Evanston Renovation 18: How to Kitbash a Turntable for Your Model Railroad

- In this video, I show you how I'm kitbashing a turntable for the roundhouse at Evanston on my N-scale model railroad. I want to create a turntable that resembles the prototype. The turntable on my layout will be non-functional, because it is merely part of a background scene. I want to show you how I'm kitbashing this turntable, because some day, you may want to kitbash such a turntable for your layout. As always, it's a pleasure to share the hobby of model railroading with you.

Roy, I really admire the way you compressed the entire roundhouse and surrounding buildings to represent a facility that would take up a huge amount of space. Most people devote an entire section of a layout to a facility like this but you found a way to represent it very well with very little space at all. Outstanding work and the turntable looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing. Rob
You are to humble, great job on this. Great job on the history too. Thanks, always fun to watch.
Hi Roy, I've been following your channel since the beginning and appreciate your work. Since I watch on a Roku TV, I cannot comment easily therefore I've been rather silent. I'm on my phone today. Your selective compression is awesome and I see how much you learned right along with us... Bravo sir!
Wow, that looks awesome! Great job Roy.
What a great addition to the scene Roy. The speeder adds a nice touch.
You are too modest about your own abilities Roy. As always you have done a very nice job. Evanston is developing very nicely. Graham
Great piece of kit bashing Roy. Fits the scene perfectly..👍😃
Very nice job Roy, you have been able to squeeze in that small space a lot of railroading. Maybe a group of rail fans going for a ride on it. Stay safe.
Great job representing the prototype scene Roy - really looks great! Best, John
You did a great job on the turntable. It fits in good. The scene is really coming together and looking awesome. Stay well. -Wil 👍
Roy, The progress you have made on the turntable looks great! I have enjoyed watching this scene develop over the last few weeks. Keep up the great work! Tony
Roy, Nice job. This whole backscene area is starting to come together nicely. Cheers, Chris Perry.
Another excellent piece to your renovation in that area of your layout, Roy! Well done! John
Looking good Roy
That really looks fantastic Roy! Thanks for another great video! I think it would be really great to see people lined up to take a ride on the speeder. I enjoy seeing unique scenes that give the impression that an actual event is happening at that location like a model train show.
Nice work, Roy. Your roundhouse scene is a creative solution to putting a large scene into a small space. Well done! 😀👍
Roy that whole scene is looking spectacular buddy. Great work my friend
Looking great Roy! The whole scene is really coming together... cheers from Melbourne Australia
Your turntable and its speeder both came out fantastic Roy. That is really going to complete the renovated roundhouse scene. Thanks for sharing your process with us. Art...
Very good Roy. Your model conveys the wieght and sturdiness of the real thing. This is another good lesson in the art of compression. Something I am trying to come to terms with in my modelling attempts at home. Thanks for the help eliminating the rivet counter in me! Regards Stephen.
Wow! Better you than me, Roy. That speeder is TINY!
Roy!! Wow! Very nice job! That looks fantastic! 😃
Another excellent video. I'm always looking forward to the next one! Great job Roy!
Hi Roy, that turned out quite nice! Looking forward to more of your renovations work!
Hi Roy. Awesome modelling, the turntable looks great. I love the details such as the fencing and the wood planking. It looks very realistic. Looking forward to the next video in the Evanston project. 👍
Roy that build looks amazing! Yep if there was a meet there I would try to go. Thanks for sharing. Dave
Nice job Roy, looks awesome on the layout. That renovation is coming along great. Thanks for sharing and stay safe. Ken
Lovely piece of work Roy. Looks very realistic. Cheers, Bob
You definitely got the look and feel down pat 👍👍
Hi Roy, I couldn't even tell that turntable was a bridge kit from your pic the other day. You did a very good job on it. That speeder looks really cool too! - Jason
Good job Roy. I'm in the process of kit bashing Walthers union station. First time for me. Thanks for sharing.
Roy, a very interesting and excellent kitbash.
Love the turn table. Great job. The wood planks are awesome.
Amazing! We love your full project!
Great job, i remember the speeders from when i was young,
Cool turntable. Glad to see your progress on The roundhouse.
Thanks Roy, it was worth the wait...Anthony
hi Roy...awesome job...you got it close to the prototype..thx 4 sharing...vinny
Your renovation is going so well and a marked improvement of the previous Evanston. You really ought to show the roundhouse from nearer ground level more often. From that angle the transition between the 3D and 2D parts looks more convincing than the helicopter view.
Fantastic ideals, and as always thank you for sharing
nice job Roy. that looks pretty close. I do like how you did the wood planks,
I don't know about a greet and meet there. but in years to come. you never know
Great job Roy
There is no doubt where this location is, like you say it's not exact but it certainly captures the feel. Now you need a "Model Railroad Show" sign and a bunch of foamers standing around. :D
Wow what fun thanks for producing this video
Wait! What? What day is it? Hi ya Roy. That was a great build. You are such a humble guy. That turntable looks fantastic. Great kit bash. Well done. Thanks. See ya tomorrow for Dispatch.
Looks good, Roy!
That turntable is very well done, a creative use of a bridge kit! I also quite like the forced perspective on the roundhouse to fit it into a particular spot. The whole scene adds a lot of character to a 21st century railroading scene!
Great job Roy, looks good. Bob
That looks great! If you ever have the chance, there is a great railroad museum in Danbury CT. They have an operational turntable and cab rides through the yard. I had the pleasure to ride on an ALCO-RS1.
That looking really good Roy
Nicely done
Looks really good..great job....
Looks great Roy, I was wondering were you got that little speeder, but you told me in the video before I could ask it looks great on the turntable. Looking forward to seeing the rest getting done too....thanks for sharing....Jack 👍👍
Jack, thanks for watching. I bought the speeder from Fifer Hobby Supply. ...Roy
That is one hell of a job sir. It cool how you use a jar lid for the pit area. It's going to look awesome once the whole thing is scenic.
Hey Roy. I’ve been watching your videos for several years now and love everything I see. The only thing I would like to suggest is to round off the edges of your turntable. If it was to turn, it looks as though it would snag on the the tracks. Cheers, from mikey. Melbourne, Australia
