To everyone who is commenting because of my criticism of Angel Dust, I do not mean to insult you personally if you found meaning in the characters arc because of your struggles I am merely stating my reaction. If you relate to Angel Dust or the character means a lot to you I am happy for you and sorry if I upset you.
I feel for them as well, but relating to Angel Dust and liking those scenes doesn’t mean they’re absolved from criticism. There are definitely issues with how his arc is handled in the show, and they aren’t erased because people like aspects of his character journey. Plenty of people look to fiction to offer them solace, but I wouldn’t hold back on criticizing any other show solely based off of its depictions of heavy subject matter. There’d be no reason to criticize something like 13 Reasons Why in that case, and a world where I can’t shit on that god awful show just because people related to its depictions of suicide, substance abuse, grape, etc. is a world I’d rather not live in.

They way Bluey, a show for literal toddlers feels more mature and can handle its subject matter with care whereas a show supposedly for adults is poorly written and horrible at handling dark subject matter is crazyyyy
i personally dont mind the show, but somebody explain how when angel gets sexually harrased, it gets its own episode and its a serious issue, but 2 EPISODES LATER sir pentious gets sexually harassed and its a "joke". people are saying that it was sir pentious's fault, but what happened to angel also was technically his fault too as he literally sold his soul..
They are different situations tho. Angel is contractually obliged to do whatever his mentally, physically and sekually abusive boss tells him. He's over here getting beaten and graped, crying, and struggling with substance abuse...Sir Pentious just mistakenly proclaimed he was gonna bang everyone in the club and the crowd obliged lol Not saying its not messy to have SA be serious in one shot and a gag in the next but I don't think it was terrible. He buys drinks and shots for everyone in the club so when he says he’s going to have sex with the whole club, they gladly jump on his offer. He kind of brought that on himself by saying that he was going to have sex with everyone in a sex club
Beside what everybody said here this is a kind of show that's all over the place and has a "dark humour" and it does question its own jokes and make them a dipper meaning in forward episodes (you can see this better in helluva boss)

Stephanie Beatriz is an outstanding voice actor, her performance in hazbin hotel was a product of bad direction and songs that weren't made for her vocal range.
I agree. I feel like it was a lot of "Okay here's this plot line, now here's another!" and then they just dropped the other plot line. It feels like an outline of a show to be honest.
FINALLY SOMEONE AGREES WITH ME. I feel like the character designs and the whole premise of the show would be something I came up with when I was 7 years old. The character designs make absolutely no sense -- they don't tell you anything really about what kind of character it is, because they are pretty much all wearing red and black and white. (you could say that's just because they're all "evil" but it's really not helping me care about the characters or distinguish between them) The storyline and the pacing are all over the place and it feels VERY messy, and my least favorite part of the show is that it can't go half a minute without a curse word lol it feels extremely immature for what's supposed to be an adult show

I have a multitude of issues with the show thus far, many of which you addressed, but I think the inconsistency in tone, the show's habit of favouring side characters over the main cast, and the way it constantly splits characters apart are the worst of them. I think the last problem is the most severe for me - the characters have dynamics that I greatly enjoy, but I feel like those dynamics are only half as fun when even a single member of the main cast isn't present to add to them, yet the show constantly insists on separating them - it's like the writers are insecure about their cast even though their interactions as a group is, in my eyes, the show's greatest strength.
Oh yeah and you wanna talk about tone deaf? Just wait until you see the ending where they build up Sir Pencious like he’s about to be a hero and fight for everyone and he gets killed in a millisecond before he even gets to do anything, in a super comedic way no less. Then they cut to Charlie and everyone crying in a super dramatic way with sad music playing. I know it’s a cartoon but it doesn’t know when to be sad and when to be funny without mixing them.The whole scene undermines the point of the show too because it’s supposed to be about bettering yourself. Sir Pencious starts off as a horrible inventor but at the climax of the show when they’re all preparing for war, there’s a montage, that’s right an entire freaking MONTAGE of Sir Pencious building and training for war but still somehow gets killed by just Adam alone in literally less than a second.

UNTIL they got to the BDSM club and made a joke about Sir Pentious getting rapes by being dragged by his tail by some of the attendents and joking about it and not listening for his cries for them to stop. How are you going to say "oh this is bad because it happened to our main charecter" but then turn around and be like "well Pentious is the awkward new guy! Rape jokes are funny if we do it to him!! There's alot of issues but two I have is it's barely adult such as with that Rubber Duck moment cause that's not for the specific show it is supposed to be and the voices are so painful and make it so impossible to listen, they are dry, not as enthusiastic to seem like they are people and just robotic in so many moments, the old cast are much better & natural especially with that Farewell Song that many took part in, they have the life, enthusiasm & energy that the new cast dont and is a reason why I cant watch this show.
The problem is it isn't a kids cartoon. But the fandom of the series consists of minors who doesn't have full understanding of s*x or romantic relationship. And the last part is messed up.
I’m so glad I had no idea about the show until it came out on Amazon because I had no expectations and thought it was great. The only thing I’m mad about is Amazon is the richest company in the world and couldn’t even reanimate or touch up the original online pilot from 5 years ago because I had no idea what was going on when I put on the “first” episode. They assumed everybody who would watch was a previous fan and already in the know but isn’t the entire point to get more viewers so they can make money?
There is many more viewers because all fans watched the show when it come out and now all people who are keeping the show in the top 10 are generally new, and Amazon did a good choice investing in this show
I really wanted to like Hazbin Hotel, I really tried to like it, but from its rushed story, to it ‘HAHA SWEARING IS FUNNY’ humor and it’s mediocre and overly detailed and overly red design and atmosphere, it’s just at worth it.
It's sad because I honestly think this show has some unique and interesting ideas. But the development of these ideas is done so poorly that it ruins the show in so many ways.
It's called liberalism and anti-individualism. Everyone is supposed to think the same and that's that. a whole Nineteen Eighty-Four dynamic. Listen to Big Brother.

