Lalique Pour Homme Lion (1997) - A Masterpiece

  • This fragrance rekindled my appreciation for its perfumer Maurice Roucel!
It is such an interesting creation because it goes through several changes and crosses genres. First it opens up with a blast of citrus, lavender, and rosemary, but in a smooth blend that is not overly classic or old-school smelling. The fragrance gradually turns more powdery and creamy built around sandalwood, and retains a floral aquatic airiness with the use or iris while still rich and woody at its heart. The vanilla separates this fragrance from many others from this era, having a slight oriental feel.
This fragrance takes parts of Green Irish Tweed, Habit Rouge, Platinum Egoiste, and is also reminiscent of Reflection Man by Amouage. Fantastic!

Lalique is a very underrated house.
Lalique pour homme EDP to my nose is in the same family of creed’s BDP with a smooth sandalwood + vanilla dry down.
    Definitely a gem 💎

Also similar to New York Intense by Nicolai. I think BDP smells more high quality than Lalique, but it's also a higher price tag. Great value.

Lalique Pour Homme Lion is my go to. Its absolutely superb for any masculine man.
I typically stick to a primary 3 scents:
Lion, Tom Ford Grey Vertiver and Hermes terre D'Hermes.
Tried many others but these 3 have something special, particularly for the opposite sex it seems!

Glad I brought this one. I actually get a aventus vibe in the drydown. That birch smokey feel and the tart fruit vibe definitely. I think it is more of aventus that git and I've owned both. I don't get much iris in this. I was expecting Dior homme or dhi iris but it's definitely not like that. Very classy for sure. A masterpiece absolutely!!
Initial spray was like.....oh another dated colonge hah. But give it a chance and this thing is awesome and will definitely grow on you. It evolves so much as it dries down. Definitely not dated after 5 minutes in the skin. It has a herbal patchouli, smokey vibe with tart fruit in the background. If you like aventus, this is a more refined and mature version of that with a more classic vibe. It's my second day with this scent so I'm still figuring it out. Definitely 10 out of 10 and for the price it's a no brainier. Awesome review friend!!

OK, Lalique Pour Homme lion is a NEAR-CLONE of Creed Bois du Portugal. It differs just a little in the opening but converges to nearly the same throughout the drydown. I have both of them. Bois du Portugal means Wood of Portugal, so both are woody fougeres basically. Lalique Pour Homme lion is NOWHERE NEAR Creed Green Irish Tweed in scent profile. If anyone wants to say they are both "classy", or "gentlemanly" and so on, then I would agree. But the scent profiles themselves are radically different. But Lalique Pour Homme lion and Creed Bois du Portugal are VERY close in scent profile. And Pour Homme lion is my favorite Lalique, and Bois du Portugal is my favorite Creed.
Lalique PH lion and Chanel Platinum Egoiste are similar in the lavender and maybe sandalwood, both creamy, but otherwise quite different.
The first Spicy Oriental for men was actually classic Old Spice, 1938. Obviously not as opulently creamy vanilla/amber as Guerlain Habit Rouge, which is basically a variation on Shalimar for men. But still a Spicy Oriental. I think Fragrantica even classifies Old Spice as a Spicy Amber frag.

In my top 5 favourite designer fragrances of all time. The edp is only one of 3 fragrances that ever came close to being my signature. The elegance and quality of blending for the price is just phenomenal. Really wish the bottle was a little more ergonomic and with a heavier cap, but I can't complain. A great review! Ps, in air temperature below 30F, the beautiful cedar really pops.

This is an amazing fragrance. Very classic. Reminiscent of my childhood in the 80s and 90s. I got the EDP originally and then ordered a larger EDT version because they've been changing bottles and wanted a vintage. Haven't tried it though. Very classic fougere type. Top heavy on spicy Juniper and Allspice, Lavender and Jasmine. Mid and drydown are light Juniper resin, Lavender, Jasmine and Vanilla bean. Some may say it reminds them of baby diapers but give it a few wears at home.

I just bought myself this one from FragranceX. I think that this smells metallic and synthetic foul scent. I LOVE and have 10 different Guerlain fragrances. Guerlain is smooth well balanced classiness. I WANT to like Lalique… I’m not getting creamy, powdery, or anything pleasant smell. I looked up the batch code on my new bottle today, and it turns out that it is only a year old. Btw, I love creamy, powdery and vanilla scents. This is NOT it.

hey man, i've seen your channel pop up every now and again when i look up reviews. if there's a piece of advice i could give you, it would be to structure your videos better. for example, gentscents or redolescence are very good at structuring their reviews so that you know what they talk about throughout (presentation, notes, performance, versatility, overall impression etc.). i think if you did this too, it would be easier to follow along and make your videos more professional
