As a collision professional, jlr vehicles are built to be replaced after a few years. They are one of the most expensive vehicles for collision repair. Every panel is a sacrificial panel and everything is always on backorder. Ask any collision tech, insurance adjuster, or repair inspector.
Built to be replaced after a few years. Yet I see Land rovers over 20 years old all the time.
@JacksonFairweatherthey were built to last back then. Now it’s kerching strategy for the brand.
@JacksonFairweather 80s and 90s Range Rovers are much better vehicles. The new ones are absolutely trash camouflaged in leather and touchscreens
@JacksonFairweatherthat's because they were built 20+ years ago when they actually had a life expectancy of more than the warranty
@JacksonFairweather stupid comment, go on kid tell us all where you have seen landrover ev's over 20 years old.
EV'S SUCK!!!!
Of course they do, you don't think the air goes over the radiators by itself when they are stationary?
Same for petrol and Diesel cars.

I've owned a 2006 Jaguar XJ8 for 18 years and it has been totally reliable. The Mercedes GLK 350 I owned from new, was unreliable and ruinously expensive to service.
I don’t care about EVs as I'll never own one.
Jags are year and generation specific. We still have an x300 95-97 because they are like tanks. The 4.2 engine is reliable: the early 5.0 liters are not.
I have a 2013 XF oil change very 6k, its still amazing but only worth 2k as a trade in, got a water pump and timing belt at 100k gave it my daughter, one of the best cars I have had. replaced with an E53 Mercedes petrol, as I don't do as many miles now. the Mercedes is quite a bit more expensive to run 😞, looked at electric but its just not practical for me, I cant have a car dictate when I need to charge it, and then take 1.5 hours , if I'm on call I need a full tank 😞
My younger brother had a Land Rover that spent more time at the dealers than on his drive. He got in it one morning and the navigation system asked if they were doing their normal commute to the dealers.
Lmao, that is funny!
Maybe next time it will drive it self there.
Did it have the heated tailgate option so that his hands didn't get cold when he had to push it?
I am surprised Land Rover don't put a breakdown truck in the car accessories list.
Plenty of 20-40 year old LRs still on the road...
On Geoff's channel, he went through a story on a FIVE YEAR OLD Leaf. Disaster.
This is one of the reasons EVs depreciate like a rock. Replacing a battery is such a big deal, it fundamentally makes it uneconomical once it gets over 3 years old.
yes i watched it
Not if you can foist it onto an unsuspecting punter. As was the case here. 9000 pounds for a Nissan leaf that has done nearly 100,000 miles? What a shame nobody gave this customer any realistic advice about real second hand car values and issues.
Just a reminder: the EV "chargers" in your garage or hanging off exterior wall are not chargers
They are PCB's with relays to feed 240v 16A or 32A AC into the vehicle on board AC-DC chargers
Same if your ice car engine packs up.
@glenndavid8725
So an ice engine costs the same as an ev battery on average ?
The late brake show, the Chinese shill doing adverts for fees.....
The EVs have been partly paid for by us the tax payers, the demand for them is incentive based and not real demand, this can be seen in the second hand car prices. Used EVs don't come with incentives/discounts and the real price of an EV is visible to all.
Had an EV salary sacrifice scheme at work, I considered as the BIK was so low. However the insurance premiums were huge, I would only have done it if it was worthwhile purchasing privately at the end of the lease. I've decided to hang on to my fully owned reliable, comfortable Volvo XC which has a comfortable 400 mile + range on diesel, modest insurance. We decided to close the EV scheme as the uptake was restricted to the CEO, and a few others.
Jaguar Land Rover are buying back 2,760 2019 model year I-Pace models in the USA. They are subject to an LG battery fault that could cause fires. No idea how many are being bought back in the UK, who knows, LG could be footing the bill?
It’s almost as if using an electric battery to power a car isn’t a good idea. 😂
Two litre Ingenium diesel engines are best avoided like the plague; reliability disasters.
More oil changes required
Sorry, but I wouldn't have an EV if you gave it to me. The batteries are just too dangerous; any manufacturing defect, any damage at all to any of the thousands of cells, and they're a ticking time bomb. When they ignite, they burn for days, releasing massive clouds of highly toxic smoke, and water won't put them out quickly (if at all.) If you have one, don't put it in your garage or you're risking your home. They've destroyed whole apartment blocks in China & Korea, and it won't be long before insurance companies ban them. Buy at your own peril!
I own a 19 year old Jaguar. It has never failed an MoT, though it did once have a repeater bulb replaced to allow the pass! It is the most reliable car I have owned (17 years) and I will not replace it with a "disposable" modern car.
Couldnt agree more, I have a number of 300k plus cars that regularly come in for service and MOT that they sail through, a 1999 mk4 golf gti, a 2008 VWT5 van, a 2009 Merc E320 and a 2004 Volvo v70 Oh and a VW T2 bay window camper from 1970, what a time to be alive for cars, I daily run an RS6 V10 circa 2008 with 154k miles.
Does Quentin Willson turn the odometers back at the end of British Summer Time?
I own a 24 year old Jag and a 44 year old Landie.
Would not trust the new stuff, hard for me to fix.
A friend of mine who owns a Diesel Ingenium engined XF might disagree about ICE Jaguars being reliable. He has spent a fortune in repairs including a complete engine rebuild due to the timing chain failing at 65,000 miles.
I keep being drawn to the traditional older shape but still new XJ Jags in the free ads, most of the diesels appear to be for sale due to engine failures.
Change the oil more often imo
@@alicelander9058 If someone is willing to pay out big money for repairs, do you think they aren't bothering with the services? Problem is a lot of the manufacturers recommended oil change intervals are too long now.
@@alicelander9058 That would have helped with the chain, not so much with his EGR and DPF issues.
Probably drove it like an idiot
A member of my family worked at Warranty Direct in Reading many years ago and the data they held on car reliability was staggering ( and a very sanitised version was available as the reliability index)
They would certainly support your view of German cars and the very patchy build quality.
However they refused to insure a number of LR products such was their experience of very poor reliability record and massive repair cost.
Thanks
Never had a problem with my Land Rover, lovely car and always felt safe and solid.

