Not only a GREAT build BUT also superb production- a rarity on DIY youTube these days - steady camera, good edits w/ cut aways - understandable NON-Rambling narration - could be used as a How To Shoot a YT Video - a pleasure to watch
There is a hole in the bottom of the cauldron. there is a large PVC elbow mounted to the base the goes from between the skele's legs, and in up under the cauldron. I attach a long PVC pipe to the elbow that comes from the Fog chiller which, in the video, was hidden behind the corn stalks.
Awesome prop! I'd love to make one! I may like to make a witch version! Thanks so much for sharing! I appreciate your creativity and talents, and kindness for sharing them!
I have seen many of these and have always been underwhelmed, but I know you do a good job so I decided to watch this one and am VERY impressed! it looks amazing as usual! Great Job!
To the last poster, since I cannot reply to you comment, I'll just reply here. The skull was a resin skull from Big Lots. It's got great detail, but is a little heavy. I had to offset the weight of the skull with weights added to the other end of the skull armature inside the pvc. It's true, most of the foam skulls these day are lackluster at best, but I've found that Party City offers a decent one that with a little bit of additional painting, would look pretty good.
Thanks for the tutorial and ideas. I must say, NOT an easy build, but managed to get mine done last night. Good thing I started working on it last month or I would have been scrambling to get it done on time.
That is brilliant, Sir! Kudo's on this build....if I may ask, how much did it cost to make this wonderfully creepy Cauldron Creep? Also, Thanks for posting such great and helpful tutorials.
Hi! I went on Monster Guts and I saw a lot of parts for the wiper motor. Could you list out all the parts we need with the wiper motor so that we can make the stick move and make the skeleton move. I don't know what to buy. I want to make this prop. Are the props water proof? Iive in Florida and it rains alot! Love your props!
DCM-276 is the part number from allelectronics(dot)com. its a 5 RPM GEAR MOTOR, 12VDC. The availability of these has been hit or miss lately, so you may need to try other sources.
Hi, love the prop...AWESOME!. Can you tell me if you remember the part number or which 5 rpm motor you used? I ask becuase I checked the website you mentioned and can't seem to find it. Any info would be great, thanks
(Oops) What size/power fog machine did you use? Is it sitting beneath the shelf in the cauldron? Is the shelf removable so you can access the fog machine?
Very nice job- he is really well done. I am thinking now that I need to add a moter to my guys head. I didnt purely for dollars sake but... I really like yours.
Your version looks great! I haven't built one of these yet, and am curious about the added motion I see here. The entire body seems to rock back and forth. Is that from the stick pushing up on the static arm, due to the rotation? Does that not cause stress on the arm attached to the wiper motor? Looks awesome!
I had the same question.. Though I think I figured it out.. Yes, If you do not align the stiff skeleton arm over the centerpoint of the wiper axle, it will create a situation where as it rotates, it becomes closer, and further away from the Fixed arm of the skeleton. If the stiff arm of the skeleton is rigidly holding the stirring stick, it will push/pull the upper assembly backwards and forwards, depending upon the position of the cauldron arm. I'm kind of wondering how that's allowed for.. there must be oversized pvc pipes on the "hips" of the frame to allow that movement, or something. If you're worried about the weight of the prop causing damage to the motor, you COULD counterweight it, to reduce the stress of moving it.
Sorry guys, for the long delay. Mike is exactly right in that the arm is positioned over the one side of the motor's rotation. The weight of the stick is enough to cause the pvc to sag slightly when not supported by the motor but not so much as to add too much stress the joints. I used 1/2" pvc, which has a fair amount of flex to it. Even now, after 6 seasons, the Creep still works flawlessly, and has even developed an eerie creaking sound as it rocks.
Your Creep looks awesome, I'm building one for my haunt but I can't seem to find the light you talk about around 3;53 where did you get it from? Thanks =)
that would be awesome to make here, but I think my church going neighbors would freak out. So I will have to resort to the large trash bag spider as usual...bummer
Great job all around and from 8 years ago!

Absolutely amazing, the movement is so realistic; when it looks up at you and then back down to the cauldron, great work! You should be very proud. :D
Those rib-lines on your cauldron make it look good, I wouldn't try to change that.

Just a question, do you have a part number for that motor for the head movement?
How did you attach the ribs to the frame? Would hot glue work on a newspaper/duct tape/paper mache rib?
AWESOME!!!

Hey SK. I am trying to find a bag o bones on line so I can build this, but I can not find one that looks right. Any suggestions?
thanks for sharing, really nice.
This looks great, but I really would have liked to have seen the actual build.
I cannot seem to find the 5 rpm motor...
Love it
