    No kissing the ground, no lap of honour, no walking around with the kids, firm handshakes from his own team and the opposition.....just a bloke who played football - to the highest level. And United fans of my era always keen to acknowledge the response of the Chelsea fans, first class and a credit to the Chelsea club. If you are under 40 and thinking - 'yea but was he all that?' then perhaps the hoard of press at kick off shows you how big an event this man's retirement was. That kind of thing very rarely happened. A by gone era just at the beginning of my love affair with watching football. His passing was a very sad day for United fans and England fans too. RIP Sir, 'wor Bobbie.'

      Dont forget the balls!. I thought that as well about the gift...a cigarette box! Imagine that now. You'd get crucified for something like that now. It just shows though with the conditions against them as far as the pitches and equipment, just how great thoe players like Sir Bobby where. And get kicked to bits every week and just getting up and getting on with it.

      @postscript67 I actually don't know to be honest. I didn't think so, but I know back then cigarette cases and things like that were more common as gifts. I'll have to find out if Sir Bobby smoked.

    • @postscript67
      @postscript67 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@vxrdrummer I suppose cigarette boxes like that were kept in your house or office to offer cigarettes to visitors, so it was not necessarily an inappropriate gift to a non-smoker.

    • @rensiros
      @rensiros 10 месяцев назад

      Honestamente, nadie podrá igualar ni superar el poderío de Pelé.
      Sin embargo, sí es el mejor Genletman y de "extrema" superación y, junto a Bekenbauer, Cruyff, Best, Zidane y Eusebio, los Top.
      Si no hubiese sucedido la tragedia de 1958, Bobby no tendría que haber cargado con la enorme responsabilidad de conmemorar esa Generación hasta los libros mires de su Carrera profesional y, tal y como destacó él en el Documental conmemoración del 50 Aniversario (febrero 2008), el mundo habría conocido al gran Duncan Edwars (único capaz de haber ensombrecido a Pelé)
      Siento decir que no puedo incluir jugadores como Maradona y Messi por sus "atenciones" de dopping (en el caso del primero) y tratamiento hormonal (como afirmase un ex Presidente del Barcelona para el segundo)
      En el caso de Cristiano Ronaldo, es puro trabajo y cuidado personal. Su mérito está, sin duda, aunque la gran gestión del cuidado bajo la dirección de Sir Alex Ferguson (y su equipo) tuvieron la gran culpa y, luego (tal y como sucede en el 99% de los casos en la vida), se aprovecha otra entidad de los mayores beneficios (como marca la historia del Real Madrid: también con los casos de un Ronaldo recuperado para el fútbol, Figo, Beckham (éste para abrirle las Puertas del mk) o el propio Zidane)
      Los Genios goleadores son muchos y variados: Romario, Batistuta, Van Basten, Roberto Baggio, Rossi, ... y por supuesto Cr7
      Y, con Messi, aunque le vuelvan a hacer otro regalo con el próximo Balón de oro, quedó retratado cuando Xavi e Iniesta se retiraron del Barcelona, además de las palabras de Maradona tras recibir el MVP de la final del Mundial 2014 ó durante su valoración sobre cómo es, describiéndolo con "falta de personalidad"
      Sur Bobby Charlton es y será el jugador inglés más completo y con mayor grandeza del fútbol británico y, después, Scholes 😉

    Two things here, Press photographers surrounding the man so no one could see him, that was a little piece of history ruined by a disorganised rabble, thankfully it wouldn't happen now.
    Second was that pillock Docherty walking in between the players trying to be everyone's mate and shake hands with anyone he could, like Atkinson later on, they believed they were bigger than the game.