@ Me too, had three disco`s up to 2015 but not since, too risky.
My sister had an I-pace from new, 6 1/2yrs old and at the beginning of last October it came up with traction battery fault and would only charge for a range of 70miles. She rang the dealer who told her they couldn't look at until Jan 6th but it would be alright to use not that 70miles range is much good!! In the mean time she ordered a new Audi Q4 electric for delivery this March agreed a trade for the Jag hoping it would be fixed. When the Jag went in for repair they told her there was a fault with the main battery but it would need to order parts but it could be months before they could repair it at no cost as it was still under warranty. Somewhat pissed off she said my brother says you are buying some back that are faulty and 30 minutes later she left without the Jag and money in her bank. I wonder if it's on that pile???
sounds like it could be
My mate here in Oslo's iPace died. Legal action to threaten them has pushed the pull back on them, but the option they gave her was for them to refund the cost of the car if she buys a new one. She doesn't want to do that as it means paying out thousands more for another bad car. As an in-between they've loaned her another iPace. This has now broken down.
Not a good advert
Hi Barry, I have a 21 year old X Type Jaguar... It has been, and still is a very reliable car with very little spent on consumables. Jaguar have built some fantastic cars, some say they rust badly, however it depends on how thorough you are at maintenance. My car is cleaned thoroughly including the underbody and protected. Jaguar's mistake was going electric. Shocking the ipace scrapping when my 21 year old Jag is still going strong.
Thanks for sharing
The iPace has been recalled twice, due to the number bursting into flames. Owners in the US are currently advised not to charge past 80%, and not to park in garages or next to houses. Reliable?
In the computer trade they say that if it is on the shelf, it is already out of date. 12 months use and you will be miles out of date. It's a racket
True
I've been on the shelf for years .....😂

