Loved this movie. Mitchum was pro union, and I could have watched him speak at a union meeting in Santa Barbara, but I slept through it. Another missed opportunity.😢😢😢

Framed by a cop for a murder he actually DID commit, even though it wasn't really a murder, but an accidental homicide. Too bad, I was rootin' for him to get away with it all. But . . . will he be convicted? The cuckolded cop who's framing him claims a WITNESS saw him enter the back door of the deceased woman's place, using a key found by cops at his place executing a search warrant -- presumably gotten based on that witness's statement . . . only, the supposed witness is this very cop's own cheating wife? A cheating wife who's pissed off at the critic with whom she was cheating on her cop-husband, who had seduced the man and had taken umbrage at him wanting to be more careful lest they be caught in their affair? If I were him, I'd hire a good lawyer and admit to everything except for the initial accidental homicide -- there being fingerprint evidence that the ex-cop P.I. had been there around the time of the 'murder'. Admit to only having had the bad judgment to give in to the cop's wife's adulterous come-on. It's not as if they've found the ex-cop's corpse at the bottom of the lake, and tied it to him. Maybe that's how this plays out, since we last see him being driven to the police station -- NOT having been convicted of the trial that would presumably be pursued.

Remarkable, questions our philosophy of right & wrong. Thanks.
