keppra for a little over a year and while I am seizure free, the biggest side effects that come in waves are depression, mood swings, and drowsiness. I hope Lacosamide is a good pick for me

My son just started Vimpat about 6 weeks ago. He is also taking zonagran and has been on that medicine for 17 years. He never had seizures for about 1.5 decades and suddenly had a status episode. He is doing okay now, but still has staring seizures. They are small, but I am hoping to get him back to what he was. Vimpat is well tolerated by him and way better than Keppra which they used first. Keppra was a nightmare for him.

Our 7yo boy has had absence seizures lasting many minutes, upwards of 15 minutes, since he was 3. These however, only ever occurred when he was sick, so 2-3 a year. Started on Kepra, which didn't stop the seizures but seemed to greatly reduce them. However he developed anger issues, so they put him on Locosamide this year. About 3 months in he started having seizures monthly and without being sick, first time, seizures also presented themselves with visual distortion. They upped his Locosamide to 225mg a day, which gave him two weeks of these visual distortions but no actual seizures.. he has then had two, both lasting over 15 mins, while at this higher dose.. Pretty sure they are being caused by the Lacosamide and want him off it but his Neuro says Vimpat doesn't cause an increase in seizure activity, not what I've seen online where it seems to increase seizure activities in many peoples comments.

  • @tannermcgee3959

Our son is a paradoxical patient and not many seizure meds work, in fact some cause more seizure or have horrific side effects. After starting him on Zonisamide 50mg before bed, it worked but didn't last long. Then we added Vimpat 50 morning and 50 night with Zonisamide and it worked well but eventually the break through seizures happened. Then we increased the evening dose to 75 and that stopped the seizures altogether, unfortunately it greatly affected his sleep. We added Clonidine which was an absolute disaster as that completely stopped his sleeping which led to brain inflammation, hitting head and rage. We had to start a protocol to save his life which included 400mg of Motrin every 8 hours and 2 mg Benedryl every 4 hours for 48 hours. This protocol helped greatly and now he's stabilized with Vimpat at 50 morning and night that control his short seizures about 70%. We will be starting the Ketogenic Diet for the first time so hopefully this will work.

My daughter had her first febrile at 7 months, was short episode with stoffenong of limbs. Then she was started on phenytoin. And at 12 months another febrile seizure which led to frothing on one side of her mouth and continued for more than 10 minutes and was stopped by midozalam. Now phe ytoin was stopped and levipil was started. She had uprolling of her eyes hardly 5 times maybe, when she was playing intensively in a span of 6 months. At one and a half years she jad another febrile att k where she vomitted and went onto staring episode which was stopped by midozalam. Then she was started on oxcarbazepine and strted developing eyelid myoclonia at once and started dropping her head backwards. It subsided when oxcarbazepine was stopped. Them she was given sodium valproate for which she started developi ng absence episodes which worsened woth increasing dose and finally led to status with consiousness between seizures. She had sei, ures 10sec and for a minute she was ok and again seizure and thia continued for almost 2 hours and she was kept on midozalam for 3 days and her seizure frequency decreased. But our docs suggested we go on with prednisolone steroid and that was administered for 4 months with levipil, ethosuximide, sodium valproate and clobazam. During her 4 months of steroids she had seizures and all were febrile. And exactly at 2 years of age her steroid was stopped and her meds continued. After 6 months of being seizure free, sodium valproate was weaned off. And after 1 and half months i.e. after 7 and a half months she had her seizure again and that was febrile too which stopped ok its own. And now for every 15 days mostly, or say mo thly twice or thrice she had febrile seizures and later when she was turning 3 years there were no reason for her seizure, we presume maybe infection triggered. She had almost 5 6 episodes of seizure. Now again at 3y, 3months my doctor suggested we start her with valproate. She has now started having cluater of absences right after sometime of waking up. What do you suggest? When I consulted another neurologist he suggested ot lacosamide and levipil is enough. I am so confused. Her seizure pattern is that...she starts with a straight blank stare and turns her eye towards left side with her trunk stiffening and her whole body stiffens I guess...sonetimes it's only blank stare and flabby body. I coukd even send the reports and send video if I could get consultation with you. Please guide me

I take 200MG of Vimpat a day, 100 in the morning, 100 at night. It makes me very sleepy and gives me weird ass dreams. The name brand is definitely different, the generic makes me feel more sleepy and more anxious. Overall it’s a miracle drug however the side effects are very strong. Makes my pee the darkest yellow, also makes me a bit depressed and feel not that interested in life. The blurred vision is an understatement. I’m just waiting till I can get on something better or have surgery perhaps.

I found Vimpat way better than Keppra! The only thing I don’t like about Vimpat is the bad anxiety and panic attacks! Also the ringing in the ears!! I went from 150mg twice a day to 100mg twice a day. Had a random seizure and went back to 150mg twice a day.
Going to 150mg a day the panics attacks became horrible. My doctor put me back to 100mg in the morning and 150mg at night!! It took me about 3 weeks to get over all those side affects.
Also if able and you can afford it. Get the brand name VIMPAT. DO NOT GET GENERIC.. Overall, I give it a 8/10

I can't provide medical advice online.. Please discuss with your neurologist.. In general, we increase the new medication to a reliable dose then slowly taper down the older one

My son (18) takes 100 mg twice per day. He has autism and struggles to communicate. For this reason, I do not know exactly how it is affecting him as he cannot express these feelings. If someone can tell me precisely how it makes them feel that would help me to understand the medication a bit better. I don’t really like medication‘s in general but I am forced to give him this one to stop seizures. Has anyone had any luck with a ketogenic diet as an alternative?

My 9yo daughter is currently in the hospital because due to COVID and an inability to tolerate her epilepsy medications by mouth.
Because her current medications: Briviact, Rufinamide, Epidiolex, and Clobazam-are not available in IV form, the doctors decided on Lacosamide.
My daughter has thus far has been medication resistant, resulting in the placement of a VNS about a month ago. Previous medication’s include Depakote, valproic acid, Keppra, lorazepam, and clonazepam.
Her seizures are generalized-focal and drop only, 2-15 seconds in length, and with a frequency of roughly every 20 seconds to 2 minutes. So, hundreds per day.
Here is the question: Is it possible that even though all of these other medication combinations failed, that lacosamide is some sort of miracle drug for her? If so, how does it work differently from the others that would cause such a DRAMATIC decrease in her seizure activity.
In the past three days, I have seen only a handful of seizures per day. How is this possible?? Any guidance you can offer is very much appreciated!
I am going to watch the medication resistant video as you suggested and I will also post this comment/question there.
    Thank you!!!!

Fingers crossed she does well on lacosamide. Chances are low in drug resistant epilepsy though. Briviact is available iv but maybe the hospital does not have it

Can I take Lacosamide alone for General Seizures? Or am I running the risk of making seizures worse? I believe you said sodium channel blocking medication can make General Seizures Worse. Is lacosamide one of these medicines? I had a Tonic-Clonic Seizure recently but my doctor said that we don’t know which seizures I have yet and that this medication is a pretty broad spectrum medicine. Whatever that means.

i took lacosamide for 6 months and 2 months in I started developing painful skin nodules that are under the skin layers but above the nerves. dealt with that for 4 more moths that kept getting worse along with new heart issues. went into the EMU and got off of it safely. I was taking 50mg twice daily along with trileptal. it was working to a degree but my skin hurt to much. Nevere heard of anyone else having similar issues with skin nodules.
