    Excellent flight plan and video, capturing a slice of the beauty of New Zealand that the NZ World update brings to MSFS. Flying this area after Orbix mesh to a great extent, fixed the rounded off mountain top affects, I found flying along the ridges, vs in the valleys, to be spectacular. Timely and well done Jon.

    This is a fantastic world update, plus a good day as I had a day off work and got Turtle Beach Velocity One Flightstick delivered from Amazon. Great place to test that out with the new update. Some of those airstrips where tricky to get into with my Kodiak. Great video, your one of the best msfs2020 RUclipsrs.

    Quinton Lodge (it's an actual lodge on the Milford Track, with a real airstrip) has always been one of my favourite bush flights. The only sensible way to get there is to start from NZMF (on the ground or not) and follow the Arthur River at around 1000, the way you left :) You get almost zero warning when you get to the strip so you have to be slow and down around 300' AGL when you see it, then you toss the plane into a spitfire approach and try not to slam into the ground or a tree. There were a couple of different mods of the strip which made it way easier but the vanilla now is way more fun and the lodge looks like it should. With the mods I got a BN2 and even a Twotter into there but I had no luck yesterday with a kitfox, the only thing I've managed to land there so far is a helicopter LOL

    I see you are using the latest version of Little Navmap, on there known issues it says when you use
    Active pause in MSFS breaks the connection and does not allow to reconnect even when restarting Little Navmap. This is a MSFS issue. Use the key Esc for normal pause or click the toolbar button for pause to avoid problems. How do you get around that.

    • @jonbeckett

    It's Mostly good for me this update but I have found that around Queenstown (maybe potentially other areas? not found others yet) I experience framerate stuttering. I have noticed it does look nice there so perhaps hammering my PC hardware and turning down my graphical settings didn't make much difference. Hopefully it's something that can be optimised by either Nvidia or ASOBO/MS but like so many things PC gaming related not everyone will have the same experience.

    This is weird... There's a girl I went to school with when I was ages 9-12 (I'm now 50), whom I used to be friends with on Facebook (I'm not now as I'm on a different account). She often comes up as friend suggestion on FB, and I was scrolling thru this morning after watching this - and you came up as 'Someone I may know'. I just figured it was the whole Google algorithm thing, but turns out you're friends with her. Small world, eh? Oh, nice vid as always 👍.

    Quintin Lodge is not an airstrip for Caravans. In real life I think you have to go over Milford Sound and then fly in the valley toward Quintin Lodge , of course with a much smaller aircraft like Cessna 185 or 206. The way you have flown is really dangerous. Not to do in real life. I also think (not sure 100% ) that it is a one way airstrip, opposite with your landing. NZ is stunning but many airports are really dangerous and not made for big aircrafts. Probably even Milford Sound is a one way airport with a mandatory very precise approach from the sea side. There is much traffic in this well known airfield.

    • @gwrallen

      Most approaches are on 11, from the seaside, but it is common if there is a seabreeze to land in the other direction on 29, by making a left pattern with a dumbbell turn. Takeoffs are almost always off 29, even with a tailwind, but can be done into the rising terrain on 11 with a light load.

  • @antonioiozzi291
    @antonioiozzi291 Год назад +1

    Martin's Bay in a Cessna Caravan? I have some doubts..... simmers are quite optimistic, think they can land everywhere but this strip is much narrow and the Caravan have quite wingspan and heavy too, not suite for that soil . I think not much then a Cessna 206 can land there and they dkbt't go yonthe Lodge. Only helivopters can land in front of the Lodge. There is a readon why there are quite a lot of C206 and C185 in NZ tourist company.

    Your vid inspired me to give that area a go in the Kodiak. Loved it. For Quinten Lodge, even coming from Milford Sound is a challenge, but if you are coming from that way, there is a little bowl just above Quinten Lodge to the northwest in sight of the runway. If you come from Milford Sound, as you reach that last corner revealing the runway, the area is directly to the right. You can pull a circle in there and come back down in line with the runway as I did here. Super fun!
