I remember when I first learned about letters in math. It was on the school bus. I was 9 years old, and the nerdiest kid on the bus (one year younger) was practicing algebra in his notebook. I asked him and he told me what it was. 🎉 Yesssssss!!!!! It was like I just got a superpower! Letters as numbers made perfect sense to me - it solved so many problems I was having - trying to describe my questions about the universe!
the first time i saw letter was when i was in elementary school. I had a little bit of advance and the teacher tryed to humble me. which they managed because i wasn't prepared to the concept of something that have the value that you want, or a mystery value. For me everything was set from the start and not knowing the value of something was not possible. The second time i confronted it was when uperclassman tryed to ditch their math problems at me, and somehow it made more sense to me, even tho i still had trouble, from playing around with basic operation (like putting a term to the other side of the equal sign) i managed to solve it. Unfortunately, my stupid brain don't want to be that smart everyday. I'm more of a tester than a thinker in the end.
I remember seeing that video in my recommended and just getting very sad. The way he describes his math experience goes from disappointed to vindictive past a certain point (I’d say by trig). It sucks to see content like that being spread in a format that will attract younger kids and discourage them from getting invested in learning the language of marh
