  • Karin Austin, director of the John E. Mack Institute, participated in a panel discussion as part of "Archives of the Impossible: Transnationalism, Transdisciplinarity, Transcendence" to announce and discuss a monumental gift to the Archives of the Impossible from the John E. Mack Institute. The May 11-13, 2023 international conference at Rice University featured speakers and panelists who set out to demystify the paranormal through their research and experiences regarding metaphysics, UFOs and much more.
Jeffrey J. Kripal, the J. Newton Rayzor Professor of Philosophy and Religious Thought at Rice and organizer of the conference, moderated the discussion. Discussants also included Rice's Amanda Focke, director of the Woodson Research Center in Fondren Library, and Anna L. Shparberg, Humanities librarian in the Fondren Library.
Karin Austin is an experiencer who participated in John Mack’s research into the alien encounter phenomenon during the late 1990s. She later evolved into a role as his personal assistant. After John’s passing, she helped the Mack family with the closing of his estate and was directly responsible for preparing John’s home-based archives for storage.
