Actually there is one more method to get direct answer: For mirror images, if time is less than 12 then subtract it from 11:60, & if time is more than 12 then subtract it from 23:60 The same way, for water image, if the time is less than 6:30 then subtract it from 6:30, if it is more than 6:30 then subtract it from 18:30.

Me abhi dekh rahi hu sir bohot achhe se sab samajh me aa raha hai ak questions tha kya exam me ye ulta ata hai water image ya real image de k real image puchha ja sakta hai kya??
Water image will same for only vertical staright line i.e 12:30 but for different angle water image will change. Hence for 12:30 the water image is 6:00 so the maximum value is (12.30+6)18:30 hence we do minus
