    I'm so glad you liked this movie, Grace! I wasn't sure how it would play to the non-D&D crowd. Something you mentioned brings up a question: I always thought that these pre-release sneak preview screenings were added to the opening weekend box office - is that not the case?
    If not - I'm feeling kind of bad now about bringing 10 of my fellow D&D'ers to the sneak preview last weekend! We all loved it - but, the theater was packed with D&D fans who couldn't wait to see it, and so now I'm really worried that Paramount may have shot themselves in the foot.

    • @nikitamohan3390
      @nikitamohan3390 Год назад +2

      Umm there are a bunch of early screenings for this movie in most theaters even Canada. Like I am watching it this Sunday even though this movie comes out on the 31st but I just felt like I couldn't wait anymore lol. Like Grace said, they want to generate a strong word of mouth buzz for this movie before it's opening weekend. I just hope it can survive at the box office for a month at least because it has been unfortunately sandwiched between John Wick 4 and Super Mario Bros.

    • @scottcoz
      @scottcoz Год назад +2

      @@nikitamohan3390 Yes, I know - that's the point! If ticket sales for early screenings are NOT included in the "opening box office" numbers, and, say, all the hardcore D&D fans go to an early screening, and thus the actual opening weekend box office is SMALLER than it otherwise would have been, the movie could end up being a flop!
      Having so many early screenings could end up being counter-productive - that was Grace's point

    • @nikitamohan3390
      @nikitamohan3390 Год назад

      @@scottcoz umm I have never ever heard of any movie ever flopping because of early screenings though unless it was a mediocre and dull film to begin with! That's clearly not the case here. It's supposed to help the film and will be included in the film's lifetime collections. Some movies like super mario bros and air are opening on Wednesday or on any big holiday weekend and I guess the Wednesday and Thursday collections are not included in their respective opening weekends but if they flopped, it wouldn't be because they released on a Wednesday. Just saying. And D&d has a budget of 150 million. Not exactly some cheap indie low risk project. The box office of this film matters if they are hoping for sequels and potential TV shows I guess.

    • @scottcoz
      @scottcoz Год назад +1

      @@nikitamohan3390 You keep starting every post with "umm" so perhaps you don't understand the point? I'm responding specifically to what Grace said at 13:15 - when she expressed concern that all these advance screenings might hurt the opening weekend box office.
      Forgive me if I consider Grace to be a little more knowledgeable on the subject than some rando on the internet - hence why I was asking HER a question, and hoping she'll answer, since, frankly, your responses are not being particularly helpful.
      "Some movies... are opening on Wednesday... and I guess the Wednesday and Thursday collections are not included in their respective opening weekends" - that's not correct. When a movie opens on a Wednesday, those ticket sales ARE included in "opening weekend box office" totals, but then they also provide the "3-day weekend box office total," for comparison. Hence my assumption that sneak preview ticket sales WOULD be added to opening weekend box office - but Grace's concern makes me think that they are NOT added, so I was hoping for clarification on that.

    • @nikitamohan3390
      @nikitamohan3390 Год назад +1

      @@scottcoz yes I read what you said. You weren't talking Greek or Latin or quantum physics that I would struggle for even a second to understand. There's no double meaning here. Yes the "umm" was 100% intentional and cuz I literally typed exactly what I thought. Lol THAT'S what you are nitpicking on? And since the umm bothers you so much and I suspect you need further clarification, people usually say or type "umm" if they heard or saw something awkward or in this case, hearing something that didn't make sense. I honestly don't know a single film in the history of cinema in any language which flopped SPECIFICALLY and ONLY because of early screenings which is usually a crucial part of promoting a film and helping it gain momentum. I don't know of such an example which is why I asked you for a clarification or such an example to support your claims but you clearly seem way more interested in attacking my diction instead. So I guess there's nothing more to say.

I agree with Grace's enthusiastic review (and she is not an easy critic to impress!). Though while Chris Pine is ostensibly the lead, it really does feel a lot like an ensemble cast, with each character having their own story arc, flaws, struggles, vulnerabilities, etc. And in an era where so many characters are hatefully toxic, it was refreshing to have a fun, action-packed film where everyone was genuinely likeable! My wife's favourite was Doric, the druid. Dungeons and dragons fans keep winning.
    March has been fantastic, not a single non-banger (I even liked 65!).
    EDIT: I too am worried they have been doing way too many sneak previews for this taking away from the opening weekend, don't want to Love Simon it (that movie was great also).

    Jus saw it and loved it. Y'know I have a bias being a big dnd fan and it's not like amazing etc but it was so much fun with great vfx, fun action sequences, clever uses for magics, and a very charming cast. I had a lot of fun and would be down for future films in this world.

    Here's the thing about Chris Pine. In his movie roles, he's a legit feminist. And he can take their nerdiest content and sell the character as believable and cool. Now I want to see this. Even tho all I know about D&D is that they were the uber-nerds of the schoolyard.

    I saw this Last week. I'm a casual D&D fan..and thought the film was fun. Very comic booky in the sense there's a lot of modern language and one liners, humor. It's way better than the 2000s one.

    I saw a sneak peak yesterday Thursday afternoon (only one in the whole theater). I absolutely loved it. I hope a lot of people treat themselves. I’m not a D&D fan, I’ve tried playing and it’s not for me but I still really enjoyed the film. I too thought it it was LOTR level fantasy. And I know those two LOL parts. I really had a good uncontrollable laugh.

    the horse cgi on some of the panoramic shots was wonky but the owl bear was fantastic and the tubby dragon. an enjoyable slightly overly long movie. pine not being giga chat ultimate warrior knight worked because he's not those he's a bard. so it make sense.
