Big fan Steve, and so..., I am a HVAC technician my myself 6. years in the field it's been a great honor learning from you and many other great videos out there too ! Keep going you are a true hero.
Hi Steve I applied to all state carrer school for hvac I'm so excited because hvac is my passion I've loved hvac since I was little I used to have a thermostat collection to
Pay particular attention when they teach you how to hook up the vacuum pump. I actually saw a tech sit in his truck running his ac listening to music for six hours waiting for pump to evacuate system. This alone must cost hvac companies untold amounts of wasted hours when system can be evacuated in under twenty minutes when done properly. Would be a good moneymaker charging hvac companies to teach their young techs how to evacuate systems correctly.
Just a word of advice, when testing for voltage, go to a neutral terminal on the board, not to the gas line or chassis. The reason being that you could have a problem with the neutral. Don't worry about the rollouts, as the inducer is the first thing to run.
You checked everything first until you determined it was probably the board. The dude should be grateful for your services, it seemed he was taken. Great learning video Steve and no messing around! Keep them video's coming 👍 👌 👏
I just purchased that KLEIN Voltage Tester, a good tool too for $25 on Ebay, and a quick troubleshooting tool. The lower range has more sensitivity when checking the lower 24 AC Volt Control Circuits, but the sensitivity will detect 2 to 3 inches away so if wires are too close together it can throw you off in your troubleshooting.
Slightly confused on why you would test to see if the pressure switch was closed when the inducer wasn’t even running. I feel I could’ve diagnosed this in about 5 mins.
Great job on pile of York. So far Carrier is working for me, but you educated me high efficiency stuff is problematic. Hopefully last a while with extra surge suppressor. York AC was fine, always replacing variable speed motors, and gave up on combustion chamber rusting out. Current system, check every two months including drip tubes. Thanks for educating people. Glad I don’t have oil, but would if not on a gas line.
Steve that Klein tig tester will pick up voltage from a wire 6 inch away so you need to make sure you hold it away from the other hot wires. You will think wire has power but its the other wires under or around it.
Engineer1: "Listen, we can't keep them simple. If we add a zillion electronic components, the customers will save 10 dollars a year in fuel". Engineer2: "But won't the customer lose 400 a year repairing components?" Engineer1: "Yes but that is how our salaries will be paid. By Selling a zillion electronic components".
Lawyer1: Listen, we need to have all these sensors so that people will not sue us when their homes burn down or die from carbon monoxide poisoning. Circuit board are cheaper than law suits.
Awesome fix! For a while there i thought it was gonna be a total dead duck & heading off into fire the parts cannon at it but with your experience & fault finding skills a win for the customer & you win now with a happy customer who'll likely 100% get you back next time!
Good ole Steve to the rescue. You could hear him naming off the things that should be happening and finds the problem and fixes it. Gonna have to start calling him the furnace whisperer. I enjoyed the video
If that is a universal board he installed sometimes the molex (big white plug) is wired different, the uni board comes with an adapter plug you use depending on unit it's installed in. Don't care how many times I have replaced stuff but I ALWAYS scan the instructions to make shure the manufacturer hasent changed something you aren't aware of, it only takes a minute & can save you lots of headaches. Sounds like the owner changed the board & missed the rule, read, UNDERSTAND, & follow the instructions. His new board is most likely good just miswired, never know though, don't have a board tester. Also the flame sensors have a plating on them that's only bout .0005" thick, cleaning with an abrasive will take it off & make it corrode faster, I always use a coarse rag to clean them. You should always check discharge air temp when setting manifold pressure, improper install sometimes affects air flow or homeowner closes off some rooms grills and effects air flow causing high limit trip thinking furnace is broke when it's not. I have also hate these pleated filters they are so restricted it's ridiculous.
Your real good with oil and boilers but slow as hell with furnaces. Check for 24 volts from c to w no inducer bad board, if rollouts are open blower will run.
I love your channel, as a bit of advice, you can check all low and high voltage devices right at the control module at the pin connectors. A schematic is necessary . Trouble shooting is much faster this way.
Somebody sold him a defective or used board. Thinking that it was the the customer was determined to fix the problem, being an auto technician for most my life Mr Fix it don’t fix shit
Furnace has not ran its mouth lol thats how they all should be. Great video steve. I learned alot this year with gas furnaces diagnosing all kinds of diff parts. Lots of controll boards and inducer motors
A few things fyi 100% failure rate on clear drain pan for York....leads to air switch issues and inducer failure....just sayin'. Leaky drain pan + bypassed door switch is not good. Rusty gas line....check bonding. That could lead to a bad board as well. Pull "R" before you bypass tstat (anticipator on mech switches) (my trick for techs only) use door switch to quickly isolate and test inducer for single stage furnaces with induction style Gas pressure will rise slightly as unit warms or as neighborhood fluctuates. Avoid talking about other techs if possible. Your experience will speak for itself. Thanks for creating the video. It is appreciated!
Being this video a year old I was not going to bring it up but it got the best of me.. the unit didnt work so he called in a hack tech that told him the board was fried so home owner orders one on line put it in an still dont work. Steve comes in checks it out an says let's try that old board so he puts the old one back in an it fires up. But Steve didnt fix anything other then put the old board back in that was taken out because unit didnt work. So what was wrong in the first place .. I hate these electronic units the bam board are $400 cnd an dont last. The vent fans burn up every winter when its 40 below. If you get 10 years out of one of them your doing good. But the gas company tags it out for burn out fire box an has the be replaced. My NYT oil boiler the fire box is 3/8" steel plate. But the junk burner it came with the mfg replaced free of charge 3 years later saying the breckets are no dam good
I've been putting them in since Allied took them over . There Armstrongs with Ducane stickers. Have minimal to no problems with them . Install them properly and your good to go . Great furnaces . I've put hundreds of them in .
I have one in my condo it was there when I bought and it runs fantastic ..when it did have a problem it was a little part .besides that it seems like a very good unit
@@travisbruno1988- Ducane makes a furnace for those who can't afford a better brand. Personally, I don't care for their folded seam heat exchanger and if equipped with a honeywell smart valve, forget about it.

