  • Back in early March this year - I received an exciting message out of the blue from my friend David (aka “Cousin Dave”) asking if I would like to do a coast to coast ride with him.
His idea was to do the “Way of the Roses” route which is a 170 mile sign-posted route from Morecambe bay on the west coast to Bridlington on the east coast. David had done this same ride 2 years earlier and I had really been keen to do it myself one day. The plan was to do the ride over 3 days from Friday morning until Sunday afternoon in late June with two overnight stops in hotels, carrying everything we needed on our bikes.

"After a few miles the track began to get dramatically more rustic!" I nearly fell off my chair with laughter when you said this! Rustic? Well that's one word for it! LOL

Hi Gareth…I’ve recently subscribed to your channel and I’ve been seeing some crackin posts and I’m currently picking up on all ur historic posts.
I’ve got WotR C2C booked in for next year 24 so I’ve been watching many a video.
Im from Nth England so the route is familiar and I’ve done one or the other C2Cs before on a bike which was a variation of Wainwrights from St Abbas to Robin Hoods Bay. I did it in the 2001 Foot n Mouth outbreak so my passage over and into the dales from Cumbria was as interesting as your detour from Settle. Propa bio controls so apart from dipping my wheels into the Irish Sea at St Abbs I had to dip both my wheels n cycling shoes in many a bath of disinfectant all along the route.
Anyways…cracking vid Gareth. How bloody lucky you were to get your wallet back…those Kent lads Wouk’s have had an open tab on me even though I’m a tight yorksha man.
As for Dave….I’d have ditched him after 16miles…bloody nightmare…lol
Bet he was glad you got ur wallet back and for not helping you over those fences with your bike….shocking…lol
Anyways keep posting as I’ve still got a lot to catch up on and….Merry Christmas here’s to 2024 adventures.
    Ron

Enjoyed watching this. Doing the coast to coast with my dad next week. Feel slightly better that my hybrid has quite thick tyres as some of them paths look rough. Nice vid mate.

Great video! If you were to do this again would you use your hard tail again or a road bike?

I think I would use my gravel bike - but there are route options that are totally road bike friendly.

What are the odds of meeting the people who found your wallet in the same pub at the same time? Astronomical, must be at least 250-1.

Ha ha. Yes. Could hardly believe my ears. Had to phone my wife quickly to stop her from cancelling all my cards.
