I remember hearing the lyrics, "You go down just like Holy Mary..." on TikTok one day and going, "HELLO??? 👀" The suggestiveness of the song paired with the Catholic allusions/imagery had me immediately hooked.
I decided to dedicate this song to my OCs again, the same ones I featured in my cover of "Hellfire" (Listen here: • "HELLFIRE" from The Hu... ). However this time, we get to see more of my demon OC's human form. The idea for these OCs first sprouted when I first listened to annapantsu's cover of "Hellfire" during mid-lockdown in 2020. I ended up going down a rabbit hole of animatics, and then that drove me to make a playlist, and then I ended up on picrew.me/ trying to give my OCs an appearance.
Since I'm not the best at drawing, the picrews I made were the only pieces of art I had of my OCs for a long time. Two of my friends ended up making fanart of my OCs for my 19th birthday, which made me SO freaking happy. It wasn't until I started working with mekarer on art for covers that I was able to have fully fledged depictions of my characters. I'm really excited to be sharing my OCs with y'all, and I'm especially glad I got to do it with this cover and "Hellfire."

I could go on and on about them right now, but then this description would be painfully long to read. I've been wanting to rename my OCs for a while, but I have yet to get to that, so for now you can refer to them as the Nun and the Siren.

I love how deep the lyrics can be taken when it comes to a song that, on the surface, is about weed and sex. Really shows the power of clever lyricism, in my opinion.
A lot of people's experiences can also tie into how someone interprets lyrics which is another good thing. Like for example, since I'm transgender and one of my biggest fears is not being accepted romantically, and this song always reads like a comfort of that. That no matter what changes my body goes through, I'll be loved by someone out there.

i write sometimes, i really, really love this song, this cover, all of it! its helped me so much working on my own things that inspiration took hold and i just couldnt help myself.
She pulled another slow draft of air into her lungs, the staler monastery atmosphere sitting about her like some great larger thing, its weight on her shoulders. Magdalena stared, gaze passing silently through shards of light that bled from the window, dust fluttering about as motes fell from the ceiling. A great fire burned through her, an inferno consuming flesh and bone and thought in its screaming tide, licking at the porcelain skin of her face and hands. She sat unmoved, but the feelings were irrepressible, asking her, begging her to act on them. Magdalena looked down, eyes focused on the irregular bumps of cut stone, almost feeling a kinship to one brick that sat at an angle, cement having filled its gap a smidge too deep, leaving it to sit out of line with the rest. A wry smile, eyes fluttering back to her hands as she shook her head. Magdalena pulled her hands together with every touch of effort that she had, pressing them together before her fingers interlaced into a two-handed fist. She brought them up, setting her nose to the knuckle as she took another deep breath.

The longing for her warmth, her smile, her beautifully sculpted eyes that swirled with an enticing danger, the gentler swoops of her figure, the comforting feel of gentle and understanding arms about her waist... She shook her head, trying to clear it of the growing desire that left a mounting warmth in her chest. It was unacceptable, blasphemous, her faith had been solid for decades, why now did she question it?

Whenever I hear this song I picture two teens who live in a god fearing small town. They frequently would sneak out too a nearby city to have fun and really be themselves. Then one gets scared of fully leaving their town for good and they convinces them by professing their love. Which makes it work even more when they’re gay.
I've honestly tried to listen to different reiterations of this song but just could never get into it. I almost didn't give this cover a chance because of it but I'm so happy I did! I really love it sounds so good!