In my opinion the main problem is the how some of the fanbase could make the show worse. Like most people act like they like the show because of the hype showed from other fans. This causes a lot of random posts like “my favorite song of hazbin hotel” which kind of pisses me off
Gotta say overall I don’t agree with your review but main points I disagree with are that is that the more serious themes are explored in previous episodes, it’s true it’s not the main point of the episodes but it shows such as angel dusts pimp messages to him and how trapped he feels and how after snake guy comes in he’s feels pushed out by the people he has started to considered friends, were the SA scenes unesscary? Maybe but it does show how violent his life truly is, I will say im surprised you never brought up how rushed the show feels because I do agree that it feels rushed maybe because of the episodes number but who knows, overall I love the show but I can tell it’s got it’s flaws but I wouldn’t call it a complete mess
the biggest thing I've yet to see ppl talk about is the warning specifically not adding in rape. In one of the scenes you can see val and angel having intercourse though we all know angel is not consenting, he is being forced and or coerced into it which is rape. this is my BIGGEST complaint so far because they specifically didn't add the warning for whatever the reason they should still be held accountable, as I was enjoying the show I was only prepared for sexual assault scenes but then was very surprised by the clip of angel being raped on screen even if it was only a few seconds. it was pretty traumatizing without any warnings.

you just got me to subscribe, wow this was so refreshing to see someone talk about this with fluidity, I completely agree with you and its sad a lot of ppl are not willing to actually look at the back bone of this story. the only thing that's nice about it is the colors and the animation and most of the character designs. ppl are so willing to eat some half baked stuff as long as it looks nice. I dont see the hype every character in the show except angel were so bland they didnt really have anything that made me gravitate towards there character most of the characters were just there basically they spent more time focusing on unnecessary characters like vox even alastor one of the main characters doesnt contribute anything to the story the only thing he did was introduce charlie to rosie everything else wasnt necessary he even says he doesnt care about the hotel in the first episode i dont like how they basically glossed over the fact husk was an overlord all he did was tell angel he was an overlord and that was it and lets not forget the songs they only have like maybe 2 good songs everyone was like the song is a bop it was stuck in my head i dont see it stayed gone has been blowing up recently but i while heartedly dont see the hype the song is mid at best and they literally switched the plot which was really confusing the worst of it all the ending the ending sucked it was so anticimatic i wasnt really at the edge of my seat with anticipation it only lasted like 10 minutes at least and of course they got bailed out by lucifer the only thing that kinda surprised me was sir pentious but his death was for plot it was so boring i wouldn't watch it again the thing that really doesn't make since is the hotel charlue created the hotel to rehabilitate sinners but it doesn't even matter because like it was shown at the end of the season you have to die to go to heaven if you are rehabilitated so the whole plot of the show is essentially meaningless sir pentious got rehabilitated but it wasnt charlie or the hotel he was the one who stood up to adam so everything charlie teaches at the hotel and the hotel itself doesnt matter my suggestion watch helluva boss you would feel better 6/10
Yeah I wish for the female Exorcist Angels (subgroup of dead humans that went to heaven and work under Adam) the show would have explicitly told the audience early on that the head area was a horned LED mask instead of finding out through a random livestream that its a job uniform. Even with the outlines in Episode 1 showing 6 wing seraphim angels, you don't see until Episode 6 what any heaven born angels or any "winners" (what they consider the oposite of sinners) actually look like. The only main difference from the appearance you have when you die as a sinner or a winner is sinners have more demonic forms and 1 feature you will hate for eternity, and the winners seem to like everything about their appearance and have lighter and brighter colors.

1. Gimmicks: Yeah I agree with the characters having no depth. They all seem like stereotypes pasted down and nothing beyond that to me. 2. Plot: It's poorly written so far, and I'm well aware of that. Everything is predictable and the plot seems like something I'd write at 12, which is kind of sus if you ask me. 3. Songs: I love the songs so much, they're honestly some of the catchiest I've heard all year and it blows me away how great they are. As for Stephanie Beatriz, I think she's a good voice actor, but she isn't the right person to be singing for a lower-voiced character like Vaggie. 4. Side characters: Agreed. 5. R*pe: No opinion here. Despite agreeing with most of your points, I'm still obsessed with this show and I'm not going to let these flaws drag my enjoyment down. The art style / colour scheme is very beautiful to me, and I am interested to see where Vivzie will take this.

War or redemption pick one🙃. -why does what husks says about the some characters not reflect in their actions? Charlie lets people deal with her problems or lets them help solve it with her. - suddenly angel is trying to be a better person ?? Did this happen off screen ? -Does Charlie know why heaven is killing them or not? ( I’m genuinely confused) 2. Lack of build up -we don’t even know Carmella and her daughters personally and we are supposed to care about them? -When did Vaggie have relationship problems with Charlie? the comes out of nowhere. -angel dusts sudden redemption (again) and how we are supposed to to care he’s going back to his old ways. 3.Pacing -You’re telling me time pasted by that quick? -we are just getting used to these characters they seriously need to slow down 🙏 4. Like what? Yes Charlie is a princess but that doesn't mean she can control their thinking as she wants. She was so judging than understanding. they like to be what they want and Charlie sounds so stupid she sounded like she didn't know they were cannibals. - The demons only sang about their natural nature as cannibals, which is their everyday reality. - But Charlie wanted to dictate to them how to limit their speech according to her taste. - At the same time, she clearly did not understand that for them, being a cannibal is their identity, which they are proud of. - Her rebuke seemed arrogant and she didn't understand their situation Lol she is selfish she maybe gives a second chances but still make others feel not important did you see how Angel felt?! Charlia's words about Alastor in contrast to her father Lucifer were unempathetic and over the top. Even if she didn't know his true motives, she had no right to judge and compare him like that. - Lucifer wanted to protect her from danger, even if Charlie didn't know it. - He was struggling with his own problems and depression and it might have been too psychologically taxing to help her. - Alastor is a manipulator, his help was with a selfish intention, which she didn't notice, but she still knows Alastor's personality a little - She didn't take into account her father's emotional state and problems, she only focused on her own goals. (only then did she gave a chance to him, but she still judged him and didn't give him a chance at the beggining). Her words were inappropriate and showed her lack of empathy towards her own family. It was really over the line and out of line. She almost never apologized only some times but that's all.

