Now, when looking at housing it is not that expensive in comparison, but it is when we look at other cost of living (groceries, eating out, etc). Though 900gbp in rent is rather for a studio, not for a proper flat. Same goes for other places, like Southampton, where under 1000gbp you now can't rent any flat or house with more than 1 room. It is always important to have context on how those prices are considered. I'm unsure what the creator considers a modest accommodation... Propably a worn out studio 😂

Questions is what the creator considers a "modest accommodation". 3 years ago I lived in Worthing, paid 775 GBP per month for a 2 bedroom flat in the centre, which was a bargain. Usually you had to consider 900-1100 gbp per month. This flat has now been rented out for 1295 gbp.over 500gbp increase over 3 years. Generally, you don't get any 2 bedroom accommodation under 1100gbp,we're looking at 1100 (for something shabby) to about 2000gbp now. Even 1 bedroom flats and studios under 950gbp is now part impossible. London and further down south you need to think of minimum 1000gbp for a studio or 1 bedroom property, unless you get lucky. But it's likely that it will be a bit too desirable place to live... Housing cost all over the UK went up like crazy, less in the places where the crime rate a higher, salaries and job opportunities are lower, more scarce. More homeless persons by the day, more people in danger to become homeless by the day, less people getting mortgages granted, more people trying to rent, but less homes available, and in top you'll pay far more for rent than a mortgage would ever be, with the difference that the home will never be yours. Basically, you're losing money. Naturally, renting is for people that move around a lot,for those who can't get a mortgage, and for those who plan to buy but are not yet sure where or just started working (young people, young families, etc) that are just not prepared yet to buy

I think this video is misinformed by taking the average salary and not the lower normal salary. This is the biggest problem in this country, the amount of people on very low salaries who just simply can't have a life.
