1. Can one use any fabric and any thread? Does it need to be silk thread and silk fabric everytime?
2. Can I use different thick threads or do I need to use flat threads?
I don't do suzhou style embroidery, but I do modern embroidery. I believe that the thread is always silk traditionally, but there's synthetic threads now that have equal shine and enough strength to rival that of silk threads, such as the commonly used polyester thread. Silk is still has the most smoothest lustre, though expensive, and still sold by Japanese companies, so it's still possible to acquire them (I bought some just a few months ago). These videos are made to pass down the techniques that were almost wiped out and forgotten after the fall of the Qing and 1966 Cultural revolution, so I believe the thread you use doesn't matter as much as the techniques.

These videos are in testing and preparation for the formal tutorial. Now we are designing new patterns and preparing to publish teaching materials. Detailed text descriptions, picture displays, video demonstrations, and detailed audio explanations will be added to the videos. Books will be published after sorting, complete with video demonstrations. In the video, the preparations before embroidery, the voice instructions during embroidery, and the final effect pictures of the overall embroidery will be taken in detail.
