- Salix Cricket are a cricket bat manufacturing company renowned for producing some of the highest quality finished cricket bats in the industry. Master batmaker Andrew Kember, Kel and co. manufacture their bats in Maidstone, Kent. Andrew himself has been making cricket bats for almost 40 years.
Here, we see Andrew and Kel crafting an ACID Nitric Bomb profiled cricket bat from the handled, pressed and machined stage. Andrew talks us through the process, and gives some insight into batmaking - in particular the handcrafting and finishing part of the process for the ACID Nitric Bomb range, as well as some of the thoughts behind the ACID brand.
From March until May, Salix are open for bat fittings on Wednesdays between 9am and 5pm (Appointment basis ONLY) AND 9am and 3pm on Saturdays for walk in bat fittings. (First come first serve basis) This is a service where the experts will take you through picking out the perfect bat for you from stock, or determine if you will need a bespoke bat experience. They also have a showroom, which has plenty of soft goods in stock/on display, so if you like what you see and need a bat for the season, I personally do recommend a visit!

Great video. It makes me want to go out and buy another Salix bat. So much respect for what they do there.
Absolutely - I'm hoping these videos of batmakers in the UK toiling away captures the interest of the playing population. Hopefully folks will have a deeper appreciation and take a greater interest in the how and where their bats are made, and the story of the batmaker. 😊 Do keep supporting smaller businesses like this!
Thanks for this video. Would love to see one with the Keeley brothers.
Didn't like this toe. It's round Toe. I love square toe (straight line flat Toe)
That's fair enough to have your preference - is there a reason for your love of the square toe instead of a rounded toe?
@@thecricketbatmakingenthusiast yes sir feels good, + flick shots comes amazing with it.
@davidjohn510 excellent - thanks for sharing. Feel is such an important thing, as is durability. Some people just prefer the look and stability of the square toe when in the stance, while others don't want to risk breakages or the corner digging into the turf when grounding the bat while running.
Could you elaborate on what you mean about flick shots feeling amazing with the square toe? Is it maybe a confidence thing when you look down, and you feel the bat is wide and substantial, so you play the flick with more freedom?
