I actually turned down an offer to hang out with Mitchum and have dinner with him. My roommate's dad lived nextdoor to Mitchum just outside Santa Barbara. I refused mostly because I was kinda broke at the time and unemployed.
Don't feel too bad: when I was in high school I refused a request to show a visiting Swedish high school girl around Chicago. 2 years later she became the star of Elvira Madigan.
Loved this movie. Mitchum was pro union, and I could have watched him speak at a union meeting in Santa Barbara, but I slept through it. Another missed opportunity.😢😢😢
Lt. Col. Barney Adams (Robert Mitchum) is assigned to defend Lt. Winston (Keenan Wynn), a fellow American officer who murdered a British sergeant while stationed in India during World War II. Though a psychiatrist suggests hospitalization for the psychopathic Winston, Gen. Kempton (Barry Sullivan) pressures Adams to throw the trial as a means of smoothing over strained relations between American and British forces. Conflicted, Adams must disobey orders if he wants to see justice served. Release date: February 5, 1964 (USA)
Three times this movie completely locked up my 3-year-old desktop Mac computer. Because it was such a good movie I risked returning to it after an involved effort to restart my computer. I was eventually able to finish watching through to the end. This complication has never happened before, so I do not know what all was involved. I am now going to clear all my history and restart my computer again. (I have no in-depth technical expertise.)
"no in-depth technical expertise." like 99% of computer users. A computer may not start up because of disk problem, unable to load the operating system. But a 3-year old computer locking up while in operation is rare. Probably related to the internet connection or YT video server, not the computer itself.
During the war, the wearing of headgear was not as closely regulated as it was in later years. There was much leeway allowed for folks that had more important things to think about...... like getting shot at.
This says Man in the Middle but in 1963 (MCMLXIII). On IMDB, there's no record of this movie under the title or under Mitchums credits. I have never seen a screwup like this!
It is a great film, but Winston Churchill probably didn't like the U.S. Army officer shooting up a wog NCO, even with the love fest in the end with the national ensigns. Britain starved to death millions of Indians back in that theatre era and/ or Indira Gandhi had something to say about it too. Tom Cruise must have studied it for a 'A Few Good Men'.
nice offering thx. Except ya got the title and actors WRONG. It's MAN IN THE MIDDLE with Robert Mitchum, Barry Sullivan, Trevor Howard, France Nuyen. Good flick.
They didn’t have to announce the verdict in the movie . If Winston was not insane he should have been pardoned for his acting ability and value in the production of propaganda films for America’s upcoming wars . Additionally the British Psychiatric officer played by { Trevor Howard }clearly and convincingly stated Winston was nuts . 🤪
A dated movie, featuring an impressive analysis of a Blind discipline. Generals and a vague notion of "honour" of the Army are contradicted and placed in question. At that time, in my view as an European, neither in the UK nor in France -- and definitely not in the Soviet Union -- could such movie reach the Public. Perhaps not a perfect Model of democracy, the US was Indeed more democratic than any of the former Allied Nations.
I started to lose interest about halfway thru. The Winston guy seemed like a great candidate for a hanging. I kept watching. It got pretty good toward the end. Not a bad movie. I understood the title in the end, which was "Man in the Middle". I'll bet the John Birch Society didn't like this movie.
@@JodiHelman If you are the one that posted the movie, did you not watch it before you posted it? Did you not see the opening credits reveal the title to be something different than 'Edge of Eternity?' If so, why would you continue to post it with an incorrect title? If you didn't watch it, maybe you should start checking the opening credits before you post something. As a minimum amount of due diligence, that might be helpful.
First of all, what's this airplane engine noise popping up in the second half of the movie? How do you "uploaders" manage to sneak in audio sound effects that are not part of the original film? So NET Network gets a demerit while the movie itself gets a big thumbs up! Excellent acting, with Keenan Wynn winning the award for best performance of a crazy racist. L-rd knows, I'll bet the Democrats can't recognize themselves yet.
I didn't get the end so was the LT mad, had a breakdown at the end was he found guilty not guilty. Was he hanged not hanged, free what the hell happend anyone
The name of the movie is Man in the Middle and Cornel Wilde wasn't within a thousand miles when it was filmed.
This is the greatest Mitchum performance Ive ever seen and I've never heard of it!

@@TKKrueger-py5jbYeah Bob lived out there by Monticeto where they shot some of Mrs. Robinson, and the bus stop scene.
I liked Mitchum in "Heaven knows Mr. Allison" with Deborah Kerr, "G.I. Joe" with Burgess Meredith, and "Anzio" with Peter Falk.
Another great film with Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peck is
CAPE FEAR
released in 1962 .
"Man in the Middle" 1964. IMDB rated it 6.6 out of 10 stars. I give it a solid 9.
Thanks for clearing that up for me!
Lol. Isn’t 9 Godfather 1 and 2 territory? It’s good, but not that good. A solid 7.2
Law, military and psychology. It does not get better than this!
Excellent movie
Great actors
Both actors were fantastic
Remarkable, questions our philosophy of right & wrong. Thanks.
Definitely Man in the Middle, Robert Mitchum & Keenan Wynn

Turn it off and turn it back on
Well done. Very well done.
This is called: Man In The Middle-1964
This movie has various titles, but "Edge of Eternity" is not one of them.
Very good film, if not the one advertised.
Thanks for sharing it! I always enjoy watching Great Old Movies though. 👍👌👏
And of course, I'm a subscriber!
Thanks Again Though.
War or peace; win or lose; it's MY life............... I like that.
First time for me. I loved him in ""enemy beneath""
The Enemy Below
Number one, Mitchum's cover is crooked and number two, one does not wear a cover indoors unless one is carrying a weapon.
HuH??
@@GeraldMiller-mp8fc Cover, for you civilians, means "hat"
Mitchell IS a Weapon, Sir.

This isn't Edge of Eternity, it's 'Man in the Middle' (1964).
Evidently Keenan Wynn was eventually released from prison, because I saw him as a character in the TV show Dallas in the 1970’s.

'Edge of Eternity' was a totally different film.
It's called "The Winston Affair" 1964.
An interesting movie.
*_Also_* called _The Winston Affair_ .
The wrong film has been uploaded?
Well yes ... The lead descrition has no relationship to actual title or cast.
was it a mistake or clickbait...will remain a mystery lol
but deserves a big thumbs down to the uploader in any case
You Are misleading people, wrong title....it should read Man in the Middle...fix it Silly
This certainly is not Edge of Eternity. This one is even worse.
A lot of the American parts were played by Canadian and Australian actors.
It's too bad

This is mis-labeled!!!! FIX IT!
"Edge of Eternity" starred Cornel Wilde
Always thought Robert Mitchum looked like Cornel Wilde, twins almost(LOL), must be related I mean they're both male, have two legs and arms each.
Thailand?
Fix the name

Being that the US my was segregated during WW2 there would be no mixing of White and Black soldiers in the same unit.
48:41 That's a hilarious "crack" by Mitchum.. 😅🤣😂
58:18 That black MP could paste his ass in the wall.
That ain't Edge of Eternity
Good movie.
That's all I have to say about that.
Wow Keenan Wynn s character seems to be an early version of Proud Boys
@kathyraygoza3299🤣😂🤣
The Proud Boys are not about race, They never were. They have members from all races.

Because he was clearly insane, it is implied that he could not be hanged.
The Lieutenant Colonel threw away a full bird to make sure that the lieutenant would not hang.
