I know exactly where you are in this video, I have had many fun days fishing this area. The best fishing is a long walk in, but well worth the effort. My days on this stream I have never seen another fishermen. Lots of brown's, rainbows, and further upstream you'll find brookies. Beautiful part of the smokies, let's say we keep it a secret. Enjoyed watching. 👍
I totally agree. Definitely a special place and worth the extra effort to hike further back in there. Can’t wait to go and explore more of the area. Thanks so much for watching!
I think it ultimately depends on your experience level and what you’re looking for. That’s one of the great things about the Smokies and surrounding areas. If just starting out, then you may want to look for some delayed harvest or similar stocked streams outside the park to get a feel for casting and have some success before starting to fish the park. These can be super fun and offer good success-a great way to get hooked on the sport. Alternatively, some of the lower elevation, bigger streams will offer more room for casting and will be more forgiving. I would say save some of the smaller streams with tight cover until you get a good feel for casting, managing your line, etc. it could be pretty frustrating fighting with the rhododendron and tree coverage until you get a feel for it. I would recommend visiting some fly shops on your side of the park as they would be a great resource and can point you in the right direction. Thanks for watching and I hope you find success!
@@ColbertOutdoors thanks for the long response! I have 0 experience level with fishing so I think I’ll start out by going to a bait shop and asking about fly fishing
Theres some pigs up in that area. Hooked one, one time that snapped 5x like nothing. On for about three seconds. Sucked in a Tennessee wulff. Mid 90’s.
That’s so cool. I love that there is at least the opportunity to run across some bigger fish in such a small stream. Very cool place! Thanks for watching!
I’ve fished about a mile to a mile and a half of that creek with a little luck but not as good as I was expecting it would be. I’ll have to walk in further next time before I start. Did you see a lot of damage from Helene?
I thought everything looked generally good despite Helene. I was pleasantly surprised as I had not been into this side of the Smokies since the hurricane. Thanks so much for taking time to watch!
@ My sister in law is looking for a Christmas gift for her husband and is considering a GoPro for filming some fishing videos as well as other activities. I think your videos are to notch and any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.
A GoPro would be an awesome gift-I bet he would love that. I currently have an older model but have found it to be plenty good and have not found the need to upgrade over the last few years. I currently have a GoPro hero 9 black and have loved it. One little trick to get more out of the GoPro is that you can buy different lenses for it just like a traditional camera. For example, I commonly add a polarizing lens to mine to cut down on glare from the water and it also gives more vibrant color when filming. The only downside is that the aftermarket lens is not waterproof so you have to make sure and use the stock GoPro lens for any underwater shots. Hope this helps at least a little bit!
@@ColbertOutdoors Thanks for responding. I was trying to help her pick and recommended the GoPro 12 or 13 based on what I had read about them. I’ll pass on the info.
Thanks so much for watching and for the offer! I agree with you-I love hiking and exploring these mountains. They’re one of my favorite places. Wish I lived closer where I could make it happen more often! Tight lines!
I can agree with you to a point on that. Do I “need” a net? Maybe not. However, I choose to use one because it allows me to handle the fish less, especially when filming, which can slow everything down a bit. The net allows me to handle the fish less and hopefully keep them in the water as much as possible. It hopefully allows me to get the footage I need while also still handling them safely. Hope that helps give a different perspective!
Nothing like having a Colbert video to watch on a Sunday morning with my coffee
I love it. Thanks as always for taking time to watch!
Great video Colbert I really enjoy it. To me, there's nothing like fishing in the smokes. Love that place......👍🤙
Thank you! There's really no place like it. Such a special place. Thanks for taking time to watch!
Always enjoy your videos. It takes a lot of effort to produce these and I really appreciate it. Thanks
Thanks so much for the kind words and for taking time to watch. Very much appreciated!
Good video. I miss fishing the smokies.
Thank you. They are a special place, that’s for sure. Thanks for taking time to watch!
Looked like you walked right past a monster deer rub on your way to the first spot!🦌
Haha I didn't even notice. I think I was too busy trying not to get my rods tangled in the rhododendron. Thanks for watching!
great video

Deep Creek??
I live in Knoxville so not to far from the smokes at all. Where should I go to start flyfishing?
Love the video as well!

I live just north of the national park in Sevierville TN. If you ever need a fishing buddy let me know…I love to hike these hills and fly fish. lol

Don't need a net with a 7 oz fish. Crazy.