I thought it looked familiar….I have one of those mini ratchets and its been very useful so far. I don’t use it everyday but it comes in handy when I need it. Definitely and time and aggravation saver. Great tool to have in the tool kit. I store mine in a little nylon clip-on pouch with the bits and a few useful 1/4” drive sockets. Hope you like it.

Came across a bad board replaced the board. Still had a issue. Found out the plug need a jumper on the ro1 and ro2 pins

Wouldn’t be a Steven Lav video with out the phone ringing at least once 🤷♂️
An old Bic pen barrel will slip right over those white board standoffs, and let you pop the board right off.
I KNOW I USALLY USE A BIC PEN .... MINE WAS LOST ..I GOT A FEW MORE NOW

Engineers get paid to complicate things lol
I just love home owners. Oh I did not change anything. They always say that. No matter what.
If the inducer isn’t running you can get a pressure switch fault.
DIY tip: use your smartphone to take 2 pics of board, from slightly different angles, before you pull any wires.
Same symptoms as my daughters today, needed a 10u94 pressure switch, this furnace has gone thru 6 of those switches in the last 8 years.

Replace that collector box. Clear ones are known to crack. Classic York
I call it “Shoot from the hip with the parts cannon”
Every furnace breaks and high efficiency furnaces break more often thanks to complexity and old brittle plastic.

Why not use wiring schematic on back of door
Just happened to have a spare board 🤔…those burners are so loud, you’d think the gas pressure was sky high
The spare was the “burnt out” board the HVAC hack told him he needed to replace after 2 minutes of in depth diagnosis.
A Snake can stop a Goodman. Your Friend found 2 Snakes in a Unit a couple of years ago.
I would hope the pressure switches should be open when the inducer motor not on. Lol

it was the homeowner that changed out the board out .he had the old one there on site