It was trash. 2019 show was fun but this show is the ultimate lie. Amazon and A24 were bad. It lies to people who cannot do well and the last episode copied Avengers Endgame and Harry Potter part 2 final movie for a terrible final fight. The snake demon going to heaven is stupid and a cheat.
Had to watch all 8 episodes to let it help me move on from Hollywood when it was not right. Show did not do well. There are some fun things in it. It felt too rushed and the storyline felt so simplified.
God Bow was far superior to that hack show which is making Heaven the villain and giving us a dumb evil angel who is Adam the man of Eden. The show was made to hurt men and all of human kind. I was very angry with episode eight the most. Instead of a stupid war, we could have seen a presentation of the demons trying to improve on that execution day to stop angels so that one of demons could have gone away from hell redeemed and able after months of trying. But no, we get a bland fight. The fight was super weak and God Bow which I made easily destroys show. As a maker I cannot stand how a fun show like Hazbin Hotel became just a sham and lied to ruin good, redemption, and care.
My movie God Bow made Hollywood and this show look weak. For ages Hollywood made black people have to rely on same trash movie ideas with ghetto, old south slavery, slavery, self abuse, and dull journeys to make other cultures feel better. God Bow was made to help out and be fun, not a sham to attack heaven to make Adam into a complete mess for men and humans.
Surely, instead of claiming this shows injecting ‘rape scenes’ into a ‘stupid kids comedy’, it makes far more sense to say the shows taking fundamental character traits, that practically any character has at the start of a new show, and is contextualising their behaviour by showing how and why they have become who they are. And for Angel, a facade. You can claim its tonal whiplash however much, but the scene with Angel and Val before the song creates a tone that is supposed to be scary to really cement the supposed ‘lavish’ life Angel lives with the backbone that he is much more deep as a character than it seems on the surface, which the song shows by this. Opinions are opinions I completely get it. But fundamental writing like this cant be overlooked, even if not everyone might enjoy it.

After seeing the sitch for myself, I have no faith that the creators and any other related projects to Hazbin Hotel can ever deliver something great. Season 2 will no doubt go on to be the same thing in terms of quality and lengths. The creators are just very unprofessional, they don't know the craft or finesse that goes into story telling and creation. The entire story as is feels like a first draft and as if they're winging it with each episode, even if they were confined to 8 episodes that was no excuse to be sloppy or have it rushed. They could have introduced less characters, advanced the plot less, and not use the bigger elements of the story in their first season, but its obvious they chose the latter. It would have been better had they created a slice of the story for their first season rather than trying to fit a cake on a small plate. Then also reduced the musicals to 1 per episodes as I bet during the writing process they had to go out of their way just to squeeze in some of them and the structures of the episodes suffered because of that. Actually no musicals at all unless they're for main characters, why on earth did they gave side characters screen time? I don't even know what to make of it all, there was no cohesion or tension anywhere to be found and the story just fell flat. If there's one thing to point out is that very little is actually established, for one let your characters organically exist away from the plot or whatever it is that they do, but that isn't possible is because how fast paced the story is you need time for the foundation and cement to settle in. The animators did an amazing job, but no amount of pretty visuals can salvage a bad story.

If it's a musical, but all the songs are just a character telling you what they're all about, that's usually an indication that you've encountered some bad writing.

This whole time watching that I just couldn’t help but think she didn’t pay much attention to what was going on beyond the surface-level inspirations she could write a RUclips script about. It’s hinted that Angel is deeper than sex jokes in at least Ep3 if not 2, and the show’s also kinda being forced to fit a season’s worth of stuff into 8 episodes so there’s bound to be some pacing issues Some valid criticism in here but man watching the episodes with a bit more depth would have solved like 80% of the things you claim are wrong with the show. “Inspiration” and “stolen scripts just with the fuck word added” are totally different ideas and I’m pretty sure it’s the former and not the latter as you suggest
I personally agree even though I have yet to watch this series (I will after sending this comment). I didn't trust Vivzie to make a show about a demon princess any good ever since Helluva Boss started going sour for me. Edit: Also, if I may add. After reading the comments I can see a shit ton of people getting upset with Bardic and all I can say is Jesus Christ. People can have opinions. I have never and I mean NEVER seen ANYONE who think this show is mid, including myself (I think it's amazing) People either think it's absolutely awful or a gift from the heavens.
You weren't even that scathing in this review, but I understand how rabid the fanbase can be for this series. You make some good points, for the most part Hazbin Hotel is a pretty shallow, very mediocre albeit flashy show with some alright songs. From a writing perspective it suffers greatly, something that definitely feels grazed over in favor for these big dramatic emotional scenes that have no set up and no followup. Generally in song form is how we "know" the character has went through some change. The worldbuilding is very nonsensical and the pacing is far too fast. The way it handles heavy subject matter that just does seemingly come out of nowhere is poor too. The humor is usually a dud and I dislike how paper thin every character seems to be. There is many things that could be good in the series, but Hazbin Hotel isn't really interested in telling a great story. It wants just to do enough in terms of jokes, flashy musical numbers and maybe some emotional tear-jerky scenes. It's basically the McDonalds of animation, most people will eat it and think it's decent enough, but it's far from gourmet.