I had an iPace for 3 years. Lease up at Christmas. In 3 years I had 2 recalls, 3 breakdowns. Off the road for 5 months waiting for a new steering rack. Waited 3 months for a suspension part. And this was when it was in production. Would not charge on 150KW chargers. I loved driving it, but could not keep it on the road.
That’s terrible thanks
My neighbour has Jaguar I Pace 22 plate, £7000 insurance, he says he's fine with that, absolutely incredible.
A friend brought a Jag F pace, lost 18 grand in 12 months, F-pace, or a slap in the face? 😮✋
@Craig-wp3pz I will take the slap please, thank you, thank you
My poor old 26 year old ford jaguar s type had an advisory for drop link boots last year.
I've only had it 6 years so too soon to say if it's reliable.
It may make commercial sense to scrap them but it hardly inspires confidence in the second hand market.
That’s right
Surely Jaguar should be praised for having the courage to admit the fault and recall possibly faulty vehicles. Shame other manufacturers are not so honest like Porsche for example. I would never have an EV but have had Jags for years and they have been bullet proof. My F Pace SVR is an amazing car - and bloody fast.
Harry Metcalfe has no trouble with his Jaguar project 7 & 8, he always says how reliable and cheap to service they are and he’s running around in a diesel Range Rover sport now after getting rid of his BMW X5 hybrid so they can’t be that bad.
I've had my Jag S-Type twenty years still like new. I've a Range Rover for the forest and dogs 124K still like new. Both are easy to repair for most things with lots of good companies providing spare parts and service items. Both are great to drive and have presence on the road.
Yes I agree
Jaguar reliability questioned? Didn’t Clarkson return from Sand Job and buy an F-type citing it as the only car he’d used on such a trip where nothing had fallen off or failed?
love the F type, ive had afew
Land Rover more reliable than BMW!?
Barry I love Landies but 😂😂😂😂
I can only tell you of my experiences, if you have found differently then so be it
I have a 194000 mile old Freelander 2, still runs well, and I can refuel it in 10 minutes. We have access to a charger for electric, eight miles away, and at the moment most electrical cars take an hour or two to charge, so rural England is not good for the electric car owner who travels a distance for work. Cars, in 1899, started out with battery power, then the infrastructure could not cope. The whole reason to promote electricity to power the world, is a flawed concept, driven by greed for wealth, by the 1% elite minority. Good to see a video by someone trying to be fair.
Thanks for that
Hi from a big ev hater, love the content.

From what I could find online, there was a recall and buy back of the 2019 ipace, due to battery issues, announced circa August 2024. 3000 units were mentioned. Chances are, this picture is of those recalled. No big deal and certainly not indicative of everything that Jaguar make. Thoroughly enjoyed the time I had with my 2.5L V6 x-type. AWD was superb in the snow.
I love Jags
@ almost pushed the button on a last version XKR a few years back. Went for a Mini JCW instead.
Still intending to grab an XKR, the last of the great grand tourers, before such cars are no longer allowed to be made, even if I have to mothball it.
Of course the x type was good, it was a mondeo, Jaguar thrived under ford ownership but Tata ownership since 2014 has killed any semblance of quality or reliability.
@@steverose825 Sadly just repeating the same tripe that you've heard.
Yes, the chassis and a few other parts might have been Mondeo, but trust me, it was very much a Jag.
Mondeo was fwd. X=type was AWD, so the entire transmission and drive was Jaguar. The list goes on and on. By all accounts, only 19% of the X-type was from Mondeo etc.
Almost all manufacturers take all sorts of components and parts off the shelf. Even Bugatti and I think Lamborghini have standard switchgear and no doubt other standard parts.
But no, the X type was overwhelmingly Jaguar.
@SeanHendy sadly your the one talking crap Sean, the AJ v6 was a slightly changed ford duratec originaly designed by porsche, worked on thousands of them, your right manufacturers all interchange running gear all the time, one of my audis has a lambo engine in it and the wife's a class merc is a Renault Megan underneath, it's fact, live with it!
Since when has any MOT been an indication of reliability?
Since the EV zealots were desperate to fabricate some good news
There were a number of Jaguars flooded at the JLR dealer in Derby (2024) that includes new and customers vehicles. As they were likely to have battery/electrical issues, these are likely to have made their way onto the scrap markets. Please check before you buy.
Could be that, but doubt that an evangelist would tweet that if it was really the case, also I wouldn’t think they would go to the Sam’s scrapyard if they were all different insurers
Keep up the good news Barrie

