- HR Generalist is a common role that many Human Resource professionals get recruited into. Often you may wonder what a HR Generalist does for an organization. In this video I would explain the job role of a Generalist and compare his/her responsibilities with a HR Admin/Assistant.
I am inclined to believe that HR Generalist is more of a job description used as a job title. Often your role of generalist mandates that you do multiple things as a knowledge worker for the HR team. However that doesn't mean your title needs to be HR Generalist. I explain this belief in the video as well. All my explanations are in Hindi. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in comments.

Working hours of HR in top companies as fresher
As fresher, please think about work profile, quality of company and people you will work with. Working hours totally depends and can differ from company to company. I know HRs who work 6 hours a day and at times ones who work 15 hours a day. It depends on work load.

Payroll involves knowing about various components of salary, various tax deductions, computations and dealing with payroll softwares and excel.
Learn excel, search for payroll software and see a demo.

Got it. Megha, recruitment is very transnational, much like sales. Where as a generalist profile requires a lot of different skills in people handling, empathy, operations.
I would recommend that you pick up some non recruitment work in your current company voluntarily and build experience.
Apart from this learn about Payroll, HR policies etc from your other HR friends. Read different HR policies and understand their impact from different HR folks.

HR generalist is good. Recruitment roles would require lot of calling.
Thoda calculations hoga if you are managing salary, but generally that is outsourced. So you don't have to do it yourself.

Is it compulsory to make a post of HR generalist if that company has different posts like Recruiter, Admin, Payroll, Executive HR and HR Manager individually in HR department ?
The HR manager is the closest to the role, I assume they will be HR head as well.

Hi Akansha, Yes you can start as a recruiter. As a recruiter you will see the skill gaps in people you are recruiting first hand. That can give you a perspective as a trainer in future. Try to choose a company where there are other senior HRs from whom you can learn.
