Metabolism is screwed up because it's trying to cope with over abundance.
Excellent point of view that we would not know having grown up in this culture of no hunger.

Nice analogy, but with one caveat.
There is a state where a slow metabolism is not ok.
Most of the people I work with are eating less than they should and still can't lose kgs due to eating SAD.
Once we increase calories and slowly transition them to keto, they already start losing kgs.
So if you have slow metabolism but no access to energy, this is an issue.

Wow. This really helped explain l why I used to sweat so easily when I was 50lbs overweight. The last 30lbs was after adhering to a strict keto diet and not long after that, I started to, and still get cold in temps that I used to sweat in. I used to sweat profusely just walking in temps above 16 Celsius and was pretty sure I had cranial facial hyperspiration.
I thought it was all due to loss of body insulation, but how the body has to go into overdrive to handle all of the carb energy I was feeding it makes total sense.
I've learned so much no-BS information from you. Thanks for being so up front and transparent.

My heart rate has always been on the low side because I have been active all my life (now 64) but have recently become aware that my resting heart has felt even slower and was wondering if I should be concerned about it because I don’t think I have ever perceived it to be that slow. I think a piece of the puzzle is missing. It seems like if you are still eating, your body will use that little energy more efficiently and not use as much of your stored fat. Unless you are doing an extended fast, I think you will lose more fat by varying your energy intake so that your body doesn't know what to adjust to. This is why reverse dieting helps many people lose more fat than just cutting back on the amount they eat.

I love your videos. I was over 225 pounds (stopped weighing) 3 years ago. Off all meds.
Now 165 pounds. (5 ft tall 65 year old woman) I've been on clean keto--thank YOU, Dr. Cywes, Dr. Berry, Fung, Ekberg, Berg.
My BP went from 180/90's to 114/70. AIc is better-- 5.2 rather than 10.?, but that is after 5 day fasts before bloodwork, but eating OMAD, I am still in glucose burning (until about 36 hours--even eating keto!!) Just wondering why it takes 3-4 days to be solidly fat burning. My glucose is actually UP. Could you do a video on why that may happen? Is that just glucose intolerance--still? Glucose is 120 to 135 BEFORE OMAD dinner. Also 120 or so fasting glucose. It used to be 130--my doc is no longer pushing metformin. On the upside, it doesn't go up much more than that anymore especially if it eat carnivore, and I feel great. It only drops below 100 on the second or third day of a fast.
I have lots of stress--money, unemployed grown kids, student loans, divorce, etc, and recently moved from a mold infested house. I sleep 4 hours. pee. Sleep 3 hours. From youtube, I'm sure my adrenals are a wreck. I'm going to give your office a call, but I'm not sure if I can afford you if medicare doesn't pay.
I'D LOVE YOU TO DO A VIDEO ON WHY GLUCOSE CAN GO UP WHEN FASTING? and anything to do about it??

I have lazy thyroid now, which means I can get back to how muscular I was and not be overheated or have to eat as much. I think lazy thyroid does slow you down too much, and building enough muscle can get you to normal pace. Then there are benefits of the muscle. Seems lazy thyroid is beneficial. This makes a LOT of sense nevertheless I am soooo confused... I weigh 123kg, am 157cm in height, am 63 years of age and I'd like to lose at least 50kg. Researchers are saying we need to eat at least 1gm of protein per kg of body weight, which in my case amounts to AT LEAST 123g of protein - which is a huge amount of food (approx 20g of protein in 100g of raw beef) to have to eat every day so that I minimise muscle loss. Common sense is telling me that if I lose weight I'll lose muscle mass but I still don't know which is more important - not eat as much to get the weight off so that I take the burden off my body sooner OR eat the huge amounts of protein in order to minimise muscle loss and lose weight slower...

What would you say to someone who gained weight on 500 calories per day?

He would probably say they are lying about the 500 calories.

It was probably a mixture of fats and carbs and possibly low protein? Eating every few hours or at one sitting and long fasting period? If you want to lose weight carbs must be low to burn body fat. It needs consistency to get rid of sugar in your body stored and begin burning body fat. Id encourage to search "dr sten eckberg mathematics of weight poss" its the best video to explain things best. Your body will respond to the conditions you give it and you want a low insulin state.

@@ellek7233 Thank you for your thoughts. It’s strongly perceived/believed that going that low on calories wreaked their metabolism. Dr. Cywes seems to think of that possibility as BS. It wasn’t until they increased calories that the weight started coming off. Some call it needing to “reverse diet”. Is this what he is seeing and calling out as BS?

@Torchlight31 Thank you for the well thought out response. Can I break down what you have said to this bottom line? And that is (Yes, the metabolism was wreaked and the only fix at that point is to eat more to get the body out of starvation mode.)?

@@NewSorpigal1 Thanks again! I do think this is what the Dr. Is addressing. There are some very prominent influencers teaching sometimes you have to eat more to lose weight. They feel very strongly about this. And I also get frustrated and confused with this since I’m nearly always in a battle with my weight. Thanks very much for your time.