Some of my points on why I am not as crazy about this show as I once was: -Not loving the angels design being like "pastel colored winged demon" aka: Adam -some voice actor changes suck ( this isnt like a big gripe but imo i miss cherri bomb and husk's old voice) - some character designs are just weird looking in a bad design way like Vox looks very similar to Alastor and Lucifer in terms of attire and the tv head thing is just idk not the best - Plot is kind of turning for the worse so far. Pilot had great ideas, show is not really expanding upon them as we thought which might be bad later on -Lucifer's personality, in regard to the new episode, kinda threw me off. I definitely think they missed the bar with giving him an iconic personality.

Two things. I may not be into any of Vivziepop’s stuff, but I prefer the designs and voice actors from Hazbin Hotel’s pilot as opposed to what we got from the series. What adult animated series would you recommend we watch instead of Hazbin Hotel?
vox machina !!! (I dunno if I spelt it right) I loved watching this show. It is also on prime video. It is very funny and entertaining. Just a warning.. there is s*x and nudity.
Ngl animation was solid, storyline in my opinion is so simple and boring, and another factor that brings the rating down are the fans, they meat ride so hard and hype it up so much more than what it is to the point where they just make the show even worse. Solid 6.5/10 in my opinion. Edit : Not to mention they’re is literally jokes about raping and rumors that the one guy was a racist and killed black kids and men… that whole story should sum up why this show is horrible.

I respect your view but as a Christian I don't see it taking any jabs as Christianity or any religion. Actually it's about 2 Christian values, forgiveness and redemption just from the perspective of the sinner(s) in hell. Thats just my point of view as a Christian fan of the show.
tbh i liked it when i watched it.. at first 😭 it's very "adult", but like.. in a bad way. it's just too much. it's giving jojo siwa, where it's trying wayyy too hard to be mature, to the point where it's then immature. then there's.. the whole angel dust/grape/that thing issue.. yeah and also it's just generally cringey. it's like it's constantly stuck in a "it's the exposition so just explain everything instead of showing it" and also some of the dialogue is just.. like omg that was written by an actual person wtf ??? 😭😭 there's more stuff, but those are my main gripes

I think one of the main design issues in the show was the demon's masks. Once they came off i started "connecting" and giving a ****** about them on screen.
I appreciate your bravery, the show is 3/4 of the way done, so I think the criticism of you not waiting till it's over to give a review is pretty unfounded, it's had its shot, I'm sure season 2 will probably be greenlit considering how much Prime is promoting the show, but it's had adequate time to set its foundation. The Hazbin fanbase is one of the more...ahem... active fanbases that I've been in, they're very VERY protective of their IPs, so I applaud you for having the balls to tread those waters. Personally I hate people who are so obsessed with an IP or franchise that it can do no wrongs in their eyes, but I also hate people who are contrarian for the sake of being contrary to the mass audience so I'll reserve my opinion for when I sit down to watch your video (on the run rn). As I've said of jujutsu kaisen. In a sea of mediocrity there's nothing wrong with being mid. It's a fun show from what seems to be a indy studio, why do people expect it to be a masterpiece? It has flaws and that's okay Bottom line is I had more fun watching this then I did anything disney/marvel/starwars has made in the past few years.
So many people have trouble understanding why some people find the Angel Dust stuff tone deaf. I literally had a person try to tell me that death of the author isn't a thing and you have to come in unbiased regardless of if you are uncomfortable. Accused everyone eho disagreed as having a ton of media illiteracy. So I just pointed out that by calling others interpretations "wrong." (Side note: they seemed to have deleted a comment in which they literally said something along the lines of "no your wrong." To someone else.) They were showing their own bias and that you technically cannot remove bias from any opinion piece, that's why its an opinion.
Vivzie likes sharp teeth so she uses them a lot but have you noticed how much detail she puts into other elements of character design? I mean for instance Vox has Wi-Fi signals on his suit and hat. Besides I don't think bright colors are that big of a deal since you get used to them as you watch the show and they can often make a character design much more lively and unique looking :D

I liked watching the show personally but I have to agree, the songs are awesome but the scenes between them made me a bit bored and confused and that is problably mainly because of the fast pacing and the lack of development in characters. So Angel, Husk and Sir Pentious still want to stay in the hotel in the finale but why? There isn't that much of a development to make them want to stay in the hotel. We can see in the pilot that they only stay there for their on purposes but a few episodes later they suddenly like each other and want to stay for each other. When did that happen?? I just hope they improve it when making the second season
I can understand that this show isnt for everyone. Personally i really injoyed the show but that only because i really like the characters. I will say though that 5 and 6 is a massive improvement from the first 4 episodes and that episode 6 does explain heaven alot more and shows that not all angels act like adam. Episode 5 is by far the best episode thought and it not even close. Episode 5 also have much better pacing compared to the rest of the show which even ill admit this show has bad pacing (thats a problem they couldnt really fix with so many characters in a only 8 episode season). There us like a 4-5 month tune skip between episode 4-5 and i was confused as fk and they pass off like it normal and nothing had changed besides the fact the extermination is a month away, but yea this show is definitely a love it or hate it kinda show. The music is honestly what carries the show for me though

I hear what youre saying but angel dust being abused has been a thing since the pilot, we specifically see this with the song "addict" which is actually cannon as they talked about val having trouble counting 3 bills in ep 4 the angel dust thing wasnt random it was planned from the beginning. Not discrediting your opinion just wanted to clear some stuff up (hope this helps)
The problem here is that anyone casually watching won't have seen the pilot because it's not on amazon prime. They'd need to have this prior knowledge from elsewhere. All the important information, world building and setup for the show should be present WITHIN the show.

