In January 2020 we flew to Chile, bought an old ambulance and started converting it into our dream campervan to travel around South America. in March 2020 Covid hit and we were forced to abandon the trip and van and fly home.
With international travel back on the cards it's time to restart the trip but nothing we do goes to plan and we are forced to abandon the trip once again.

Perseverance always triumphs !
Perseverance and quite a bit of stubbornness too!
Wow our experience has been very similar. Ok out Hiace did not break as much as yours. But we also had to go back home to South Africa. It was the right thing to do. Hope everything turns out ok for you. It did for us. See you on the road somewhere sometime.

What can i say but it's so nice to see you back again.Believe it or not I have actually missed the two of you and your van building adventures.I had a similar experience when a wheel decided to leave my open top Landrover and disappear into the African bush.I was driving down a dirt road in Northern Angols when suddenly the left rear side hit the ground.I turned around only to see the wheel flying up in the air.It landed about 100 Metres away.So there I was me and my trusty rifle in the middle of nowhere.I waited for maybe three hours before another vehicle arrived and after I waved it down he took me to the nearest camp.We went back again with a recovery vehicle and brought my Landrover to the camp.Luckily they had a resident mechanic who was able to reattach my wheel along with its attached half shaft and I left the next morning.All good fun at the top of Angola.
Oh wow! That’s a crazy story. One to tell the grandkids 😂 we ended up later finding that the other axel was bent too so we ended up replacing 2 later on
Oh gosh! What a whirlwind start to your adventures. I hope the trip back home brought the solace you needed. Wishing you the best of luck for when you kick start your trip again.

Hope it works out for you guys... the 2020 story was a real bummer, so it is amazing that you were even able to get back to your van & do as much as you did!

That is such a rough time, I really feel for you! Keep the dream alive, the adventure and the endless road is still out there waiting
I think we are both too stubborn to ever give up on something we have put so much time and effort into. Watch this space!