Just purchasing my second iPace - the first one has been absolutely flawless…so I’m hoping the new is as good. Just let people buy the cars they want to buy
That would be best, I’m with you I thought the ipace was great
All of this is moot. The real pocket emptying will start in April with the new VED regime.
Yep
And private sales will fall off a cliff come April.
JLR are pretty poor in my opinion. A local garage had them queuing up for low mileage cam chain replacements. Ingenuity engines are terrible for reliability. Having been underneath them for a few thread repair jobs they seem pretty flimsy in the suspension department. Constantly waiting for genuine parts to arrive.
YOU CAN HAVE ANY COLOUR JAGUAR SO LONG AS ITS PINK
I had a RR Evoque, beautiful interior, yes a lot of plastic panels, had a few electrical probs that seemed to fix themselves. After four years it developed an engine crank front oil seal leak, an expensive repair so it had to go, got a BMW for three years no probs, got a JCW Mini for 3 years no probs, got a Cupra Formentor now, full of software bugs when new but a lot better recently.

“Anyone important is seen in a Range Rover” fully agree Barrie, but one important correction: “Anyone important is seen in a Range Rover that’s under JLR Warranty”
It’s important to understand the LR Defender 4 SDV6 600nm engine has only 4 main crankshaft bearings (yep missing 3 for a six cylinder), also has oil pump housings that fail causing camshaft mistiming (valve-piston impact). LR Time have covered this in detail, JLR are beautiful but not durable or reliable design, and let’s not mention the later Ingenium engine saga.
My dad still has his Honda NSX 1991 and was tempted by an Audi RS E-Tron GT but eventually came to his senses. He wants a car you can tinker with. All EV’s are planned obsolescence. Never buy milk floats - even if they look nice!

so pretty much, the retail price of an Ipace is around 44,000 pounds? So how can anybody legally describe it as "discounted" at that price?
If I may be so bold Barrie, why do you bother replying to these people, who seem unable to say anything about you without being personally rude or coarse? They only do it to wind you up.
Rise above it and ignore them, don't show anything that they write ("ooo, look mum, fame for me on the internet!") and that will rile them far more than you having a pop back at them!
I think they are sad, but they give me ideas for videos so I’m grateful
Oh dear. I got caught by your click bait title!
I hadn’t heard of many problems specifically to do with the iPace. Turns out, I still haven’t.
Oh well.
Regarding EVs in general, they’re all pretty good, when they’re working as intended. I’ve been present when one tried to incinerate its occupants and the adjacent fast food outlet, and I’ve been diverted around locations where one was on fire twice, over the last few years. Over the same timeframe, I have not seen a single conventional car on fire and would be fairly confident, if I did, the occupants would be able to open the doors and get out. That’s enough to put me off owning one, personally, and to hope none of my friends or family travel in one, or allow it to be parked in their garage.
I don’t know the official statistics, but my own, admittedly not very scientific, experience has not been very conducive towards them.
Not meant to be click bait, all true
Not surprised I used to work at a Jaguar franchise many years ago. They have always been poor will electrics. EVs were always going to be a disaster.
yep
I owned my first XF-S for five years and, aside from routine servicing parts I had to have one climate control pipe replaced. My second XF-S, which I've also owned for five years, has been faultless. Like most cars, look after them and service them properly and they will reward you.

