I think he feels like she loved him so much but he failed her. James just couldn’t be the man Carly needed. Carly says that she needed love from him beyond what he could give her. Carly had many struggles when she was younger and wanted James to fill gaps in herself. Carly also had to consider their children and how James addiction would affect them. His families tragic repeated habits of substance abuse. The nature and nurture of the dangers of they might face using substances to solve problems. I believe James had many reasons to quit and his children were one of them. Shame and the need for balance may be why he still distances himself from her. Her love may be all too consuming and James needs room to be. They both seem to care and respect each other and I am okay with that.🙏💕

Yes they do. But for many of us teens in the 70s addiction became a problem. I’m happily remarried now, but we both have been clean and sober for 30 years. Im actually remarried to a friend that I wouldn’t marry in the 80s bc he was a bad drunk and drug addict. I quit partying once I got pregnant with my first, but my kids dad was a drug addict and drunk. Many of us became unintentionally addicted and ruined a lot…relationships and also our kids. I wish the genz generation would learn from us…but I don’t see it unfortunately.

Well I don’t think many, if any, of the laurel canyon crowd would really be considered rockers. Soft rock primarily. Lots of talented people though.
