    Question Dr Chaffee: I saw your Shorts restocking the fridge and you bought these big chunks of meat. How long can you keep a piece of meat in the fridge like that before it goes bad and does it need to be covered so it doesn't dry out? I'm still buying packs of steaks from the supermarket but it seems way more efficient the way you do it.

    • @jedvon2164
      @jedvon2164 8 дней назад +1

      It IS more efficient, and cheaper. It doesn't really go bad up on racks like that with plenty of air flow in the fridge, but it can get more dry than you like.

You don't need a special carnivore for seniors But I recommend you change gradually. So it's not too stress your system out too much. Start out with a carnival breakfast. Cut out processed foods and sugar the first week. Very gradually reduced carbohydrates. This will help you.

    What struck me about the so called carnivore in the JAMA article is; he is supposed to have sent his cholesterol level so high that it started to come out of his skin (Xanthelasma ). So if cholesterol is the cause of atherosclerosis and heart attacks, then how come he was not reported to have suffered from these? He reported weight loss, increased energy, and improved mental clarity. So why was he admitted to hospital? I cant access the full article so maybe I am missing something. Marshall Elam commented under the article that it is likely caused by a rare genetic disorder rather than hypercholesterolemia

      So sorry you're not feeling well! Broth is good. You could also make a broth jello with gelatin mixed into broth. If you could get down a little egg, you could do an egg drop soup with just egg and broth. Or, you could fast if that's okay for you medically. A few weeks ago I was sick & mixed a little coconut flour w/some meat and broth to make a sort of pancake. Coconut flour isn't carnivore, but still keto & I only did it 1 time, so no harm done. Feel better soon!

      Yes that's totally fine! Just eat the meat that you enjoy, makes you feel the best, and that you can afford. Eggs are perfectly fine as well. Make sure you get enough fat though, because things like chicken are pretty lean. So focus on chicken legs and thighs with the skin on, cooked in butter. Things like that. And yes you can definitely do this with diabetes, it is very helpful for normalizing blood sugar and correcting insulin resistance. You could try to not eat them for a while, then reintroduces the one at a time to see how you feel. If nothing happens then keep eating them. If you notice they affect you then don’t. Some people need carnivore to be healthy. Others can include other food. I eat mostly animal sourced food, but I eat some berry fruit and some vegetables and they don’t affect me

    Is Xylitol gum with stevia allowed?

    • @Kyarrix
      @Kyarrix 6 дней назад +1

      Allowed is not the right question. I would avoid it. We did not evolve to eat quasi artificial sweeteners, processed sweeteners. The other problem with this kind of gum is that when we put something sweet in our mouth it signals our body to secrete insulin. Then when there are no calories forthcoming we end up hungrier.
      It also keeps us wanting that sweet taste, it keeps our body looking for it. If it would help you to chew gum short-term then do that, if it makes the difference in succeeding at carnivore then continue chewing it for the meantime but I would phase it out.
