Exactly. Fast does not equal joy. I love that knitting takes hours upon hours. Especially if I’m knitting for someone else . My thoughts connect to that person and why they are knitworthy , this brings me joy on top of creating the gorgeous item., and the physical task
Wow, thank you so much for this podcast. So many knitting podcasts while I know not intentional, have become for me ‘pressure’ podcasts -the natural self-imposed comparisons as you have talked about - but over time I feel they are also very exclusive and very inward focused content, for me anyway ….just so nice to have a podcast that is more inclusive and relatable. Having followed your IG, I do love your knits and making and look forward to your future podcasts.
Thank you so much for your heartfelt comment! I so appreciate your feedback and taking the time to share. And what a great connection you made in recognizing how you catch yourself comparing your making output to others when you watch knitting podcasts! We can all fall into that trap. I hope now that you can notice that comparison you can actively shift your relationship with it and focus on what matters to you in your making. ❤ Happy Mindful Making!
Curious, when you are mindful making do you only focus on your making? For example, do you watch a movie or listen to podcasts while making? I took up knitting as a way to stay off my phone and wasting time mindless scrolling. I've enjoyed having the quiet time and focusing on the knitting. Latel,y I've tried to listen to audio books or podcasts (and this RUclips) while knitting. I've found that I either pay attention to the podcast or knit, but not both. Maybe that's because I'm working on the Tutka cardigan and it takes a lot of my concentration.
Most of the time when I am making I am focused on making and not doing anything else like listening to a podcast or books. Mainly because I can interact with my family more readily that way. I do listen to books/podcasts from time to time when I knit… but it is mainly when I am knitting something where I don’t need to reference the pattern. ❤ I’ll share more in a future episode, but hope this is a start!
What are your favorite exercises? How many lbs dumbbells do you use when working out? I love that you bring weightlifting and knitting together. These are two things that helps mind and body....
Greta question! I’ll share more about this in a future episode… my favorite Olympic lift is the Snatch. For dumbbells I fluctuate between 25’s, 30’s, and 35’s most of the time. ❤

What a great connection-fast definitely does not equal joy. I love how you think of the person you are making for while knitting. ❤️
