The Ghost Army story reminded me of the time I was driving on a South Carolina interstate. I was sailing along with a bunch of other vehicles, and we were all going _just a bit_ over the speed limit, when suddenly we came across what we thought was a highway patrolman parked on the side of the road. The next thing you know, all we could see was was a flurry red of break lights. So imagine our shock when we discovered the patrol car was just a very realistic, life-sized cardboard cutout, including a detailed cardboard patrolman inside wearing dark sunglasses. I was unaware the South Carolina Department of Public Safety had a sense of humor, but they punked the heck out of us that day! I have yet to seen another one, but the psychological damage has been done. Whenever I pass that stretch of interstate, my immediate reaction is to slow down. 🤣
