Season 5 Starting, but What About Year 2?! | Battlefield 2042 Elite Upgrade and the Future

- Season 5 game trailer is coming very soon with the new map being teased and unveiled. But does this mean we will be getting a year 2? That seems very much up in the air.

If they seriously cut support after this season, 2042 is easily going down as one of the worst live services in triple-A history. 5 maps post launch is just embarrassing from a game of this scale.

@@georgewashington1988 But nothing as bad as 2042. BFV was also considered a live service failure and even that game had double the amount of maps of 2042.
5 maps in two full years in the first place wasn't embarrassing enough already, they still half assed the vault weapons expansion this season. Only 3 weapons (all ARs of course for the braindead players to feel like they are good with no recoil on their guns and bow superior optics to boot), a couple more got slight add ons, and some of the weapons got literally NOTHING added to them lmfao. 3 fucking months they advertised this and they STILL fucking dropped the ball. This developer is such a fucking bloody joke it blows my mind how they haven't gone bankrupt after this many failed games in a row.

I feel like there isn't a year 2 but then again, I also thought about the last DLC's we get for Battlefield. Battlefield 3: Endgame, Battlefield 4: Final Stand (both those DLCs are some of the best DLCs ever btw), Battlefield Hardline: Betrayal, Battlefield 1: Apocalypse, now Battlefield V didn't sound like the end, but it also seemed like it ended out of nowhere and like they HAD more content planned, but weren't able to deliver on that. This is why I don't think we're getting a Year 2 for 2042. First off, this last Season is in 2046 or 2048 or something, and second, Battlefield V was cut short when we least expected it to be and it didn't sound like it would be. I wouldn't get my hopes up for a Year 2, ESPECIALLY if it's not announced before Season 5 even starts, that basically cements no Year 2 Support.
They cut support for BF5 because sales and player count didnt "meet expectations". I'm sure BF2042 did much MUCH worse in those terms, so you're probably right. Why continue to spend millions of dollars developing a game that has a player count often lower than the previous two entries? Whatever the marketing might have said or promised is all you'll get most likely.
Do you know what I'm afraid of? Names of the new season. On the other hand, it seems that who can call the final game "dawn"? But if you delve into the lore (with my not the best knowledge of English), then this still hints at the end of the plot of the game / game support. And all because if you listen to the recordings from the Easter eggs on the map (by activating which you can get rewards), then as far as I understand, the restless want to save something like their country with the help of a meteo satellite, which actually manages to be activated when the Easter eggs are activated. And in the end, I'm afraid that this hints at the end of the plot in the form of a "happy end" where the restless were able to ennoble the earth in some place with the help of this satellite, and get rid of natural disasters like a tornado in that very place. (perhaps they are fighting on the new map to capture this area and establish their settlements there) So I suspect that what we perceive as a hint of the second year may be exactly the opposite, the end of the game's life cycle.😢😢😢
It's going to be inspired by Zavod 311 and spiced up with the Titan factory from Giants of Karelia but it's going to be an entirely new map. Additionally they said the map is set in the Czech Republic.

From a business standpoint, it wouldnt make sense to cut support when the game is now getting good (aka more players, more money). I would think they would continue support with another 4-5 seasons delivering new maps, new weapons, new gadgets, new modes, new skins/camos (mastery camos?), new UI possibly? Theres just so much to expand on now that the game feels like a Proper bf game.

This Elite Upgrade is the same they did for BFV once it no longer got any more content. It's officially OVER for additional content for Battlefield 2042.

After dice dev's received golden ranger, I think season 5 is last, and after game support is done, waiting for new Battlefield.

I love this game ATM and I hope for year 2. BUT 5 maps in one year brother. Let that sink in
technically, way more than 1 calendar year at this point. Which is even worse. game is in a decent state though, just needs more love and care
Im alright with a year 2. But if it doesnt offer some type of competitive game modes. Like defuse mode or something. Maybe we get a firestorm 2 😂
LYear 1 was fixing the game. We deserve a real year 1. So year 2 is a must. A new Dawn sounds like a relaunch. A second chance you might say with a functional game. Why put so many efforts in fixing the game and make it feel like an old battlefield game to only cancel it once that work is done. I understand that 2042 is not everyone’s cup of tea but I really enjoy it. I think it’s now a good battlefield game. With missing features yes but still it’s scratches that battlefield itch for me. What I would be happy with is a year two that gives us upfront for four new portal Maps, and one new map per season until season eight and after it could be wrap. They probably have more finished maps that are just waiting to be launched while the team moves to the other game. So that would be 23 maps by the end of it. Not enough but its 2042 after all.

Think they will go for a year 2 cause theres no way they leave it till bf6. Imo they will go for a year 2 and then tease bf6 around may-june 2025. Playernumbers are booming right now, theres no way they pul the plug in a month
Just a reminder that player numbers for BF V were booming also when they pulled the plug there because of the Pacific and Western front American maps.....never doubt for a single second they wouldn't drop support for a game just because it has more players than usual from the beginning of the game.
I'd bet we're getting a year 2. 2042 is pretty much the only game ive played since it came out so i'm really hoping i'm right.
Also, i'd bet we finally find out what the new experience is that Ripple Effect has been working on and hopefully that BR mode is released sometime during year 2 as well.
But all the weapons and specialist are free in the game so I don't understand why people would pay for free items
High probability that S5 will be the last season for 2042, New Dawn is a new beginning, and the end of 2042 phase, but the game will be supported until early next year I think ? A lot of problems still need fixing, 2042 is underwhelming in terms of almost everything. So here's to the next BF, just don't pre-order.

There will not be a season 6. A few spot content updates beyond S5 but definitely no S6, it absolutely would have been announced already.

But why would they? Why spend millons off dollars creating new content for a playerbase thats often smaller than the previous entries? I just dont see it happening.
The layout of the map is almost exactly the same.
I have very little faith in year 2. I believe it's season 5 and that's it. One new map, one rework. Which would be a tragedy worse than BFV mess. Hope there's few more seasons because next game isn't coming until 2025 at the earliest.
Considering EA said it doesn't see Battlefield as "necessary" to DICE's growth, were never getting another Battlefield game again after this bro. Once this game ends its over. No Battlefield game again, if EA has to tell you your main IP isn't necessary that's equivalent to your boss calling your project an absoloute waste of fucking time and allocating you to somewhere else.
No they need to add 3 maps each season. My friends and I are tired of the same map rotation.

I dont know. "A new dawn" after a treacherous mission or a brutal storm sounds like possibly an easy ending to me. As bad as this game was panned when it released, and for good reason, they're going to end the game as soon as possible or as soon as everything promised in the marketing has been delivered.

It’s seriously pretty fucking gay if they give everyone the chance to earn all the cosmetics from season 1. Tier 100 Lis is supposed to be a bragging right, same with the Tier 1 season 1 badge.
