    It's so comforting to know that even you guys, high-level non-native speakers, don't understand 100% of spoken English. I'm not trying to lower the bar, but I understand that listening gets easier over time, though we will always struggle a bit sometimes. Very good video!

    Personally, as a non-native English speaker, I sometimes find it hard to understand even my own language when watching a movie. I just guess based on the context or situation. I don't think native English speakers would be much different.

      At the moment i still can't to think anything in English because in our mind we think many things specifically, i just know to think easy things like "i need to take my shower" or "I will take this thing"

    A long time ago, I'd no longer needed to use subtitles (to understand a movie but to check how a word it's spelled, I still use it) permit me to share some tips based on my experience.
    1. expanding the vocabulary, One of my problems to understand movies was because the most words of it I didn't know. So, as long as I was discovering new ones, the better I understood movies.
    2. Learning new words and their pronunciations related to a movie before watching it. For example, in an action movie, I would look for words like chase, go after, watch out, enemy, ally, etc. This trick, besides keeping words for a long time in your head because you'll be reviewing them, would also help you understand better your favorite movies.
    3. Do the shadowing technique, as Izzy already said.
    4. Vary the content that you use to learn; it'll help you to talk about anything and everything, as you'll be seeing a vast numbers of sentences but displaying words that you will inevitably learn and use.
    I hope from the bottom of my heart these tips help you on your journey of learning.

    I'm kind of addicted to subtitles. My curiosity is too big that I can't resist to turn them on when I don't understand. Sometimes I wonder if there is going to be a day that I can watch content smoothly without subtitles 😥

    • @Pedro94-dp
      @Pedro94-dp 16 дней назад +1

      But I think it's okay just turn on when you don't understand. Specially if you are learning vocabulary. For me when I don't understand most of the time it's because of words that I don't know don't beat yourself up. And movies is difficult because of the mumbling thing that they mentioned on the video

    When I was preparing for the IELTS Examination, since it is based on British accent, I chose one of my favorites tv shows for this purpose: Sherlock. However, I hardly caught some words or expressions since Benedict Cumberbatch speaks too fast. As this was a practice, I had to activate the subtitles and dedicated around 4 hours per one-hour episode. 🙈 However, at the end of the day I think it worked.

    I really enjoyed today's podcast. Recently, this week, I watched two movies. The first movie I watched was Garfield, and I grasped more than 60 percent without subtitle. Isn't it amazing 😍😍. Second movie was chipmunks, and I could grasp 40 to 45 percent but I enjoyed both.
    My takeaway is that if we wanna litterally understand any accent or language nothing is insurmountable. Great lesson with Fabolous teachers. 😊😊😊😊

    Oh my gosh with the program you mentioned, I didn’t understand anything the first time but after you said it clearly and you played it again I got more words, defined I wanna take a look on the show and the last movie I watched was Deadpool and Wolverine without subtitles but it was a good practicing because sometimes I think I rely too much on subtitles and it depends on the context of the show I’m watching, because of course sometimes my vocabulary is not huge on certain topics and in those cases I turn on the subtitles

    Movies are really difficult.yes I know that they're doing linking and reductions but when they start speaking i feel like there are words they don't even pronounce it However i found the interviews more clear than movies although they are linking the speech I don't know what is the reason for that.
