    You will have to drag me off my bike, ride to the end even if I am in pain, getting on the bike and riding into the wilderness is like heaven to me can't beat it and the bonus of a glorious sunset 🍺☀

    I'm 71 and have been riding since I was a kid. Over those years I've had 2 crashes. Totaled my Goldwing when a pickup made a left turn in front of me in a place where there wasn't a road or driveway. Also hit a moose in Alaska. I now have MS and have moved to a scooter for my 2 wheel fix. Always feel better after a ride and it helps with my balance.

      @@MrHugemoth I think that is great that you are still able to ride a scooter and I think, hope and pray, that it will help slow the progression of your MS. I’m 60 years old and have been riding for 53 years. I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 12 years ago, but I had DBS surgery (they implanted electrodes deep in my brain) and it helped me a lot! The surgery eliminated my tremors, but I still have severe Dystonia at times. Fortunately I have realized that when I ride motorcycles I feel unusually good and typically don’t feel my symptoms at all (especially if I start very early in the morning), but I have gone to a Honda Africa DCT because I do start to struggle with my left foot (due to Dystonia) after a couple of hours of riding, but overall riding does trigger something very positive in my brain. When I get off my bike I feel so good that it seems like I should be able to walk without a severe limp in my left leg, but unfortunately I always limp significantly after a long ride. I also have an ADV 160 and I absolutely love it!!!!! I have always had a scooter in my garage. I wish you the best luck and I hope you are able to continue enjoying your scooter for many years. May God bless you.

    I want every one to listen very carefully to what Q. M. has to say in the second half of this video. Truer words are never spoken.
    I haven't ridden a bike in 10 years and I miss the hell out of it. I high sided my Katana in the 90's. The bike landed on top of me (unknown to me at the time) it crushed two disks in my lower back and cracked two vertebra in my neck. I kept riding until I had so much pain and nerve damage (20 years later) and went to see an orthopedic surgeon who told me; if you crash another bike, I'll fit for a wheel chair! I sold all of my bikes, telling myself the whole time, that it was for the best... Riding was my life for 50 years, it was the closest thing to flying I ever knew. I miss my freedom.
    God bless all of my brothers and sisters on 2 wheels, keep them safe and protect them from the stupid ones we are doomed to share the roads with.

    QM makes a very good point that many of the cars nowadays are more of an arms race. Who has the bigger car? Especially with how the law in the USA doesn't incentivise smaller vehicles. It's probably more of a penalty to have a smaller vehicle. And motorcycles are affordable and maintainable modes of transportation! I have to do way less to maintain my bike than I do my car. Stay safe!

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 месяца назад +3

      Agreed 💯! That problem is compounded by our import laws and manufacturer incentives from the federal "government." We CAN'T get cheap, affordable cars/trucks here because the regulators won't allow them to be sold or registered on our roads. Inexpensive and/or EFFICIENT vehicles don't generate enough sales/excise and fuel taxes to grease the grimy government gears.
      A perfect case in point is the new Toyota pickup truck being sold for ~$10K overseas. It's a basic, reliable truck without any fancy electronics, posh interior treatments, no 5G infotainment system, and no built-in-always-connected internet kill switch. It's just a practical vehicle that will probably outlive the cockroaches in the next nuclear holocaust. Unfortunately, we will never see those simple vehicles on our shores because the manufacturers won't (or can't) bring anything here that's efficient or sells for less than $20K.
      Motorcyclists, in general, are minimalists. We want function over form or fashion. We crave the mechanical simplicity of interacting with our machines in a tactile and meaningful way... just man and machine... control vs technological chaos. 😒 --QM

    Back in 2017 I got thrown off my Honda Goldwing in Kanab Utah. Little dimwit talking on the cell phone bling intersection. It took me out T-bone me. I thought that very nice expensive jacket I was wearing was going to save me. Not. The elbow pads shifted on both arms, causing brakes and shatters from the elbow up to the shoulder I’m coming up on seven years. In two weeks I’m going to buy my new bike. Much lighter because of limitations to push and pull on my arms. But I’m picking up a 2024 ibex 800 Moto camping will be a little different.closing and food supplies only on the bike and I’m staying in air-conditioned cabins at night or state Park lodges.

    Honestly if you start feeling like it's getting too dangerous, find the time and money to go on a holiday in Thailand, India, Vietnam, or Indonesia. The kind of traffic you get in the US seems much safer in comparison. This is not to say your suffering is invalid because other people suffer more, it's to remind you that the roads you ride on is one of the safest in the world and the dangers that do exist are mostly predictable.

      maybe it was because it was my 16th birthday Nov 10th 1977 and i was young. while i spent 8 weeks in a arm cast and 10 weeks in in a leg cast. the day i got them off i got back on the same bike and rode it down the street. my dad rebuilt that bike in them 10 weeks i couldn't ride. and i think if i didn't want to he would have made me ride it anyways. and glad i did get back on it.

    What about the cruise control issue,and didn’t you have to have the computer flashed.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  Месяц назад

      The cruise control problem was caused by a fluttering (bouncing) rear brake switch. I adjusted the switch plunger by one turn to engage sooner, and the issue hasn't resurfaced.
      The computer "reflash" was just a reset & relearn for the DCT. I had several occasions where the throttle seemed to hang high (equivalent to about 1/8 throttle) when slowing down from highway speeds. The engine would overrun and stay in 2nd gear, rolling along at about 28 mph with zero throttle instead of deceleration to a stop.
      That idle overrun only seemed to happen when the ambient temperature was above 100°F. I haven't noticed it yet this summer, but I haven't been riding the Rebel enough to know if it's gone or not. 🤞😉👍 --QM

    Have you considered changing sprockets to lower top gear RPM?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 месяца назад

      I've considered doing a +1T front sprocket, but I don't know if that will work on the Rebel 1100. This is the DCT model, so it might cause the computer to have a hissy fit due to different wheel speed vs RPM mappings in the computer.
      I've also heard reports from some owners experiencing TC and cruise control problems after installing different sized tires. The same issue might also happen with a sprocket change. It would be an interesting test and a good upgrade to calm down the engine a bit... maybe increase fuel economy just a bit at the same time. 🤔 --QM

    Oh man talking about idiots on the road. Had a guy riding my ass on the way to work this morning. I was already doing 10 mph over the speed limit in town and he was right up my ass. We got to a light I went into the turn lane when he pulled up I looked over and he was counting money while driving. So up my ass and not even paying attention to the road. He was in a Subaru, which in my area Subaru drivers are the worst on the road.

      @dinospumoni8860 Yep... aggressive, clueless cagers are everywhere these days. That genius in the black truck passed me at over 100 mph (in a 60 zone). What you couldn't see on camera was that he came flying past me diagonally from the far right exit lanes and missed me by only about 1.5 car lengths at that speed. Houston is completely out of control with homicidal driving behaviors. 😒 --QM
