15 years later and I'm still coming back to this old recording. Such a deep and emotional performance. The song and lyrics are so raw. You can actually feel every single word he lets out. This and Rootless Tree hit me so hard every time!
A lot of his chords are variants of major chords. Basically Am, F, C, G repeat. But he keeps the low E open on his F chord, and his C is more of a C/G (love that chord) and the occasional hammer on the Am 7th is subtle yet seemless. I love playing this song! Look for video response soon!
oh lord, i love him so much! love the way he looks, love his voice! he is so magically full of emotions, his eyes closed, his body moves as the music blows... this man is kinda god to me
Damien you once in a lifetime legend… you made it soooo hard for us to play this… it’s off beats in the chorus but that’s the beauty of it (on piano it’s amazing) still playing it acoustic is a super challenge… legend for a reason. Hoping one day I could witness your art live.
ah one of my fav. versions of nine crimes.. I learned how to play this song by watching his hands,.. everytime i could see them in this vid. thank you very much for all your videos... the damien + bell x1 stuff is just fantastic. i love channels like yours because you offer us so much great music. thank you! thank you srahman24.
There's a long way from merely closing ones eyes to "feeling" a song. A pretty good sign Rice does a good job at not only closing his eyes is, that he perfoms a completly, utterly different version which is as wonderful as the piano version!
every time i listen to that im totally in trance meanwhile. he has the most digressing voice ive ever heard..and i love him and his describtion of expression.
"Their proffesional relationship was at the end of it's creative course." - That's all thats really been said about it. She is currently playing with Snow Patrol.
He has a Pick tucked in his hand, uses it for the chorus & intro - its a good way to use a pick when you get the hang of it because it means you can use the soft of your thumb to vary the dynamics
@hbrlover234: Basically the chords are Am, F, C and G, repeating over and over. But he changes the fingering a little. Am stays the same. F becomes similar to C but the middle finger lays on the g-string 2nd fret and additionally the little finger is put on the d-string 3rd fret. The C looks as usual but with an additional finger on the E-string 3rd fret. Finally the G has the ordinary fingering on the E-string and the A-string plus a finger on the B-string in the first fret, the rest is open.
@MsFigure09: By ear I developed a very simpley strum pattern for this one. I'm not sure, if it is really close to what Damien is strumming, but it sounds very similar. ^^ So for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd chord I just strum down, down, down, down, up *change chord* down, down, down, down, up ... for the last chord, G, I use a faster strumming... for example down, up, down, up, down, down.. this way the last chord appears more powerful .. and you can create some variety in the strumming..

Hello from 2020, still one of my favorite songs!
A lot of his chords are variants of major chords.
Basically Am, F, C, G repeat. But he keeps the low E open on his F chord, and his C is more of a C/G (love that chord) and the occasional hammer on the Am 7th is subtle yet seemless.

The most emotional song i have ever heard. Simple. It's raw power. Thanks for bringing us something real.
oh lord, i love him so much! love the way he looks, love his voice! he is so magically full of emotions, his eyes closed, his body moves as the music blows... this man is kinda god to me
This performance just kept getting better and better towards the end. Left me speechless.
If you want to make it easy, just play Am, F, C, G
:)
I love how he puts so much emotion into it,you can tell he really feels it, it's amazing :)
impossível não amar esse homem, sua voz e alma são realmente especiais 😍😍
I worship the ground he walks on. love the voice love all his songs. He 's the greatest singer song writer I have ever heard . give us more Damien.
Stripped down to just voice and guitar this still sounds amazing.
Damien Rice is so amazing! Definitely on of my favorite musicians ever. I seriously feel like his music is infallible.
true blood sent me here. i'll never regret watching :)
16 years have passed, but every time it touches every string in the soul.
the chords are x02210, x33210, 332010, 320013. I play this lots and these chords work, and if you use hammer ons like he does it sounds perfect

Dang ,He has talent up the Yin Yang !!!! I love the way he sings the song in this version.
Can't beat a no bull, worn acoustic guitar. It even has a hole in it. Respect!

What s your the rythme????
Buena la canción ... excelente
i love the version with Lisa but when he does it by himself it somehow seems more sincere.... I LOVE this song!!
That type of ending takes serious talent for one person alone. You have to admit.

Good stuff man!! Joey Vaughan "World Blues Attack"
This man is a genius.
that man is a god.
great vid
True blood gave me this song a while back. I was in my bed stoned and trippin at the end of the episode and this came on and just wow
S3E4
If anyone wants to know haha
awesome guitar
I love how he sings his part an octave higher than the original. The "is that allright?" part is pretty high for a guy.
Graytune The trick is, he’s sitting on a cucumber.
He reminds me a lot of Glen Hansard, the way he builds in hi songs, the voice... even the way he looks.