I feel a bit bipolar about Hazbin. I went into it blind and liked it a ton but after watching it a lot (as well as Helluva Boss), Hazbin just became very unappealing from a story perspective. I agree that the characters are pretty one-dimensional and that the storytelling is a hot mess of tone deaf + poorly paced + too many characters + WAY too obvious foreshadowing. Viv also has issues with properly demonstrating power dynamics in any show she makes. I still like half the songs and the world that was made but now I am much more a fan of the fan works than Viv's actual creations. I feel like the community brings the show to life far better than Viv does.
I love Helluva Boss but honestly it's not much better. The story is disjointed and if Bard doesn't like random cursing then that one is even worse. You get introduced to tons of characters that you quickly forget about because they are still gimmicky and only come back half the time for a quick couple lines usually. Not to mention how slowly each season is produced. I do recommend it if Bard is interested in learning more about the Helliverse which has a lot of interesting usage of different theological entities. It's a lot of fun to see how Viv represents the different demons and how she puts a lot of symbolism into character and setting designs.
As someone who grew up with the 2000s era of edgy humor cartoons, it was a breath of fresh air to see this kind of thing again. But, it was very disappointing to say the least; because the plot pacing needed a lot of polishing. It did seem very undercooked as a work of art.
@@bardicinspiration66 Even Invader Zim and The Amazing World of Gumball had WAY edgier humor than Hazbin Hotel, despite the former two being kids' shows and the latter being an adult show. These two shows also know how to blend together cynical dark comedy with random yet wholesome humor perfectly well without overshadowing one another, in my opinion.

As time went on they merged more into one being. Heck, some people even believe Beelzebub and Asmodeous are also Lucifer. Mythology and religion has no one correct rule.
I did enjoy the show watched the entire 8 episodes but it can see how you can criticise it. I agree if you want to make a show about someone stuck in the porn industry it shouldn’t be a comedy. I agree there’s too many main characters. I think Vivian had some good ideas but she packed too many topics into season one personally my favourite parts involved overlords so I think they should have been the main focus on season one but the main issue with this show is that it’s got so many ideas and things going on it forgets about the hotel and the point of it.

I don’t know about the lore of this show, but in Christianity Lucifer and Satan are the same dude. Also you can have a character fall into an archetype and explore them later, but they need to do more than just be a gimmick

To everyone who is commenting because of my criticism of Angel Dust, I do not mean to insult you personally if you found meaning in the characters arc because of your struggles I am merely stating my reaction. If you relate to Angel Dust or the character means a lot to you I am happy for you and sorry if I upset you.
I feel for them as well, but relating to Angel Dust and liking those scenes doesn’t mean they’re absolved from criticism. There are definitely issues with how his arc is handled in the show, and they aren’t erased because people like aspects of his character journey. Plenty of people look to fiction to offer them solace, but I wouldn’t hold back on criticizing any other show solely based off of its depictions of heavy subject matter.
There’d be no reason to criticize something like 13 Reasons Why in that case, and a world where I can’t shit on that god awful show just because people related to its depictions of suicide, substance abuse, grape, etc. is a world I’d rather not live in.

I agree. I feel like it was a lot of "Okay here's this plot line, now here's another!" and then they just dropped the other plot line. It feels like an outline of a show to be honest.
FINALLY SOMEONE AGREES WITH ME. I feel like the character designs and the whole premise of the show would be something I came up with when I was 7 years old. The character designs make absolutely no sense -- they don't tell you anything really about what kind of character it is, because they are pretty much all wearing red and black and white. (you could say that's just because they're all "evil" but it's really not helping me care about the characters or distinguish between them)
The storyline and the pacing are all over the place and it feels VERY messy, and my least favorite part of the show is that it can't go half a minute without a curse word lol it feels extremely immature for what's supposed to be an adult show

I have a multitude of issues with the show thus far, many of which you addressed, but I think the inconsistency in tone, the show's habit of favouring side characters over the main cast, and the way it constantly splits characters apart are the worst of them. I think the last problem is the most severe for me - the characters have dynamics that I greatly enjoy, but I feel like those dynamics are only half as fun when even a single member of the main cast isn't present to add to them, yet the show constantly insists on separating them - it's like the writers are insecure about their cast even though their interactions as a group is, in my eyes, the show's greatest strength.

Oh yeah and you wanna talk about tone deaf? Just wait until you see the ending where they build up Sir Pencious like he’s about to be a hero and fight for everyone and he gets killed in a millisecond before he even gets to do anything, in a super comedic way no less. Then they cut to Charlie and everyone crying in a super dramatic way with sad music playing. I know it’s a cartoon but it doesn’t know when to be sad and when to be funny without mixing them.The whole scene undermines the point of the show too because it’s supposed to be about bettering yourself. Sir Pencious starts off as a horrible inventor but at the climax of the show when they’re all preparing for war, there’s a montage, that’s right an entire freaking MONTAGE of Sir Pencious building and training for war but still somehow gets killed by just Adam alone in literally less than a second.

There's alot of issues but two I have is it's barely adult such as with that Rubber Duck moment cause that's not for the specific show it is supposed to be and the voices are so painful and make it so impossible to listen, they are dry, not as enthusiastic to seem like they are people and just robotic in so many moments, the old cast are much better & natural especially with that Farewell Song that many took part in, they have the life, enthusiasm & energy that the new cast dont and is a reason why I cant watch this show.

I’m so glad I had no idea about the show until it came out on Amazon because I had no expectations and thought it was great. The only thing I’m mad about is Amazon is the richest company in the world and couldn’t even reanimate or touch up the original online pilot from 5 years ago because I had no idea what was going on when I put on the “first” episode. They assumed everybody who would watch was a previous fan and already in the know but isn’t the entire point to get more viewers so they can make money?

