In my state there are certified occupational therapists who do comprehensive driver assessment. It includes cognitive testing, driving simulators. And if it’s safe actually driving with the therapist. It’s through the local hospitals. Only drawback is it is not covered by insurance. This is the avenue we used for my dad, and my mother in-law. They report to the ordering physician.

That's a great program. Sometimes it takes someone who isn't family - especially if it's a child dealing with a parent.

Well, I asked my Neurology about of it was safe for me to drive still just diagnosed with Lewy Body and he said yes because I was in the beginning stages but I am so glad you put the legal aspect in there Deborah as well as the Insurance. It stinks at 58 to give up my driving on the freeways and highways but I would never want to be responsible for causing harm to anyone else on the road.

Oh my gosh thank you! I have watched a couple of your videos so far. I have a feeling that my mom is in early
Stages of dementia. Having her tested. I think you are close to where I live too. I feel like I am hearing myself talk with some of the things you have said. Thank you for giving me some comfort that I am seeing what I am and my feelings are correct!

Just purchased set of 2 identical clickers and uncut keys from Amazon for about $12. As soon as we find the 2nd set of keys that she said I hid from her but yet she hid on her own, we're swapping the real out for the non-functional ones. She hasn't actually tried to drive, she hasn't driven since 2014 and didn't pass her renewal exam but yet she's starting to leave the house and roam.

It's hard for sure. We were also blamed for "stealing" things that were misplaced. I found most items when I cleaned out the house.

@@lifeunderdeborahspalm-thed8114 Good news! She was having an issue with her tv and when I got the Vizio remote out of her desk drawer to fix it, I found the other set of keys. My sister looked in those drawers a week ago and they weren't there. Of course I didn't touch them because she was having a normal day, standing too close by and I couldn't draw attention to the situation but will definitely swap them for the fake clicker and uncut key as soon as my sister can keep her distracted long enough. Mom never seems the need to go into the bathroom and pee when I need her out of the room long enough lately. LOL

In our case the , "darn key" came apart. I leave it at that because he puts his key in his pocket when we go anywhere. Handy because if I lamely lock us out, his will open the door only.

I hid the 4 wheeler and tractor keys, though he hasn't actively tried driving them. So hard to do but for his safety.
