    I'm 67 and don't work any longer and don't have much money. But the PCX has been a dream of my for a while because I'm tired of the bus in Houston. I could do without the ABS because I think the point of a scooter is to save money every which way you can. Good review.

      Easy to drive. 115 MPG. The only thing I would worry about is cars not seeing you. I wear a fluorescent green shirt and a white helmet when driving around here. I will be good in Houston traffic. Zip right through. Good luck!

    I have the same model with 33,000km on the clock. The stop start feature will not work when the battery gets low - probably a battery saving measure. As soon as you place a new battery in, it works again. One other thing about this bike I like is the high beam - so few scooters have a high beam worth having. All round great bike with no problems to date other than realizing that I had to replace coolant which very nearly cost me an expensive fix but just got it in time when the temp warning light came on. Thanks for the video.

    Have been researching about this scooter and the Yamaha Nmax, however the Nmax is always sold out! The PCX is pricier but Honda always is. It's nice to watch this long term review. I can't wait to buy a PCX. If it could last that long it's worth it.

      The PCX is still a great bike. It hasn't seen much of the way of upgrades (ABS) in 5 years. I recently sold this PCX and replaced it with a Yamaha Aerox. I like it just as much as the PCX and it is significantly less expensive. ..and I get to drive a new bike.

  • @Endeavor545

    Nice review! I would bet real cash that the battery does not effect the feature of the stop/ idle function. I think it's the switch on the bars or maybe the switch on the kickstand . More probable is the switch on the kickstand. Ohm it out with a ohm meter and or check that the switch is in the proper positioning. Good luck from North Carolina!

    • @peteandpuy
      @peteandpuy  6 лет назад +1

      The mechanic at Honda switched in a new battery and the switch worked perfectly. Since the battery was only about a year old I kept the old one. When I switched them out again, putting the old one back...switch doesn't work. Battery is the issue. I know, weird.

    • @Endeavor545
      @Endeavor545 6 лет назад

      Pete Bowen I could see it making a difference maybe if the original battery had a low voltage, but, if they have the same voltage, that would blow my mind. I would want to know the exact reason, but, I'm a mechanic and I'm OCD like that.
      I'm looking at the Kymco like 200i and the PCX 150. I like the looks of the PCX better though...

    • @albertbuchheit425
      @albertbuchheit425 6 лет назад

      Hi Pete, thanks for the video. I am a retired master mechanic. Let me explain why a new battery solved your issue. Batteries have volts and amps. The computer on your scooter prevents the stop/idle from working because the amp output is too low. You still have 12 volts but since your battery went completely dead the amp output was affected. The amps are still sufficient for the other needs of your scooter. The computer was programmed this way to prevent being stranded due to many frequent stops under some circumstances. Nothing magical going on here.

    You said a new battery would cure the Idle stop problem. I doubt that alone would have any effect.
    First off, I readily admit I don't know what features are involved in the idle shutdown circuit or what happens when it reactivates. But I suspect the answer to your problem is something that can be reset easily by your technician. I'm thinking of resetting the oil change warning light on an automobile when changing the oil. A simple button press resets it.
    I think reactivating it with your good, used battery should work just as well as any other, including a new one. The system only senses a certain range of voltage and current coming through the terminals. That is why age and anything else unique to a battery is immaterial as long as it has sufficient power to operate the scooter under all conditions. And the system should not be able to sense any difference between your old battery, a new one, another old one , or anything else.
    Demonstration: Consider someone places a huge sheet of paper over the wires attached to the battery, such that it blocks the view of anyone on either side of the paper from seeing what happens on the other side - and does nothing else.
    Swap your old battery with another battery. What's on the other side of the paper (all the loads) won't be able to sense any difference between a second good, used battery and a new one. Neither will the observer on the load side of the paper.

    • @peteandpuy
      @peteandpuy  6 лет назад

      The Honda technician allowed me to use a new battery for a couple of days. Stop idle worked flawlessly. Since I don't use the stop idle I kept the old battery (save $45). It's now a couple of years later and the battery still works fine, just no stop idle. I don't know why this is so weird. No button for a reset. Since the tech knew about putting in a new battery, I have to assume that's the way it is. Don't forget to turn off your bike and drain the battery to empty I guess is the bottom line.

    Garry- These mesh seats don't even have a brand over here. They're under $10 and come in various sizes. If the bike is in the hot sun you don't even notice the seat is hot. If it's raining you just climb on and maybe your bum gets slightly wet. They're perfect. I think I got XL. Try Amazon www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Cover-Elastic-Breathable-Saddle/dp/B00TGSK1OW

      The Honda Click, the most popular automatic scooter in Thailand. It's been a 125 but they've just come out with the 150 version which I'd love to get a hold of. It's going to be faster than the PCX because it's the same engine on a lighter bike. I prefer driving the PCX over the Click. More stable, better for two people but the Click is very popular and holds it's value.

      Different class of bikes. Click is about $1600. PCX is $2650 (Thailand prices). Click is the most popular bike here. Highly maneuverable, quick, but not as stable as the PCX. More of a little sports car compared to the sedan like PCX. PCX is great for two people or heavier riders. PCX is slightly faster than Click. They're both great transportation. PCX gets over 115 MPG! Hope that helps.

    You are VERY wrong about not needing to adjust your valves. I would do it every 5,000mi at least. Yes you do have to take off the fairing and pull the rocker cover, that is pretty easy. As the valve seats wear, the rocker clearance gets less and less. If it contacts, you will lose power and for sure burn valves/valve seats. I've seen it happen.

    I believe that Honda has dropped it's standard in a lot of their equipment,... A sub $800 Chinese Scooter has ABS on the front ;)

    What type of bike is that? The one your wife drives?

      That's the very popular Honda Click. 125CC quick little bugger. The biggest seller with automatic transmission. There is the Honda Wave below the Click - chain drive 3 speed that's about $300 cheaper than the Click. Wave is more popular with the Thais only because it's cheaper. Click sells for about $1750. The PCX is up to $3000 now. Still a lot cheaper than other places in the world because they make them here.

      There is a new video up with me talking about my new 2020 Hybrid PCX. Unfortunately, it only comes in dark blue. I usually wear a neon green t-shirt and a white helmet. Anything so I'm more visible.

      Understandable. Scooting around is fun. I think if I was back in the West, I'd be driving a shitty old car and a new PCX. Local use only. Tell the wife, local use only. The PCX gets 118mpg. You're saving money for "local use" transportation.
