    You forgot their method of deployment: loaded in multilayered capsules and fired out at the planet surface from orbit. As they descend the capsules shed layers of reflective metallic materials to the point that any targeting system has a nervous breakdown trying to shoot the real targets. It makes a platoon sized unit look like an entire army on scanners

    • @NoESanity
      @NoESanity 5 лет назад +6

      though i'm not sure that really counts as an advantage. if you look at similar ways to do that now, a handful of space marines, spartans or what ever flavor you prefer can fall behind enemy lines in basic stealth. however the MI capsules are basically a huge "hey bitches guess who's in town" and while i'm sure they have a stealthier option for fights that didn't involve the bugs, it is really hard to call something that announces your presence to the enemy is advantageous.

    • @LostDraugr
      @LostDraugr 5 лет назад +1

      It’s works as an advantage because if you look on scanners and see a larger force incoming you send more troops to take down that force which would allow a smaller team to infiltrate from the back door with much more ease

    Of course, the book MI is more working than the movie MI, but everyone forgot that in the book the bugs have ships, technology, and nukes too. That arsenal includes a beam weapon designed to pass through MI suit armor without damaging it but cutting the flesh under it.
    Having said that, in the book Rico said that ship to ship the humans has the advantage since looks like the humans are more advanced but numbers again.
    In fact, as far as I remember the bugs have a fuckton of POWs in Klendafu as human shields to avoid the use of Nova Bombs on it.

      @@AbysmalRapture I think they're going for the "Where the unit orginated" route, rather than "just movies" and "just games" and since the movie didn't do Mobile Infantry any justice, they're using the pros from the book. Becouse the movie is not even a caricature of the book, it is its antithesis. Those 40 years that happened between the book and the movie made it do a literal 180 turn. To put it simply- Vietnam happened. Also Hippies, Watergate, Collapse of Soviet Union and Gulf War, but 9-11 2nd Gulf and 2008 Crash didn't yet. Society was at the peak of egoism and blind consumptionism. "Fuck everything, it only matters that i have fun". The '90s were basically today without all the problems and less technology. The fact that Verhooven didn't even finish the book also didn't help. He turned a philosophical dispute about nature of warfare, service and sacrifice for a "greater good" and to what extent is it acceptable into a parody action movie with the message of "War is bad, serving is stupid and soldiers are macho retards" which is completely overlooked by majority of viewers who praise the movie as a simple action flick, same with Robocop.

    Heinlein wrote "Starship Troopers" before the military juntas in Latin America proved themselves incompetent economically (Hyper-inflation) and militarily (Falklands War). It was also written before Vietnam and the Northern Ireland Troubles, where large advanced armies fought guerrilla and insurgent forces. I always recommend that people read "Starship Troopers" and then read the classic hard-SF novel "The Forever War" because each book provides an outstanding "before and after" counterpoint in understanding that era between the two.

    • @MEGATRYANT
      @MEGATRYANT 5 лет назад

      I don't really see how corruption-ridden pro-fascist goverments prove anything about Starship troopers Federation, essentially a political oligarchy based on voluntary service to the collective with very liberal/libertarian individual values.
      And Starship Troopers would actually work as case AGAINST how Vietnam was handled, as it was basically a war that was being pushed by politicians and with constant concession to the communists by part of the US (No ground invasion of Northern Vietnam, limited bombing campaings, attempts at negotiating a "2 country" solution similar to Korea, etc), especially with Nixon attempting to extend the war for political purposes. By the Tet Offensive the Viet Cong was effectively wiped out from South Vietnam and was then formed mostly by Northern Vietnamese militias, wich would commonly get routed by local ARNV troops that had knowledge of the terrain. Another point for the book's use of "controlled, but extreme violence" was the lifting of restrictions on bombing campaings over North Vietnam, especially Hanoi, wich forced the Viet Mihn to the negotiation table, the fall of South Vietnam would only come after it became clear US congress had abandonned them to their fate, and wouldn't be fufilling their promise of support or military material aid, crippling the ARNV morale.

    For those approving of Robert Heinlein's philosophy, they may want to read some of his other books, like say "Time enough for Love. Here's a brief synopsis of the relevant points.
    In the future a 2000 year old man (the oldest) has given up on life and rejects further rejuvenation treatments, so a couple of his descendants (the largest demographic in humanity) stage a intervention. The Senior (as he is referred to by the rest of humanity) is a libertarian hero and pioneer that led the exodus from Earth and also espouses the 'Democracy is weak, a individual and his gun' philosophy.
    Good eh ? The Senior talks about important events in his life and we see him as Heinlein's perfect man ideologically. He was even born in approximately the same year as Heinlein (1907), and lived till the development of suspended animation and then rejuvenation because he was part of a secret selective breeding program over centuries to increase the human lifespan.
    Well …
    By the end he travels back in time to where he is an infant, and has sex with his own mother, but since he's already previously had sex with his twin teenage cross sex clones (he points out they are stacked redheads) it's not as big a step as first thought.
    So the author of Starship Troopers wrote a book where the character he saw as an idealized version of himself was literally a MOTHERFUCKER.

In the live-action films the idea that gender doesn't play much of a role in society as it does today. I know you mentioned it as a disadvantage, but ideally it would be good right? They showed men and women played professional sports together, showered together, fought together. Maybe in the films it wasn't explored that well, but I think it's an interesting idea
