    Man, one of my biggest pet peeves on the river is when someone comes in and fishes on top of me, or tries to steal my fishing spot! This guy, was not my buddy either. Total stranger! Hello??? Can't you see that I'm standing right here?? Haha! Oh well....some people just don't get it. The rest of the trip was great and it was fun casting the dry fly during the giant salmon fly hatch. These are HUGE bugs and the fish really come up and hammer the fly. It's really fun and these bugs bring the big fish to the surface too. Hope you enjoy the float!

    What a knob. Hate people like that. You got a huge river.... if you see someone in a spot, have some respect and move on and come back later when they're not there. What a knob. Those type of people are just senseless. No common sense period.

      @@flyfishhunter If you are within walking distance of a boat launch you are going to get wrecked time and time again. That guy decided to not launch or doesnt have a boat to launch, its sort of a pickle. Especially if we was resetting on a run he already has been fishing.

    I know this area very well and I hate people who low hole but can’t feel too bad considering you have a drift boat and your fishing at the boat launch there are plenty of better boat access areas on this stretch with no one around.

    Agree, epically coming in below you. But being that close to the ramp and an area bank fishermen obviously can get to, I would not be surprised if I were you. Plenty of river left below you that there would be no bank fisherman.

    There are times where there may not be another productive hole for a long ways up and down the river and I could accept someone else fishing a hole with me if they ask if it's okay. With that said, when you're their first they should really ask to share the spot with you having every right to say you'd rather not. In Idaho the locals like to constantly complain about out of staters not respecting space but the last time I was up on Henry's lake it was the out of staters giving me plenty of room and the locals slowly creeping closer and closer to me every time I caught a fish 😂

      There is access to both sides of the river, the other side is the Indian reservation.
      You can fish it but you need another license on top of the three licenses ( salmon and steelhead tag ) you already have.
      Plus a boating permit.

    • @flyfishhunter
      @flyfishhunter  3 года назад +1

      Hey Andrew! "low holing" someone is about the worst thing you can do. You never want to jump down stream of someone in the same run as most of the time you fish your way down a run. If he wanted to fish the same run and not find another one, he should have asked if he could fish behind me as I went through. It's a huge river and I just think it would have been best for him to go find a different run all together. Hope that help and thanks for watching!

    Handled it well! I have encountered people who know they are in the wrong, then I don't budge unless I've been at that spot for a while and have fished it out. When people obviously don't know what the etiquette is, I am sure to be more gentle and explain what their options are and why. I am always trying to protect my client's best interests and set an example for them. Had guys during duck season show up an hour after shooting light, drive their truck down to our spot and throw decoys 50 yards from our spread! That time we returned the favor by driving our truck down to pickup our spread and we were sure to take our sweet time.

    I live on the front range of Colorado and this is the norm here on the very limited trout streams. One reason I prefer to lake fish from a boat instead.
    I think some people truly don't realize this is uncool. I'm looking forward to visiting some far less populated areas this year.

    Nice video. Every year I see more and more people like that guy. Rule of thumb in Montana is you move until you can't see the other fisherman. My biggest pet peeve is when I'm wade fishing and a boat fishes through my hole or they pull over and fish next to me. You have to just tell them straight up go somewhere else. Most people have no clue. There needs to be a river etiquette class before you get a license. Anyway you can't let it ruin your day.

    That guy is standing exactly where I would expect a fish to sit on the end of a swing. Etiquette is to ask the upstream angler if you can jump in below; otherwise fish above or much further down if it's a big run.

      The boat launch was crowded so I took the effort to physically pull my boat up river about 200 yards to give myself some space and to find an open spot to film. I was there for about 5 minutes before this guy walked up from the launch where I was parked. The camera makes it look even further away, but he was really close. So close that I cold not get a full drift without my fly being right in front of him. Yes I was setting up my gear, but if a boat is parked on a piece of water, I'm not going to walk right out in front of them and start fishing it, regardless of what they are doing. That's just being courteous and respectful of other fisherman. This river has miles of walking river access as well.

    I'm primarily a salt water fly guy. Learning fresh. "The rules" may not be as commonly understood as you think. Example: I have heard most people fish upstream with dries and downstream with wets and streamers. So if this dude could tell you were fishing dries normally it would be OK for him to be downstream of you wouldn't it? Now I will agree he needs to give you space for your drift plus plenty and he shouldn't be throwing anywhere near your zone even if he is downstream of you. Does that make any sense?

    • @flyfishhunter
      @flyfishhunter  3 года назад +2

      Ahoy Capt. Mike! Thanks for the comment. Probably kind of hard to tell on the video but I was on a bar with hundreds of yards of fishable water above and below me and he walked right up below me which really prevented me from fishing down stream. He was way too close. Best to ask a fisherman if they are fishing upstream or down and then jump in behind them either way. Or, better yet, give them their spot and hike to the next great run. Hope that helps and tight lines!!

    1: you’re busy playing with camera gear, not fishing.
    2: You’re playing with camera gear, how is anyone supposed to know or first assume that’s ‘your’ spot….(on public water) when your not actively fishing.
    3: you’re literally in a BOAT. You have access to the ENTIRE public water. Wading fishing only get the banks.
    4: Be upfront and honest. Knock off the passive agressive BS. If he’s intruding, let him know thats how you feel, but just bc some guy points to literally 180* of water in front of him (like you did saying “just fishing right here as you point UPSTREAM AND DOWNSTREAM). I’d fish ‘right here’ as well. Since you’re claiming it all
    Otherwise, you’re got a good channel, but don’t be a prima Donna.
