He blew his voice out during the black album recording and hired a professional vocal coach to help him sing more cleanly. I don’t know if you meant to include the stuff from the 80s but his aggressive approach back then was metal AF. When he learned to sing properly he also began focusing on major scales, even though the original songs were in minor keys. That’s probably why it sounds too neat.