I really wanted to like Hazbin Hotel, I really tried to like it, but from its rushed story, to it ‘HAHA SWEARING IS FUNNY’ humor and it’s mediocre and overly detailed and overly red design and atmosphere, it’s just at worth it.

Gotta say overall I don’t agree with your review but main points I disagree with are that is that the more serious themes are explored in previous episodes, it’s true it’s not the main point of the episodes but it shows such as angel dusts pimp messages to him and how trapped he feels and how after snake guy comes in he’s feels pushed out by the people he has started to considered friends, were the SA scenes unesscary? the biggest thing I've yet to see ppl talk about is the warning specifically not adding in rape. In one of the scenes you can see val and angel having intercourse though we all know angel is not consenting, he is being forced and or coerced into it which is rape. this is my BIGGEST complaint so far because they specifically didn't add the warning for whatever the reason they should still be held accountable, as I was enjoying the show I was only prepared for sexual assault scenes but then was very surprised by the clip of angel being raped on screen even if it was only a few seconds. it was pretty traumatizing without any warnings.

I dont see the hype every character in the show except angel were so bland they didnt really have anything that made me gravitate towards there character most of the characters were just there basically they spent more time focusing on unnecessary characters like vox even alastor one of the main characters doesnt contribute anything to the story the only thing he did was introduce charlie to rosie everything else wasnt necessary he even says he doesnt care about the hotel in the first episode i dont like how they basically glossed over the fact husk was an overlord all he did was tell angel he was an overlord and that was it and lets not forget the songs they only have like maybe 2 good songs everyone was like the song is a bop it was stuck in my head i dont see it stayed gone has been blowing up recently but i while heartedly dont see the hype the song is mid at best and they literally switched the plot which was really confusing the worst of it all the ending the ending sucked it was so anticimatic i wasnt really at the edge of my seat with anticipation it only lasted like 10 minutes at least and of course they got bailed out by lucifer the only thing that kinda surprised me was sir pentious but his death was for plot it was so boring i wouldn't watch it again the thing that really doesn't make since is the hotel charlue created the hotel to rehabilitate sinners but it doesn't even matter because like it was shown at the end of the season you have to die to go to heaven if you are rehabilitated so the whole plot of the show is essentially meaningless sir pentious got rehabilitated but it wasnt charlie or the hotel he was the one who stood up to adam so everything charlie teaches at the hotel and the hotel itself doesnt matter my suggestion watch helluva boss you would feel better 6/10
Yeah I wish for the female Exorcist Angels (subgroup of dead humans that went to heaven and work under Adam) the show would have explicitly told the audience early on that the head area was a horned LED mask instead of finding out through a random livestream that its a job uniform. Even with the outlines in Episode 1 showing 6 wing seraphim angels, you don't see until Episode 6 what any heaven born angels or any "winners" (what they consider the oposite of sinners) actually look like. The only main difference from the appearance you have when you die as a sinner or a winner is sinners have more demonic forms and 1 feature you will hate for eternity, and the winners seem to like everything about their appearance and have lighter and brighter colors.
I was going to leave a serious comment about my own criticisms of the show, but I just think it's hilarious that the Verbalase shıt was brought up less than 15 seconds into the video 😂 we really can't get enough of clowning on that simp can we
Legitimately one of the few things I knew about the show
1. Gimmicks: Yeah I agree with the characters having no depth. They all seem like stereotypes pasted down and nothing beyond that to me.
2. Plot: It's poorly written so far, and I'm well aware of that. Everything is predictable and the plot seems like something I'd write at 12, which is kind of sus if you ask me.
3. Songs: I love the songs so much, they're honestly some of the catchiest I've heard all year and it blows me away how great they are. As for Stephanie Beatriz, I think she's a good voice actor, but she isn't the right person to be singing for a lower-voiced character like Vaggie.
4. Side characters: Agreed.
5. R*pe: No opinion here.
Despite agreeing with most of your points, I'm still obsessed with this show and I'm not going to let these flaws drag my enjoyment down. The art style / colour scheme is very beautiful to me, and I am interested to see where Vivzie will take this.

Alastor literally says he doesn’t believe in the hotel helping sinners ( if we were to take the pilot into account ) then Charlie says that he cares about the hotel then the next episode says that he doesn’t so does he care about it or not?
-What even is the premise of this show atp? War or redemption pick one🙃.
-why does what husks says about the some characters not reflect in their actions? Charlie lets people deal with her problems or lets them help solve it with her.
- suddenly angel is trying to be a better person ?? Did this happen off screen ?
-Does Charlie know why heaven is killing them or not? ( I’m genuinely confused)
2. Lack of build up -we don’t even know Carmella and her daughters personally and we are supposed to care about them?
-When did Vaggie have relationship problems with Charlie? the comes out of nowhere.
-angel dusts sudden redemption (again) and how we are supposed to to care he’s going back to his old ways.

