I really wonder. Who knows. Regardless, it was great to see someone else use the word "reckon". I use it (I really do) and people look at me as if I suddenly turned black and white and my name is Jed.
Oh my gosh. Naked individualism on display here on the intertoobs. Someone call the police. Sincerely though, innovative ideas need to land somewhere. I’m glad that your creativity found purchase.
Interesting. It really does look like they did indeed address all your issues! Who knew? 👍🏻 Prolly won't ever own a Gerber knife... I dunno, just not my jam I guess. But if I did, I prolly would get that smaller camp knife over the OG strongarm.
I've had lots of them. Especially old ones. "Had". Only others I have now are Gatormates with ATS34 steel. They harden those to about 90RC. At least it seems that way. Wow!! Great little folder.
Got a Air Force survival knife from the 70's as a young lad. Nowadays its a truck knife. Was thinking if I get bored enough I might give it a convex edge. I'm kinda lazy though.
That sounds like a great piece of history! Giving it a convex edge could definitely enhance its functionality. Sometimes a little boredom leads to the best projects! Plus, it is super easy!!
@@knifetimestory Question...should I use sandpaper over mousepad, a little electric Worksharp with belts, or use a diamond stone the way an axe is sharpened with a puck?
I'm never completely happy with whatever piece of gear I acquire directly from a manufacturer. So, I completely understand. Part of the problem I find with most things is that they tend to have more $#!T than is needed. What's that saying? Less is more, and more is less? Yeah, that's it.
I totally get where you’re coming from! It’s frustrating when gear comes packed with unnecessary features. Sometimes simplicity really is the best approach.
Why not use 3V, bump the price up $20.00 and get something a mite better. I can't buy a knife with crap steel. Life is short for shit. I have owned several of these Strong Arm. Given to me. Got rid of them.
Honestly if you think 420hc made by Buck is crap you have a lot to learn about steel and the knife industry. A camp knife to many has one big requirement, that you be able to easily sharpen on the go and fix chips/rolls. 420hc when done well is great for that while having pretty substantial edge retention compared to the more basic carbon steels 80crv2/o1/1095 etc. Its also much more stainless than 3v. This is all while being extremely stainless, and one of the toughest knife steels period...and for a pretty low price. Honestly the dopes like you that crap on every steel because its not forever edge holding and made from the latest CPM process really need to get outside and actually use them. Maybe one day you will actually use it enough to appreciate ease of sharpening and fine grain structure.
@@1800moonSugar first off, you don’t know me and am in my 60’s and got my first knife at 5! Far from a dope! I’ve owned hundreds of knives, everything from Randall’s to this tent peg you call a knife. I don’t look for ease of sharpening in the field as actually know how to sharpen a knife and a decent steel can hold an edge. Maybe, you should start off being a little less condescending. I have my opinion and it is MINE! If my opinion offends you kiss my ass.
better is an opinion, go watch some toughness tests on it then come back people freak out about the steel kind not knowing that how its made is the most important aspect.
@@SirPraiseSun There are many aspects of a good knife. Steel type being one but, according to the knife guru Larin Thomas, edge geometry is the most important. I own a ton of knives and yes, my opinion is better steel makes a better overall knife. The Strong arm in my opinion and yes opinions are funny things as they belong to the person giving his or hers, has subpar knife steel and not a great design. We can go into steel types, manufacturer's, heat treatment, geometry, grain structure, use for the individual knife compared to the steel type. There are a group of folks who favor soft steel or cheap steel for ease of sharpening in then filed. I am not that guy. My favorite steel is K390. I spend six months a year going into the woods and have tested a ton of steels, edges, heat treat ETC. The scale always tips toward to better steels all being equal. I take a hand held double sided Falkniven diamond whet stone into the woods but, rarely need it for K390. I literally butchered and entire hog weighing 300 lbs. I hit bone, sinew, muscle, the breast plate and still hair popping sharp. Try that with a Strong arm and you will spend an hour just sharpening the knife.
@@joelhunter984 too bad you don't actually understand what better steel is and that most of it is a trade-off so it really just depends on user preference and what they value. You're clearly someone that doesn't touch grass much so having the latest greatest super steel with high Edge retention is really all you care about.
you are a clueless noob, go watch JoeX video or anyone who did a toughness test on the Strongarm the steel is insanely tough and strong its made really good.

Thanks for the video Tom, I enjoy them greatly 👌
So glad you like them. Thanks for watching and taking the time to say so.
At least we get to say we knew you before you get super famous and the Gerber Tom becomes a household necessity
Fun to think that could be a thing. I won't hold my breath though.
We Need to Thank You, I reckon they saw you're video.

I say you sue Gerber, this is your knife.
Ha! I can see how well that would go. It's fun just knowing/feeling I had a little influence...or not. Who knows.
I modify everything I buy. Glad, I'm not the only one
I'm glad I'm not the only one either. So many are intimidated by that sort of thing. I've never understood that.

Tom, just admit it……You’re from the future, aren’t you?
Yes. The future is bright and knife prices actually start to get lower.
Delusions of grandeur…. Im sure it was your comments that made them create it……. Hahaha.
I know, right!
👍👍👍. Maybe a coincidence 🤔? Not likely...have a good day.🇺🇲🌲🔥🔪
Haha, right? Coincidences can be wild! Hope you have an epic day ahead! ✌️
