Billy Idol's new music video for Can't Break Me Down presents an allegorical noir story of love gone wrong.
Taking a cinematic approach, the action is set within the nightmare version of one of Hollywood’s most dynamic movie scenes - the climax of Orson Welles' The Lady From Shanghai. Directed by avant-garde director Jason Trucco, the movement is choreographed (and partly performed by) Ryan Heffington, who choreographed Sia's explosive Chandelier, and also features actress/dancer, Izabella Miko.
Billy Idol plays the role of hero, standing in for the Orson Welles protagonist, the strong but unfortunate masculine lover who is caught in the web created by an iconic femme fatale. She is a mysterious and seductive woman whose charms have ensnared her lover, played by Billy Idol, leading him into a compromising, dangerous, and deadly situation.

You still got it brother. I grew up with no dad, but I grew up with Billy Idol. Your music has helped me through the most difficult times in my life, being bullied in school in the 80's, losing my little brother at age 10 in 1987 and even through my first suicide attempt at age 12 in 1989.

Back in high school I was a hard core Idol fan,spiked hair,leather spiked gloves, lip curl etc. Billy was The Man.After listening to this song,he's still The Man.
He seriously just like fine wine. With age comes greatness. Billy looks awesome and still sounds just like he did in the 80's but even better. Always loved this guy but he just went up a whole new notch with this song and his new album The Cage. Outstanding!!!

Billy Idol surprised me so much. So many years and he still make something I can only say "wow" - I don't like pop influences in rock, I also don't like happy vibe in music with very few exceptions. This song has both, pop influence and happy vibe. And damn, I love it! Hats off, much respect for Billy, you still rock.

zoeydebra I buy CDs because they rip easily and don't take up a lot of space. I do have several stacks of LPs that need to be converted (most of them are out of print) but though my record player is in tip-top shape the amp is sorely in need of a complete tear-down. For most things, my hearing is just bad enough I don't hear the difference though.
But, I'm in my forties and can still pull of the long hair ;)

if Billy did this as a comeback in the late 90s or 2000s I bet it would've been pretty big. Unfortunately there's just no market for rock music and the industry is ageist towards anyone over 40. But this is one of the best songs he ever did, right up there with his 80s classics.

I've never been the hugest fan of Billy Idol, or most 80's music in general. However, i have to give him some serious credit for his plasticity in his videos/music. I think this is a masterful blend of 2 very different times. While i have heard modern genres give songs an 80's feel, Billy idol manages to give an 80's genre a modern feel. I really like this song..