Had to watch all 8 episodes to let it help me move on from Hollywood when it was not right. Show did not do well. There are some fun things in it. It felt too rushed and the storyline felt so simplified.
God Bow was far superior to that hack show which is making Heaven the villain and giving us a dumb evil angel who is Adam the man of Eden. The show was made to hurt men and all of human kind. I was very angry with episode eight the most. Instead of a stupid war, we could have seen a presentation of the demons trying to improve on that execution day to stop angels so that one of demons could have gone away from hell redeemed and able after months of trying. But no, we get a bland fight. The fight was super weak and God Bow which I made easily destroys show. After seeing the sitch for myself, I have no faith that the creators and any other related projects to Hazbin Hotel can ever deliver something great. Season 2 will no doubt go on to be the same thing in terms of quality and lengths. The creators are just very unprofessional, they don't know the craft or finesse that goes into story telling and creation. The entire story as is feels like a first draft and as if they're winging it with each episode, even if they were confined to 8 episodes that was no excuse to be sloppy or have it rushed. They could have introduced less characters, advanced the plot less, and not use the bigger elements of the story in their first season, but its obvious they chose the latter. It would have been better had they created a slice of the story for their first season rather than trying to fit a cake on a small plate. Then also reduced the musicals to 1 per episodes as I bet during the writing process they had to go out of their way just to squeeze in some of them and the structures of the episodes suffered because of that. Actually no musicals at all unless they're for main characters, why on earth did they gave side characters screen time? I don't even know what to make of it all, there was no cohesion or tension anywhere to be found and the story just fell flat. If there's one thing to point out is that very little is actually established, for one let your characters organically exist away from the plot or whatever it is that they do, but that isn't possible is because how fast paced the story is you need time for the foundation and cement to settle in. The animators did an amazing job, but no amount of pretty visuals can salvage a bad story.

This whole time watching that I just couldn’t help but think she didn’t pay much attention to what was going on beyond the surface-level inspirations she could write a RUclips script about. It’s hinted that Angel is deeper than sex jokes in at least Ep3 if not 2, and the show’s also kinda being forced to fit a season’s worth of stuff into 8 episodes so there’s bound to be some pacing issues
Some valid criticism in here but man watching the episodes with a bit more depth would have solved like 80% of the things you claim are wrong with the show. “Inspiration” and “stolen scripts just with the fuck word added” are totally different ideas and I’m pretty sure it’s the former and not the latter as you suggest

I think it's mid personally. There are parts I REALLY like but there are also some really terrible writing choices and plot holes.
You weren't even that scathing in this review, but I understand how rabid the fanbase can be for this series. You make some good points, for the most part Hazbin Hotel is a pretty shallow, very mediocre albeit flashy show with some alright songs. From a writing perspective it suffers greatly, something that definitely feels grazed over in favor for these big dramatic emotional scenes that have no set up and no followup. Generally in song form is how we "know" the character has went through some change. The worldbuilding is very nonsensical and the pacing is far too fast.
The way it handles heavy subject matter that just does seemingly come out of nowhere is poor too. The humor is usually a dud and I dislike how paper thin every character seems to be.
There is many things that could be good in the series, but Hazbin Hotel isn't really interested in telling a great story. It wants just to do enough in terms of jokes, flashy musical numbers and maybe some emotional tear-jerky scenes. It's basically the McDonalds of animation, most people will eat it and think it's decent enough, but it's far from gourmet.

Personally, as someone who loved the pilot but not the show as much, I have to agree with your points on here.
Some of my points on why I am not as crazy about this show as I once was:
-Not loving the angels design being like "pastel colored winged demon" aka: Adam
-some voice actor changes suck ( this isnt like a big gripe but imo i miss cherri bomb and husk's old voice)
- some character designs are just weird looking in a bad design way like Vox looks very similar to Alastor and Lucifer in terms of attire and the tv head thing is just idk not the best
- Plot is kind of turning for the worse so far. Pilot had great ideas, show is not really expanding upon them as we thought which might be bad later on
-Lucifer's personality, in regard to the new episode, kinda threw me off. I definitely think they missed the bar with giving him an iconic personality.

- As I said, she still does not listen to the needs of others and makes them less important.
- She judges their true nature without understanding their situation, like in Cannibal Town when Charlie started a war because Adam wanted to attack and the cannibals sang about how they would eat and kill angels. They were just happy and happy to be the way they are, but Charlie judged them: Ehh that's a little violent can we tone it down? Ughh they are little murder right now. It sounded like she didn't even know they were cannibals like hello Charlie didn't she realize clearly that cannibals would be murderous like this? (sorry but that was judgmental and toxic and selfish of her) she just wanted to direct them to suit her taste even though she is the princess she cannot control their behaviors or minds.
-Moreover, some said that Charlie is giving a second chance, but why didn't she give Lucifer a chance from the beginning? She called him for help just because she needed something and she didn't even want to call him because she thought he didn't want to see her while he was struggling with his depression.
And then she judged him and said nonsense that: Why is Alastor here for me when my own father is not?) Like this was toxic selfish judgmental from her and she didn't give him a chance from the beginning.
Charlia's words about Alastor in contrast to her father Lucifer were unempathetic and over the top.
Even if she didn't know his true motives, she had no right to judge and compare him like that.
- Lucifer wanted to protect her from danger, even if Charlie didn't know it.
- He was struggling with his own problems and depression and it might have been too psychologically taxing to help her.
- Alastor is a manipulator, his help was with a selfish intention, which she didn't notice, but she still knows Alastor's personality a little
- She didn't take into account her father's emotional state and problems, she only focused on her own goals. (only then did she gave a chance to him, but she still judged him and didn't give him a chance at the beggining).
Her words were inappropriate and showed her lack of empathy towards her own family. It was really over the line and out of line.
She almost never apologized only some times but that's all

I loved watching this show. It is also on prime video. It is very funny and entertaining. Just a warning.. there is s*x and nudity.
Ngl animation was solid, storyline in my opinion is so simple and boring, and another factor that brings the rating down are the fans, they meat ride so hard and hype it up so much more than what it is to the point where they just make the show even worse. Solid 6.5/10 in my opinion.
Edit : Not to mention they’re is literally jokes about raping and rumors that the one guy was a racist and killed black kids and men… that whole story should sum up why this show is horrible.

I respect your view but as a Christian I don't see it taking any jabs as Christianity or any religion. Actually it's about 2 Christian values, forgiveness and redemption just from the perspective of the sinner(s) in hell. Thats just my point of view as a Christian fan of the show.

