Enjoying your fine work, I have four like yours ahead of me. Glide king recommends , as you did , separating the dog legs to inner and outer, install each separately, coat the inside and fit using the door ad a delineator with the outside door skin.

That seam sealer worked great for me. Got same brand in a tube and was horrible to work with.
