Thank you very much. We drive down to Delta to go to church meeting each Sunday but have never gone down to see anything else. We are planning to tomorrow with 88 y/o Grandma and we all enjoyed seeing your video of some of what we will see. Thank you

I saw the movie Doctor Zhivago at the post theater at Fort Greely, Alaska, in the dead of winter more than fifty years ago. After the film ended everybody left the theater in a dead silence as if we were leaving a funeral. Some of us went out the back door near the stage, and we found ourselves crushing the snow under our boots as we walked among the trees. I couldn’t talk. “How did I wind up here?” I thought to myself as I pushed my way through the snow, even though this was the most beautiful place I had ever seen. It was eerie. It was like we were walking into the movie itself. The theater lights brightened the local area, otherwise we were in complete darkness with a million stars and the northern lights overhead. We slowly walked off into the endless cold.

I put Panama #1 on my dream sheet after AIT. They sent me to Fort Greely Alaska instead. Cruel joke. I couldn't find it on a map. Ended up enjoying it because it was like another planet. Great fishing and adventures for those who ventured off post. Dr. Zhivago was an excellent movie.

I lived right across the parking lot. I could see when my friends from delta got to the movies from my back door and my mom would wave to ticket window that it was ok for me to watch rated R movies before I turned 16.😂 plenty of times I would go see the same movie 3 nights in a row. Good times. Painful cold

We lived there in the Spring of 1969 in a little trailer park across the road from what is now the Visitor Information Center. It housed the post office on that end, with a jam packed general store attached to it. It was the same color paint, too. Shortly afterward we moved on post, when housing became available. They used to have a yearly midnight baseball game on the longest day of the year that was a highlight of the summer. Watching the northern Lights was a favorite activity in the winter. An old buffalo made his home there, and could often be seen hanging around next to the road entering the fort. He would turn his head and stare at us through the myriad of No See'ums swarming around him. Fun times to be alive.

The roof at the IGA caved in last year and now the town is in the process of building another grocery store. In order to get groceries locally at the moment, one would have to go to the makeshift shoppette outside of the liquor store in Delta Junction.

I haven't been up there since 1977. The only thing I recognize is the ACS Delta Tower....

The big grayling would bite in the fall after the water cleared on the Tanana river. Bobber, small split shot sinker and a salmon egg for bait. Cold fishing with even some ice flows going by. I enjoyed my time in the Army at Ft. Greely. Some people did not. They never left post and insisted on not seeing the greatness around them.
