She was the nicest woman I ever met. She and I hit it off when I was a young 17 year old girl. Ms. Duke alway’s called my mom and asked if she'd mind if she could see me. My mom loved her so much and they even spoke about humanitarian aid and Ms Duke helped my mom who devoted her life to humanitarian aid all over the world. My grandfather made pearls for her one of a kind. It was shocking when she asked my mother about a set of pearls she was wearing. That's when we learned of that as my grandfather was the man who made one of a kind design jewelry introducing pearls to the Japanese made so many different styles for many. He also was the one if you're wearing an Eternity band made the first in the world. I'm really happy I have the first he made. Ms Duke became a very important part of my life and certain decisions I'd ask her advice for. It breaks my heart what the state of New Jersey has been endlessly doing to her estate the grounds that she loved so dearly her amazing trees she had flown in from Africa and planted so perfectly. I'll often go quietly and just sit and remember those wounderful moments memories of having the pleasure of knowing the real woman behind certain people's beliefs. There's so many things people aren't aware of that she deserves credit for and the state has some nerve damaging what truly could have been a fantastic historical history lesson and more. I miss her dearly. Was she close to her family? I'll never speak regarding that. She in fact lived very down to earth often she'd even randomly leave her house and enjoy the people who came to visit her beautiful green houses. I remember the first time I saw her do it and the faces of shock and amazement on people's faces. She wasn't what people assumed she was in any sense or did she care much for having to be private protected 247. I remember a real woman human being. Money is nice but there's many things it can't buy it can't bring joy and happiness She often said certain thing's like that to me. I can say I am greatful for certain part's of the 80’s and when she suddenly passed away I was on the road. I thank her for the advice she gave me on that one as well. Wonderfully dressed alway’s Ms Duke looked even in her long flowing dressed she'd wear relaxing and her lovely spots wear. She brought me my frist amazing Ralph Lauren sweater. I cherish every moment good or sad when around her. People really should know about her place in New Jersey
The home is absolutely stunning. I hope she got a lot of joy from it. I have, personally, travelled a bit in Islamic countries and I can see why she is drawn to their works... Stunning... especially if you travel to Iran, you will see beauties beyond comprehension.
What a great idea to have brilliant arch professor and wonderful teacher Kazi Ashrof affiliated with this wonderful union of art design & architecture. I had no idea how much of an impact his teaching & example would have on me later in life. I feel so blessed to have learned from Kazi. Especially in the world of ancient architecture. I believe it was on a honeymoon but I’m not sure the first time she traveled through the Middle East and into India and fell in love with the architecture. She visited the area throughout her life and eventually built a tribute to it which you see here. An absolutely gorgeous home. New Jersey does not have a great climate but her estate there is stunning as well and the orchid houses are some of the best I’ve ever seen.
@@rachelmareywinn 💙 oh, there are some videos of the orchid houses here on RUclips. Just type them into the search bar. I cannot remember the name of the New Jersey estate but I’m sure “Doris Duke New Jersey orchids” will get you there
@@rachelmareywinn Great place to start. The Susan Sarandon Ralph Fiennes movie is pretty good but is far from accurate historically. This can be found easily online if you’ve never seen it. I believe it was an HBO movie
Another long-time home of Doris Duke, and I believe where she died, was the beautiful 1920's Falcon's Lair, in Beverly Hills-adjacent Benedict Canyon. This was the exotic home of Rudoph Valentino. Duke rented it to Gloria Swanson when she filmed "Sunset Boulevard," 1950. Sadly and quite recently most of this Hollywood historic residence was torn-down, leaving just the walls and gates. Nice to see the beautiful Shangri-la protected, and enjoyed by the public.c
yes she had depth those geometric arts are the secrets of nature at quantum level called sacred geometry. it seemed like she was interested in the secrets of the universe.

Great story. It’s nice to know that Doris Duke has depth. All the other stories are so lurid.
What other stories?
This is so fabulous!

One of the most beautiful museums that I have ever seen. I love that she traveled and studied. Thank Goodness her father had her!
The Hawaiian Islands are the most lovely places I’ve stayed on many vacations. I would really like to see this historic collection and the home.

@Duke Atlas glad I could help =)
Didn't this lady run over her interior decorator because he was moving to California and she said the car malfunctioned
She claimed that. Tho graunching your friend/interior decorator by accidentally dragging him 40’ seems like “accidentally” is a charitable definition…
Islamic art is beautiful