You defend JLR but I've seen other channels (EV sceptic ones) talking about issues with JLR products, particularly engines that go in Evoques. Some of the older engines are indestructible and some newer ones are made of toffee.
I can only relay my experience
Even in the 70's, Jags would burn a pint of oil every 700 miles,& that was considered normal!
True Barrie, what's your experience with 2L diesel ingenium engines and DPF or timing chain, or steering rack issues? @@BarrieCrampton

If you have had two in their lifecycle then they simply cannot be great cars - you'd have had one and would still have it. That's the mark of a great car.
Sorry Barry, I agree with all you have to say about BEVs, but JRA hasn't made a decent vehicle this century. The iPace being the culmination of years of historical unreliability.
A clean MOT says nothing about a cars reliability it merely denotes a vehicle passes the MINIMUM requirement to be legally roadworthy. The iPace is so unreliability JRA bought a shed load back.
JLR just announced massive profits

Hi
I dont think jlr is worse than any other motor manufacturer they all gave issues somewhere. As for ev's they are an option for some people and thats ok, it appears that there are some good quality vehicles ic and ev coming out of china, the resl question is should we be putting dollers into china's koffers. And a return to ev's they are only clean by proxy and can you condone the way battery materials are mined. None of it is a simple yes or no
Great vids keep up the good work
People said the same thing about Japanese cars in the early 1970's. They sold because they were invariably reliable when much of the competition wasn't. Most rusted very quickly but that doesn't affect a new car buyer.
What is your opinion of petrol electric hybrids like Honda HRV and Ford Kuga?
Honda would be a better option than the Ford. However a Toyota hybrid is going to be a better option, judging by how many Prius's are still on the road.
Sorry Barry I’m a bit confused , do they all have a problem. And are likely to be scrapped anyway , meaning the company will buy them back when they go wrong in the future . Obviously I do tend to get a bit befuddled in my old age . Kind regards 👍
@@Kx110x in all honesty I don’t know because when I checked the registrations they were different years, I imagine it’s made worse because some EVs are sat in the showroom for years before they sell you it will go off chassis numbers not registration numbers
Why are they half price brand new
because no one buying them and dealers want them gone as they got nowhere else to store them as they keep building new cars which is daft as people have found out how bad ev cars are and not worth the price
Super low demand, and loads of cars just standing around?
So you buy back any number of cars - because they are faulty or potentially dangerous - and then all you can do is send them to a scrap yard for parts. What does that say about any of your products- if you cannot even economically fix them yourselves for resale? Especially since it is only the battery pack that is at fault.
Bad news for JLR. Bad news for all EVs.
I think Jaguar made a big loss on the iPace. Being made in Austria by Magna Steyr who aren't cheap. They currently make the Mercedes G-Wagon. Also, specialist stuff like the BMW Z4 and in the past the early version of the Aston Martin Rapide and some versions of the BMW 5-series.
Everybody is making a loss on EVs

Such a waste, can't the batteries be fixed? or replaced? They will go a long time with new battery.
They are over 5 years old, so even with a replacement battery might not realise the replacement cost.
Not cost effective. Evs are just throw away appliances.
£10,000 batteries if lucky. There's not a spreadsheet on the planet making the math work out. It truly is a grift. Imagine having to replace the engine of an ICE vehicle every 5-10 years when the spark plugs go bad
The cheapest car is the one you don't own. 🎉
They are better for the environment.? They are more environmentally damaging than a normal car, which will outlast them by many, many, years. Fully recyclable?
You pay over the odds for a disposable car, which is more damaging to the environment over its short life, then cannot be recycled, and is a piece of hazardous waste from thereon.
That any single part of a car, ie the battery, can cost half the cars value is a farce, the write offs will shocking
It's a pity you can't retrofit a nice little V8 to drop into it. Maybe it's something the EV manufacturers should consider in their design for when this stupid EV mandate bites the dust. I'm sure when the UK ends up like Cuba people will be sticking in any old motors to get around in.