I think one of the main design issues in the show was the demon's masks. Once they came off i started "connecting" and giving a ****** about them on screen.
I appreciate your bravery, the show is 3/4 of the way done, so I think the criticism of you not waiting till it's over to give a review is pretty unfounded, it's had its shot, I'm sure season 2 will probably be greenlit considering how much Prime is promoting the show, but it's had adequate time to set its foundation.
The Hazbin fanbase is one of the more...ahem... active fanbases that I've been in, they're very VERY protective of their IPs, so I applaud you for having the balls to tread those waters.
Personally I hate people who are so obsessed with an IP or franchise that it can do no wrongs in their eyes, but I also hate people who are contrarian for the sake of being contrary to the mass audience so I'll reserve my opinion for when I sit down to watch your video (on the run rn).

So many people have trouble understanding why some people find the Angel Dust stuff tone deaf. I literally had a person try to tell me that death of the author isn't a thing and you have to come in unbiased regardless of if you are uncomfortable. Accused everyone eho disagreed as having a ton of media illiteracy. So I just pointed out that by calling others interpretations "wrong." (Side note: they seemed to have deleted a comment in which they literally said something along the lines of "no your wrong." To someone else.) They were showing their own bias and that you technically cannot remove bias from any opinion piece, that's why its an opinion.

Vivzie likes sharp teeth so she uses them a lot but have you noticed how much detail she puts into other elements of character design? I mean for instance Vox has Wi-Fi signals on his suit and hat. Besides I don't think bright colors are that big of a deal since you get used to them as you watch the show and they can often make a character design much more lively and unique looking :D

I liked watching the show personally but I have to agree, the songs are awesome but the scenes between them made me a bit bored and confused and that is problably mainly because of the fast pacing and the lack of development in characters. So Angel, Husk and Sir Pentious still want to stay in the hotel in the finale but why? There isn't that much of a development to make them want to stay in the hotel. We can see in the pilot that they only stay there for their on purposes but a few episodes later they suddenly like each other and want to stay for each other. When did that happen?? I just hope they improve it when making the second season
I can understand that this show isnt for everyone. Personally i really injoyed the show but that only because i really like the characters. I will say though that 5 and 6 is a massive improvement from the first 4 episodes and that episode 6 does explain heaven alot more and shows that not all angels act like adam. Episode 5 is by far the best episode thought and it not even close. Episode 5 also have much better pacing compared to the rest of the show which even ill admit this show has bad pacing (thats a problem they couldnt really fix with so many characters in a only 8 episode season). There us like a 4-5 month tune skip between episode 4-5 and i was confused as fk and they pass off like it normal and nothing had changed besides the fact the extermination is a month away, but yea this show is definitely a love it or hate it kinda show. The music is honestly what carries the show for me though

I hear what youre saying but angel dust being abused has been a thing since the pilot, we specifically see this with the song "addict" which is actually cannon as they talked about val having trouble counting 3 bills in ep 4 the angel dust thing wasnt random it was planned from the beginning. Not discrediting your opinion just wanted to clear some stuff up (hope this helps)
The problem here is that anyone casually watching won't have seen the pilot because it's not on amazon prime. They'd need to have this prior knowledge from elsewhere.
All the important information, world building and setup for the show should be present WITHIN the show.

I feel a bit bipolar about Hazbin. I went into it blind and liked it a ton but after watching it a lot (as well as Helluva Boss), Hazbin just became very unappealing from a story perspective. I agree that the characters are pretty one-dimensional and that the storytelling is a hot mess of tone deaf + poorly paced + too many characters + WAY too obvious foreshadowing. Viv also has issues with properly demonstrating power dynamics in any show she makes. I still like half the songs and the world that was made but now I am much more a fan of the fan works than Viv's actual creations. I feel like the community brings the show to life far better than Viv does.
Helluva Boss is honestly much better than Hazbin Hotel.

I love Helluva Boss but honestly it's not much better. The story is disjointed and if Bard doesn't like random cursing then that one is even worse. You get introduced to tons of characters that you quickly forget about because they are still gimmicky and only come back half the time for a quick couple lines usually. Not to mention how slowly each season is produced. I do recommend it if Bard is interested in learning more about the Helliverse which has a lot of interesting usage of different theological entities. It's a lot of fun to see how Viv represents the different demons and how she puts a lot of symbolism into character and setting designs.

As someone who grew up with the 2000s era of edgy humor cartoons, it was a breath of fresh air to see this kind of thing again.
But, it was very disappointing to say the least; because the plot pacing needed a lot of polishing. It did seem very undercooked as a work of art.

These two shows also know how to blend together cynical dark comedy with random yet wholesome humor perfectly well without overshadowing one another, in my opinion.

As time went on they merged more into one being. Heck, some people even believe Beelzebub and Asmodeous are also Lucifer. Mythology and religion has no one correct rule.
I did enjoy the show watched the entire 8 episodes but it can see how you can criticise it. I agree if you want to make a show about someone stuck in the porn industry it shouldn’t be a comedy. I agree there’s too many main characters. I think Vivian had some good ideas but she packed too many topics into season one personally my favourite parts involved overlords so I think they should have been the main focus on season one but the main issue with this show is that it’s got so many ideas and things going on it forgets about the hotel and the point of it.

Yeah, I watched this. Ended up not liking it. I think its target audience are edgy 16yo who think smiling characters with sharp teeth are cool or something. Kinda cringy for me tbh but then again, maybe Im just not the target audience.

I don’t know about the lore of this show, but in Christianity Lucifer and Satan are the same dude. Also you can have a character fall into an archetype and explore them later, but they need to do more than just be a gimmick
